This is my main issue with Nova:

Playlist just on now at 7.25pm

-The Farm "Altogether Now".... Great, haven't heard it in an age.

-next an Arctic Monkeys tune I hadn't heard before. Not a fan of them but it's a good tune

    - and then Eagles "Desperado"...... and I switch stations.

Happens all the time that they throw in an overplayed 60s/70s tunes every 3rd song.

There are so many good and great and interesting 'guitar based' or rock or whatever style the station adheres to, but I don't need to hear Hotel California ever again.

All Together Now has actually been played a lot recently on Radio Nova - I heard it twice during this week alone! It would be nice if they played The Groovy Train for a change. The Arctic Monkeys has been getting quite a bit of airplay on weeknights lately. I have not heard Desparado for ages. It's a classic rock station - you should hear the likes of The Eagles.

It's not a classic rock station. It's more like Absolute Radio in the UK; general guitar-driven music.

Just heard a promo for Dee Woods' show where she wishes Bon Jovi's Alec John Such (passed away in June) a happy birthday, talking about him as if he was still alive. Maybe it's a reused clip from a few years ago, but I don't know what to say.

Sarina Bellissimo is on air as I type.

That’s very interesting. She’s not the first to move from Bauer to Nova in the past year. Andy Clarke made the move a few months ago.

Louise Cantillon did a few cover shifts on Nova this year as well.

98FM was owned by Communicorp when Andy Clarke left for Nova.

Are you certain? He was on-air with 98FM as early as January this year. It would have been Bauer then.

I just checked when Bauer came in. You are right. I had thought it had been later for some reason.

Probably shouldn't be surprised but amazed by the coverage and promotion of the Forever Young festival given the artists involved.

Haven't noticed myself but sounds like further softening of the playlist.

All Stood Still, Vienna, If I Was, Dancing with Tears in My Eyes... back around 2013/14 when I was at my Nova-listening peak, they got played a lot on 80s/90s

I think I have heard all of the above alright over the last couple of months!

They Simply need to play more varied tracks from the well known bands they play.

Instead of sweet child play something like mr brownstone instead.

    Doubt it will happen though.

Most radio stations have no balls and just follow the pack.

A friend of a friend has a podcast where he used to play the 5th track from a classic album and he once played Mr. Brownstone as the fifth track from "Appetite for Destruction".

Blue Monday 2018 - Special hourly gig giveaways with lots of highly passionate buzz from all the DJ's.

Blue Monday 2023 - Curry's PC world voucher every two -three hours.

Would hate to admit it but I nearly think Nova's gone even more diluted/mainstream since Hayes was shown the door. It was actually much better from a "niche" point of view when he was in charge.

Is it me or do they hardly play any new music anymore? (Other than on specialist shows like the Guestlist.)

Couldn't agree more , for example, you'd think new order were one hit wonders , true faith is all they ever play ,bring back phantom fm , all that good music with new releases too , as for their DJ'S , IKE Gaughran is as much as I dislike him their best 😩

I flicked over this Sunday evening and heard The Academic's "Anything Could Happen" on Paul McGuinness' show. From 2020. Three years ago. I can't say I've heard any new songs on the station in a while, other than on Kieran's show. Pretty much not heard any post-2020 songs on their mainstream shows.

Oh by the way, what's the difference between Simple Minds and Simply Red?

Answer: Nova never play Simply Red.

That’s a fair point, Steve. On the general mainstream daytime shows, there isn’t really any new music anymore since Hayes was booted. And Kieran, though a great musician and DJ, well….. you’d be lucky if you heard him play something new that wasn’t Irish. Your best bet for that is Greg’s Saturday Soundtrack. In the past few weeks I’ve heard him play new (er) and brand new music from Death Cab for Cutie, Tame Impala, Ian Hunter and Depeche Mode. I’ve recently made a Spotify playlist for Greg’s Saturday show but only with the songs he chooses and not via the Nova playlist- link below. Check it out and enjoy!

Looking at the other thread about "Which DJs Radio Nova Should Sign Up" prompted a few thoughts. One of them is presenters that used to be on Radio Nova.

    So here goes....

Classic Hits - Colm Hayes, Lucy Kennedy, Phil Cawley (also with South East Radio), Ruth Scott, Lisa Gernon, Enda Murphy and Damian Farrelly. The last name might surprise you. He did some holiday cover on the breakfast show, along with a certain P.J. Gallagher who eventually returned to Radio Nova from Classic Hits!

RTE - Paul Moriarity - podcasting coordinator and Louise Heraghty - Continuity announcer and TV Weather presenter

RTE's digital station 2XM - Laura Lee Conboy (very briefly a presenter on Nova)

    Q102 - Johnny Bowe

Sunshine 106.8 - Carol Dooley and the aforementioned Enda Murphy

East Coast FM - Breffni Clack - News Editor

BBC Radio 2 - Louise Molony - producer

Bauer Media Northern Ireland - David Tighe - CEO (former CEO of Radio Nova and stand-in presenter)

Others who may not be involved with regular radio anymore: John Clarke (CharityRadio.ie), Tommy Walsh of the band Pugwash (he used to co-present The Rock Report with Marty Miller), Mike Maloney (regular with Christmas FM), Hugh O'Brien, John Power, aka Noel Dicker (event management), Jack Hyland, aka Moss Breathnach (musician, writer), Sinead Ni Mhordha (deejay), Jason Dee (deejay), Luke O'Faolain (broadcaster and videographer) Steve McQuarrie (last I heard of him was with FM104), Gavin Glass (musician), Ernie Gallagher( voice over artist and freelance presenter), Tim Kelly (voice over artist). Liam Quigley (voice over artist), Gerry Healy (corporate training and freelance presenter), Peter Devlin (Product Manager for VideoElephant), Mark Taffe and John Neary (Marketing Manager of Kefron).

I know I have missed a few. Was there some guy who presented in Irish - Traic Ni Traonain or some name like that?
