Amazon Confirms David E. Kelley Drama Series ‘Trial’ Starring Billy Bob Thornton
Amazon today officially acknowledged Trial, its straight-to-series drama starring Oscar winners Billy Bob Thornton (Fargo) and William Hurt (Broadcast News), along with Olivia Thirlby (Juno), Maria Bello (Prisoners), Molly Parker (House Of Cards) and Sarah Wynter. Trial, which had been on track for a 10-episode order, bypassing the streaming service’s pilot process, was written by David E. Kelley (Ally McBeal) and Jonathan Shapiro (The Practice); executive produced by Kelley, Shapiro and Ross Fineman (Lights Out); and directed by David Semel (Madam Secretary). The series will debut next year.

All 10 episodes are set to premiere exclusively through Amazon Prime Video on October 14th

The first episode is free on YouTube, but Amazon have blocked it here so:

    That's a youtube geoblock workaround.

I'm a couple of episodes in, it is pretty good so far. Good cast too, I'm playing the 'where do I know him/her from?' game every time a new face pops up.

This is a fantastic show, Billy Bob Thornton is amazing. I watched the first 3 episodes last Friday, and then binged the final 5 on Sunday. Great stuff.

Just going to start this now - looks like a great cast.

Going to make sure i watch all episodes in order though. That seems to help....

On episode 6 of this but see why it has been announced as Amazon's most binged show. Excellent cast and gripping story throughout. Really enjoying it and hoping for a season 2.

Anyone else notice the similarity between the intro to this show and boardwalk empire :-)

Really enjoyed the first 3 episodes of this.
The cast is terrific.....bar maybe the shouty black guy who works for the law firm...he is kind of painful.
It does kind of remind me tone wise and acting wise of a John Grisham court room drama from the 90s but spread over a series...

Really enjoyed the show. There is something very real about the interactions between characters.

This is back - incase anyone forgot about and its very good, just watched first two episodes

Season 2 falls apart in the last two episodes. Season 2 was millions over budget, $10million per episode, reshoots, rewrites, re-edits, etc.
I thought this was a lawyer show? Suddenly, Billy Bob is down in Mexico having a shootout with the cartel...

Why is Tobias Funke wearing a terrible wig? Why is Mark Duplass' character so over-the-top ridiculous?

Nowhere near as good as the first season.

Jesus Frank - really slated it, I'll keep watching.

Just watched the first episode of Season 1. It's like Bad Santa, the Lawyer. :)

    Great stuff.

    Season 1 was brilliant.

Season 2, up to EP.5 was pretty good.
    S02EP06-08 were the absolute pits.

How did they fúck it up so badly?

I got a new found respect for Billy Bob after Fargo and watch Goliath and enjoyed Season 1 but the courtroom drama was fairly weak for me and that as well as the poor reviews for S2 meant I haven't bothered with S2.

I’ve never seen a show get so bad so quickly. Episode 7 was an atrocity amd there was no recovering after that. The finale was a complete mess.

Have just watched episode 7 of this. I'm genuinely astounded. How the **** did it get the green light. Just ridiculously different to Season 1 and that's in no way a good thing.

Really lovved Season 1 but I have given up on Season 2, not great at all..a shame.

Season 3 was released on Friday...even after the terrible second season, I decided to give it a go.

Nope, right away something seemed off. They've changed the aspect ratio for the third season. The first two seasons had small black bars at the top and bottom, with the third season the black bars are much bigger. Bad change.

What did you think of it apart from the bars?
The ratings on IMDB are positive.

I'm dubious of those positive reviews, there's plenty of negative ones as well. The new season has a weird Twin Peaks vibe. The writers from the awful second season returned to write all of season 3. The problem with the series is that the creators, David E. Kelley and Jonathan Shapiro, who wrote season 1 together, left after the first season.

Watched first episode of Season 3 last night....was ok, pretty low key and hard to tell whether it gets better or worse from here. Season 2 was shockingly bad, almost like a True Detective about turn in quality....didn't realise that about the creators leaving...makes sense given the poor follow up to a very watchable first series. It was only in the previously on Goliath that I realised quite how awful the second series was.

    . Boom.
I was genuinely surprised when I heard a quip from John Oliver on one of his shows that nobody, nobody, had watched it (season 1). I had really enjoyed it- great characters in a by-the-numbers conspiracy-type courtroom drama. Season 2 started off a bit odd, but just got ludicrous. I'm not sure how I managed to get to the end. Fascination in watching such a promising series sink into dirge, probably. My instinct is too stay well away from series 3, so/but I'll hang back til the end for reviews. I don't hold up much hope for it though.

I’m on episode 3 of season 3 and it’s a weird one with a warlock casino manager and people being drugged But the story is building nicely

Watched another two episodes last night and the storyline is making more sense now thanks to a flashback episode

Season 3 review looks too bizarre, so after the rubbish that was season 2 I'll give it a miss. Was gonna leave it at that, but I see JK Simmons and Druce Dern are signed up for 4th and final season, so I'll wait for final season reviews for that as well.

Just finished watching the 4th and last season of Goliath. It was great with a nice take on America's opioid problem. Nice supporting cast too. JK Simmons and Bruce Dern.

Any additional thoughts on Series 4 of this? I actually enjoyed series 1 and 2 but found 3 really hard going and a little all over the place with the hallucinations and flashbacks, had to revisit it a number of times to finish it as lost interest.

    Similar,....

Series 3 was very tough to watch, after 2 previous brilliant series.

I stopped before the end of ep 1 in series 4 ... I found it too weird to enjoy....
