    what's a dvd player?

€200 for a 32" junk name LCD is not bargain... if it were a branded Ultra HD LED, that would be a bargain.

Less than €200 for a 32" Full HD with a no quibble 3yr warranty is closer to a bargain that you suggest. Plenty of folks out there still watch the odd DVD. Perfect for a bedroom.

Has this got a built in DVD player?
Ideal for the kids playroom if it has. They still love all the Thomas The Tank and Peppa DVDs.

What was terrible about it - apart from Sky code issue?

Ah here jog on, it's a bargain for some, 3 year warranty for starters

    Richersounds

Pay in sterling (6 quid deliver to Ireland).

6 year warranty on alot of their TVs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,271 ✭✭✭TireeTerror

3 year warranty means nothing, all TVs are covered by the Sale Of Goods Act meaning you would typically be covered for up to 6 years. Shops deny it, but with a little perseverance they ALWAYS give in and refund, repair or replace. They have no choice, its the law. Warranties are given in ADDITION to your consumer rights.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,271 ✭✭✭TireeTerror

On the full web version there is no mention of Saorview, it actually says Freeview HD, which is the UK service you're only going to get if you live near the border. I wonder what tuner it actually has, would be good if it had both.

Gonna hijack this thread for a moment if ye don't mind.

If i wanted to buy a TV, can ye guys tell me, how do i know what to look for, in terms of being able to watch .avi, .mp4, .xvid, etc etc files off a USB stick on it?

I'd like to get a cheapo/bargain tv, but it's only use is for playing videos off a memory stick. It'll never be used to watch actual tv, and I don't want to have to buy a PC/Laptop to connect to it.

Does a TV with a built-in media player like that have a name? Like what would it be called on the list of features, does anyone know?

(considering heading to Argos to get one as I've to go to newry next week anyway, so if anyone has an argos-relevant link, that'd be handy).

Sorry for the slight off-topicness. :)

Does this have a satellite tuner? Is a free view tuner the same as a satellite tuner. I have a wire coming directly from the sky dish so this might suit perfectly.

No, a freeview and a saorview tuner require an antenna, quite different from freesat or any other sat tuner.

Ok. So I'd need a set top box in addition.

If you want the freesat channels then yes, otherwise you can get the Saorview channels with a simple antenna, unless you live in the sticks and the tv signal needs boosting.

    Tuner is DVB-T2.

Most TV's for sale in the Irish market are imported from the UK anyway, so mention of Freeview in the blurb is nothing new. Freeview HD will deliver Saorview without issue (even standard Freeview sets produced by established manufacturers have done so this past number of years).

I was just going to post that. Yes, once the tv is Freeview HD it will receive the Saorview channels also.

Where does it say in the sale of goods act that TV's are covered for 6 years.

It doesn't but the statute of limitations is 6 years

It doesn't say that TVs specifically must work for 6 years, it says that goods must be fit for purpose for a reasonable amount of time. Through hundreds of court cases it's fairly well established that 6 years is considered to be the figure to use providing that the product has been looked after properly.

Ive not bought a warranty with anything ever. I've argued numerous times in the past with companies, and my friends, knowing what I'm like, usually drag me into their disputes and every single time without fail after being extremely persistent and sending links to information etc to a company's manager, they give in and either refund, replace or repair.

I was thinking of buying one until I read the poor reviews this brand gets online. It's more than likely a rebaged vestel tv like the vast majority of the budget names and some models from the better brands as well.

Id stick with sony, lg or samsung tbh. Panasonic make very good tvs too but some of their lower end models are also just rebaged vestels.

    Thanks for That

I would be wary of argos stats on specs see here

    Energy efficiency information:
    Energy efficiency rating: A+.
On mode power consumption 31 watts.
Off mode power consumption 31 watts.
    Annual power consumption 45kWh.
    Standby power consumption 45 watts

The Standby Power is greater than the on power and the off power is the same as on power better check on Samsung Site

Saw this in Tesco Buttercrane at the weekend (Tesco sell it too- at the same price). No-one was interested- Sainsburys across the road in The Quays were clearing 48" Samsungs- this LG was very much unloved.

Looks to have a nice panel- but crap connectivity- its not wifi, a single scart and a single HDMI port- are laughable..........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,443 ✭✭✭billbond4

If you want more hdmi ports, just get some.
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00204ENRK/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1472713556&sr=8-2&pi=SX200_QL40&keywords=hdmi+box&dpPl=1&dpID=41lEF4UPcKL&ref=plSrch
I got one of those for my Philips Ltd that only have 2 hdmi.
    Problem solved.

I wouldnt get hung up on not having a built in dvd player tbh. Most tvs that have one built in are low end budget brands. That samsung is a quality product compared to the aldi tv and is a much better buy imo, even if it was for sale for a cheaper price at some stage.

Of course, nobody spotted the Samsung at 229 which would have been a real bargain....
