Needed to buy a fridge and after a lot of looking around, found these guys up North
    https://www.armaghelectrical.com/
Free delivery, free removal of old appliance, installation if required (at extra charge) and they deliver to Dublin every day including Saturday.
Model picked, cheapest I could get it delivered in Dublin both Online and B&M was €670 (€650 and €20 delivery ).
Up North with these guys, €494 including delivery and took 4 days from ordering.
Choice of paying in Sterling (by credit card or cash) or Euro (COD) but the exchange rate was close to the midpoint for Euro/GBP and with no extra charges, no brainer, paid in Euro.
    Same warranty when registered online.

    The joys of Brexit ;)

What make/model did you buy and did you have to 'request a quote' to get the price first ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,632 ✭✭✭✭okidoki987

You have to email them for their prices, don't see anything wrong with that?
Do your homework and then check their prices, if it's cheaper delivered elsewhere then go there, if not an email has saved you money.
    Simple as.
What make/model did you buy and did you have to 'request a quote' to get the price first ?

    Hotpoint.
I had emailed them with some other makes as well to get quotes and they told me, some of them were discontinued models, something a couple of shops here didn't mention to me.

Don't see why they can't just put their prices on their website.

Don't see why they can't just put their prices on their website.

    No idea.

Just looking at their front page, there's a couple of prices on "smaller" items.

    Bosch WAN28000GB Freestanding Washing Machine.
    Powercity.ie €399 Plus delivery.
Armagh Electrical £299.99 delivered (€353 using last weeks exchange rate)
Price seems to be the same in UK but the free delivery from NI is a bonus.

Use their prices as a bargaining tool with a B&M outlet, at least you know what you can get it for.

Smaller business' often don't have the time or staff to maintain a site with up to date prices etc, not an issue or a mark on their legitimacy, I think

they do price promise according to their website

There's prices on nothing on the website, first sign of a joke of a business.

Back in 2013,I bought a 42" panasonic plasma 3D smart tv with wifi and bluetooth built in from this company for £599 stg..Ordered it online and it was delivered to west cork witin 3 days by fastway couriers for £7.50 stg...A total of €735 at the time.
I had priced it with Expert and D.I.D. and both were €1100 for the same model..It was end of line clearance stock.
I recieved a printed invoice which allowed me to apply for the 5 years warranty and 2 pairs of 3D glasses which were posted from UK.
The TV has been without fault in the 3+ years since purchase.
Have no fears about ordering from these guys, they are very professional and I would highly recommend them.

Its easy enough to display both currencies unless their website software is really restrictive.

dalzells have been around for a long time. Brilliant customer service.

Id say the reason for the no prices on the website is so you have to contact them, meaning they can get your number or email address and follow up and try make a sale.

You really have no idea what you're talking about. My parents used to shop in Dalzells when we lived up north in the 70s. And they were around quite a while even then.

Why would they bombard you trying to make a sale?
That would just lead to bad reviews.
Withhold your number and/or make up a new email address that you'll never use again if you are that paranoid.

I have no connection what so ever with them, other than having bought the tv from them.
I felt compelled to respond to the earlier post which implied they were "a joke of a business".
My experience with them was to the contrary and I just wanted to let others know this.
Although it was my first post,i have been a follower of bargain alerts for quite a while and I can see the value in honest posts that give others correct information as opposed to unjustified opinions which are not based on personal experiences.

My sister bought all her appliances from Dalzells - made a big saving.

I just tried them this week for prices on some bits I need and they were way more expensive - got the stuff in Currys much cheaper.

So just be careful to check prices everywhere

You really have no idea what you're talking about. My parents used to shop in Dalzells when we lived up north in the 70s. And they were around quite a while even then.

In todays modern world having a website with no prices is not a way most people would do business, I don't have time to email, ring, fax, telegraph, get on my hands a knees and beg companies looking for actual prices, if the price isn't on the site I am not bothered entering in to 100 conversations with them to find out.

Don't know why you send 100 conversations with someone?

I emailed them 4 times and got 4 replies.
1st time the item I asked for was discontinued, 2nd time I had to change change to another make as the model I asked for wouldn't fit, 3rd time I would have to wait for it to be ordered in and that would take 4 weeks as it wasn't in stock (since found out it was a discontinued model and had been replaced by an updated model) which they told me and which I ended up buying.
Each time I asked for a price, I got it and nothing else until I sent them another email.
Anyway happy enough with my purchase from them especially as I saved 26% on it.

Appreciate VAT, Duty & better exchange rate explains some of the difference but is this telling us, how much more margin Irish B&M's are taking?

Are they any different price wise to other northern b&ms?
    - if no, then why are you pushing this shop so hard?
    - if yes then it's unfair to go down the Irish b&ms are x & y road which you are now doing as this shop isn't your normal electrical shop

I've no idea but deffo cheaper than Currys in the North as that was really the only other place I looked at up North.
I'm not pushing this shop and I've no idea if it's "normal electrical shop" or not but just passing on a BA alert for anyone that might be interested.
Free delivery was a big plus for me and made a big difference to the price.

I bought a washing machine, double oven and a fridge from them. They'll be delivered to Dublin free of charge next Thursday at my request.

Just as an example, they had the LG GSL545PVYV fridge priced at £899 on their website which was a mistake. It should have been priced at £999. It still would have been cheaper by far than anywhere else I found at £999 but they honored the mistake price of £899 that was on the website.

Power City have it priced at € 1449.95 for example.

When renovating our kitchen we priced the appliances up there. They were good, very good in fact.
However we ended up buying in Soundstore in Waterford. The sales lady there was excellent and matched every price or close to it. For example she knocked almost €450 off the Rangemaster we bought bringing it in line with the price from the North.

Don't be afraid to ask local suppliers there is always room for manoeuvre with price....especially as you are supporting local businesses and jobs.

It's not the Sharp you expect it to be, it's a Slovakian brand who bought the name

I agree. Plus it also suggests that the price is variable & that they will try & sell it at the highest price. It's like the Insurance companies that state that they don't appear on comparison sites. Trade shops like Builder's Merchant do it in store - you don't know the price until you buy it.

Washing machine stopped working over weekend so another journey of going around to B&M shops in Dublin looking for a new one.
Picked out a new one and then went looking for best price.
HN & DID €349, Currys €339, Power City €339 but had a display model reduced to €320, all plus a delivery charge ranging from €15 to €25.
Sent a mail to Dalzells in Armagh again and got mail back with a price of €315 delivered next day with removal of old appliance.
Ordered at 4pm, paid by 5pm and delivered following day at 12.30pm by
same driver as 6 month ago!
    Can't fault them.

Not really, it often doesn't help advertising your price, especially if you're into price matching/bettering, there are also lots of other reasons.

I can vouch for them 100%

I saved money on a Rangemaster cooker I bought recently. Harvey Norman and DID were both €800 euros dearer.

    Free delivery too.

I had to buy a fridge-freezer recently. I did all the online legwork and got a range of prices. Best deal I got, by a long way, was a local company. No delivery charge, same day delivery, even though I was a good distance from them, and removed the old unit. Sometimes the smaller local shops can do a better deal. Big shout out for Redmond Electric in Gorey.

    And it'll be the small local shops who are;
    - collecting Irish vat
    - paying Irish prsi
    - paying Irish corporation tax
    - spending their profits locally
    - employing our friends and neighbours
    - occupying a shop / unit preventing the local town from dying
    - using our friends neighbours who are trades people
    - hiring our kids to do summer work
    Etc etc

Sometimes it's worth spending that extra €5 on a washing machine locally

Id say the margins down here could be less, the cost of running a business down here is crazy! The vat rate which is very high, also doesnt help!

Then again, whats more sexy in a budget? 1% vat cut or 1% income tax cut?

I got all my kitchen appliances in Dalzells, great service at every stage, great pricing, for items they didn't have in stock they offered better models at same price. Surpassed my expectations at every stage.

I must be the only one that couldn't get a good deal out of them.
I was quoted 200£ (with 3 weeks lead time) for a cooker hood priced at 240/250€ in the usual irish websites, also when enquiring regarding collecting the old appliance I was told that the driver would collect it only if it was left outside the premises (!).
In the same quote I was looking at a dyson priced @ 299€ in the irish websites: again they didn't have that model but instead they would have a newer model for 299£
It might be a hit and miss but definitely I wasn't impressed and I ended up getting what I was looking for in powercity, within a couple of days
