    Hi Op,
I moved your thread from the aquariums sub-forum.

Can you stick up a pic? :)

Hi. Thanks for the adjustment. I couldn't find a proper topic for my add. And how can I stick the picture?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,123 ✭✭✭LCD

There is 2 options to post a photo, add it as a picture or insert

To have it as an attachment use the paperclip symbol while typing your reply (is beside the smiley face).

To insert it as a picture there is an "Insert image" button, yellow box with a grey mountain range.

I think you haven't enough posts to post a pic op (a rule that gets on my nerves... But hey ho), so I'll pm you my email address so you can email pics to me, and I'll post them for you later, if you like :)

    Ya we can do that.

    Here goes...

I'm going for Miniature Pinscher x Chihuahua.
There's certainly Chihuahua in there anyway, to my eye.
There are a couple more pics that I'll post shortly!

    Looks maybe chihuahua x yorkie?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 80 ✭✭b.e.s.s.

As I went for Yorkshire and there was few puppies looking like Yorkshire I can imagine that she has a yorkie in her, but what is the other part? I thought Chihuahua has a short nose and this one is like a ratter or pinscher

He looks a bit like a goat.(in the second picture)

I'd almost agree with that but he looks maybe a bit thick in the legs to be entirely that, bit of Jack Russell in him as well maybe?

The brindle makes me think of a boxer or staffie alright, maybe with some lab?

As soon as I read this I thought American Pitbull Terrier. Then I seen your pic and I thought.....
    American Pitbull Terrier!
Obviously I could be wrong but we had the same dog breed puzzle when our 'staffy' pup grew and grew and grew before it dawned on me what she probably was (you can't ever be 100% sure)
That said, I was talking to a guy who's been big into APBTs for twenty years and he listed off a few possible 3+ dog crossbreeds that might look similar but really the simplest answer is generally the correct one and there is plenty of them around the country

Has the feet of a Staffie and the colouring, as well as how the eyes are set. Do you have another pic of him from the side so I can see the natural way his tail sits? Also weight and age? He is gorgeous, picture of innocence!

Typically that black/tan mix means that there's a whole load of different breeds in there. I'd say there's a good bit of chihuahua and some dachshund and a bit of some kind of wire-haired terrier. No matter what - he's a cute lad!

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 9,790 Mod ✭✭✭✭DBB

Wow hairyslug... What a handsome dog! What height is he? I'm seeing labrador maybe... Possibly even Rottie. The Rottie might bring a slightly Staffie-ish look to him, but I don't think he's particularly Staffie-esque!
What wouldn't surprise me is if he's a bull lurcher. They are very, very common and much prized by a certain section of our community for lamping and coursing (illegally). That's part bull breed, part greyhound or other sighthound, and many of them have some collie or gsd in the background too. The bull breed often masks the typical lightly-built lurcher look too.
So if he's reasonably tall, I'd be thinking bull lurcher.

I'd definitely go with boxer too, and the lab part looks about right. There's an easy test for the lab part - does he walk around with something in his mouth, almost obsessively, when you come home?

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 9,790 Mod ✭✭✭✭DBB

It's gas, how different people see different things, isn't it? :)
I can't see the remotest trace of Yorkie in b.e.s.s's dog!
As for the black and tan, it's a primary colour in MinPins, and there are a LOT of MinPins in the northeast of Ireland, where b.e.s.s is from.
But yes, perhaps a tiny bit too much bone for Chi x MinPin, so there might be something back a generation or two that's a little chunkier than either breed!

Haven't a clue but he is very cute.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,596 ✭✭✭hairyslug

Thanks everyone, he's definitely a staffie, just not sure what the rest of him is, he's 17 weeks, about 45cms tall, can't get a weight. I've attached the best side photo I can get, he's asleep so don't want to disturb him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,277 ✭✭✭aonb

Im with DBB, definately a chihuahua, and the markings look quite like a miniture pinscher too

The other looks like Brindle Staffie, and the rest is made up of total cuteness!

    Lovely dogs :)

I'm seeing Staff x Rhodesian Ridgeback for some reason.

I actually think you might be onto something there. Could be lab, but there's something well built in there.

I'm sticking with bull lurcher with that pic!
How come you're sure of the Staffieness? Did you meet or know his mam?
I have to say hairyslug, if I ever meet you on the street you'd better hold on tight to him, because I'd be away with him the minute you turned your back :D He's absolutely gorgeous :o

Only reason we say staffie is that he was a rescue and his foster family said he was, him and his brother and sister were found in an abandoned house.
He's absolutely fantastic with the kids and a very quick learner.

His legs are quite long could be a bit of lurcher in there - the brindle would come from there too.

    SERIOUSLY gorgeous dog.

I'm going a bit off from everyone else but the body seems a bit long so I'm going daschund/sausage dog Jack Russell.

Depending on whether this guy is full grown or not. He could be a mastiff of some King pressa canario along. Pitbull because it doesn't really a definite look as there mainly mutts staffie also pretty much mutts also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,422 ✭✭✭Ms Doubtfire1

Boxer/lab cross would be my guess probably with staff thrown in a few generations back. Muzzle is too long to be 50% staffie...genetics test if you really want to know..a picture of innocense..until something breaks..:D:D:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,167 ✭✭✭TopTec

I have to go with brindle Staffie/Lab although there looks a touch of either Weimaraner or Ridgeback in there too. great looking fella though.

    Do mine, do mine!

Big black dog obviously has GSD in her. But is there more? Vet thinks maybe collie...

No prizes for answers as she's a big, beautiful dark mystery. :)

P.S. Praying image works as I've not posted a pic before... eep!

Edited to add: massive pic. Will try and re-size... Finally gave up and added link!

    Fab pair!
    GSDXCollie? GSDXBLACK LAB?
The border terrier looks like 100 times more trouble than the big girl :D

Vet reckoned she was a bit light-boned to be 100% shep. She's very straight-backed too. If you look at the KC guidelines she's just within parameters for a female shep though somaybe!

Black lab was the other possibility the vet mentioned! I don't see anything labby about her other than the colour though...

I could maybe see collie - she is a bit smaller than the GSDs we've met out and about!

The border terrier is 1000 times more trouble!

    She's 100% not Belgian Shepherd.
Choc Chip, you know that black GSDs are my specialist subject :D
I don't think she's a full shep, though she really did take a lot of the GSD features, huh? I'd be thinking GSD x collie, a cross I'd love to try for field scentwork, I'd say they'd be cracking dogs!
Love the Border Terrier... There's a wan on here who's supposed to be an expert on them, but I dunno.. :D

She light in bone but I would say she is full GSD. She is lovely! I love your little Brown Terrier too :-)

Could have got hair cut, little dog looks similar to dog from as good as it gets brussels griffon just with haircut.

You don't cut the hair on Belgians or GSDs. Stood together the breeds do not look alike & have different heads. The Malinois does not come in Black but does have a short coat compared to the 3 other varieties.

Borders & Griffons look totally different. Are you sure you are not thinking of the film Something about Mary? Griffons have flat little faces & short little bodies & legs

Not only has that coat not been cut, she has neither the build, skull shape, facial shape, coat type, nor any other features of the Groenendale... The only similarity is the coat colour.
I have kept black GSDs for years now, and many people make your mistake, but if you saw the two breeds side by side, you would see that they're substantially different.
The breed that I see as being physically closest to the Groenendale, and I might get shot for this, is the Rough Collie. Give a Rough Collie a black coat, thin it out a bit, then think about how different a Rough Collie looks to a German Shepherd, and you might get some idea of what I mean!

Edited to add... I was posting as Knine posted... Snap!

I was hoping you might weigh in alright. ;)

It's a cross that makes sense - there are piles of collies around and she's just that bit lighter than your average shepherd. Tbh (completely belying her looks) I have my work cut out motivating her to work. She's the laziest dog in existence. She'd lie sleeping beside me 24 hours a day if I didn't keep inconveniencing her by moving. ;)

And yep (as I was warned by Knine) the border terrier keeps me on my toes!

A Belgian shepherd and mallinois is not the same thing.

Belgian shepherd and German in pic and many people cut there dogs hair in the summer
