[QUOTE=Declan A Walsh;116815917 .I think if Radio Nova concentrated on its core product, i.e. classic rock music, it might actually do alright. That's only my opinion though.[/QUOTE]

You're right Declan but it seems theyre afraid to do this..They want it both ways, but decide to play sh1te music when theres so much better out there...case in point..New Dad and The Clockworks being played everyday on 6 music, two great irish bands.....what do nova play...the above mentioned George and Dermot plus a load of tripe rock that all the other stations play..Meatloaf, Fleetwood Mac, Police etc....Greenday yes..The Clash no...Stranglers yes....SLF no......
Sooner Simon gets his temp licence the better....

Irish media has always feared alternative music especially rock music, “oooh Metallica are playing in Dublin tonight let’s play nothing else matters “ etc

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,962 ✭✭✭Yeah_Right

There definitely seems to be a fear amongst Irish radio stations when it comes to playing hard rock and metal. When I met my wife 10 years ago she was a big RHCP and Foo Fighters fan. She also liked the recent Green Day stuff.

Over the years that we have been together she has become a big fan of Metallica, Volbeat, AC/DC, RATM, Pearl Jam and many more. She sings along to Rammstein, Dropkick Murphys, Rancid and Alice In Chains*. She has said that I have introduced her so much good music. Her friends say the same. They add songs to their playlists that they hear at our BBQs and dinner parties.

My point is, there is a taste and interest out there for this sort of 0music. Why isn't there a radio station catering for it?

*One band I haven't gotten her into (yet) is Tool. No woman is perfect.

To be fair, hard rock and metal are at a somewhat heavier end of the scale of rock - not really classic rock. If you remember, Phantom was licensed for alternative rock and it had shows specialising in hard rock and in heavy metal.

Women don’t dig tool and rush :)
Irish media is corporate, numbers dictate everything and entertainment doesn’t factor in it.
Rte as a state broadcaster should be broader than it is but they’re the most corporate

Last time Metallica were here I thought Marty showed himself up as having not much knowledge of the heavier side of things :)

I dont rate Metallica as a benchmark for metal tbh..you mention "corporate"..they're the most corporate band out there imo....Radio friendly metal....don't get me wrong I would never turn them off but as said above there are other metal bands who are just as popular AND radio friendly but don't get onto nova...AC/D.C. aren't one of them....

I was using them as a lowest common denominator really. Although to hear justice for all or master on the radio would be great . That’s another story though 8 mins of music means no ads

Did nova even acknowledge ghost when they played?

iI'd imagine Miller did from hearing some dad down the creche and ran back to Google them.....

Any idea what I'm doing wrong

I go to listen back to the morning show on the app , I click the 6am - 7am , and the first thing that plays is the 7am news . Am I the only one experiencing this ?

Since the time changed two weeks ago it's been messed up. Think it was the same last year.

Ya after Posting something clicked in my head that was the issue , Ive dm'd them about it

When people say classic rock what exactly do they mean ? seems to me that it goes back to playing the same songs over and over again like before .Does not seem to be a huge market for a lot of the deeper cuts or album tracks from the groups that to me would be classic rock .Always thought that nova and classic hits could be merged with the split of shows thatb would cater for both types so they would get the revenue in .

They know all about it. Think some of the DJs have mentioned it.

PJ & Jim giving away VIP tickets to Guns N' Roses gig next June.

    https://twitter.com/radionova100/status/1381293597593591815

Listen out for one of either Welcome To The Jungle, Paradise City, Sweet Child O' Mine, and that's your cue to enter/win.

I'd rather see George Ezra tbh.....watched New order and Depeche mode last night....pitiful both of them....
Ian Curtis would be embarrassed by their dance renditions of JD tracks...Sumner is woeful....as is Gahan.....

Dee Woods just played Stressed Out by Twenty One Pilots. Seriously?

I heard a Birdy song yesterday or the day before as well. I forget the name.

They seem to play 'Gieeeeants' by Dermot Kennedy or his latest one practically everyday.

None of the above, and George Ezra, belong on that station. I'm sure it is the case for some other artists as well.

Why do you people spend so much time listening to Nova if you think it's so bad ? You have infinite choices for music/radio online,. It's 2021, nobody needs the Bai or Kevin Brannigan to decide what kind of content they listen to. Nova is a product of 1989 regulation, we have all moved on but the civil service haven't.

I turned on the radio this morning, my listening lasted about 30 seconds. How they can leave that sh**e on for 4 hours is beyond me.

I'm enjoying it, yes its not planetrock, but its a hell of a lot better than the previous 2. Music isn't bad bar the few questionable choices.

Yikes.........theres just no comparison.....one is totally professional, proper dj's who dont bang on about their kids and most importantly ..the music.......oh and the other is nova, the polar opposite..:P

    Oh the irony.....

    What does Nova mean?
The name Nova is of Latin origin and means "new". It's also an astronomical term for stars that brighten quickly before fading
