Hate to open that can of worms, but you're allowing an eleven year old to play GTAV?

Have an oul read of that first.

Editing for the keyboard warrior white knights since OP edited his/her post to show that the 11 year old won't be playing gtav.

no, i wanted that for myself, he's on skyrim, minecraft etc. I stated that as it was the first game, along with batman, our laptop wouldn't play

Ah, right. Misunderstood the way it was phrased.

There are some decent links on this page that'll help you.

Buy a used monitor on Adverts.
These specs should be good for 1920x1080@Medium.
I've prioritised the GPU over CPU, hence why the older Core i3-4160.
In like-for-like tests, Core i3-6100 > i3-4160; however the total platform cost is cheaper & thus allows a better R9 380 graphics card.

    @Digital Solitude
You want to update your template; 1Tb HDD is €48-52 right now.

Might an AMD build be worth it in this case? They may not be great for top of the line performance but they can trundle along for some 1080p gaming.

Annnnd, after some quick googling. No. No it isn't. AMD are so far behind it is scary.

Another option to add to the above is to consider the new pentium line for a CPU. Yes it will bottleneck certain games. It does allow much more upgrade potential in the future though.

This is exactly the build I had spec'd as well. Can get away with a €30 case and PSU though, HDD would be about €50, but overall it shouldn't be much more than €500 if you pick up a 2nd hand monitor on adverts or buy from OCUK's b-grade stock.

OCUK offer free shipping with any RX card so that should trump Mindfactory overall with their €30 shipping and they'd definitely be more of a pain in the ass for returns.

Nothing wrong with the above Haswell i3/380 build either. Would be faster in games but an older platform, I'd personally stick with Skylake and DDR4 at this point but either is a solid option.

Ugh maybe you shoulda had an "oul read first". you seriously just got so triggered you didn't even bother read the post properly.

.... How about this pc building forum thread is kept for helping . And save the knee jerk judgment or any of that kind of bull**** for all the others.

Soz for off topic I was erm triggered....

Will have a look at some more parts myself. But Digitals build is solid for the price.

Sterling you big daisy I have severe PTSD from seeing a gun once, and I'm upset by your use of the term trigger.

I think a mix of mine and Kikis might be a shout, cheaper PSU and case might be able to accommodate a R9 380 into the build

The way it was phrased (before OP edited his first post) it looked like he/she was looking for a PC to let his 11 year old play GTA which is completely irresponsible for a parent to do. I'm sure you'd agree, unless you're an ar*ehole.

Hope your day picks up. Maybe get a nice herbal tea. Go for a walk.

Indeed. I would even go further to say to you OP that you really ought to be encouraging your child to be out and about being social and active rather than encouraging them to rot in front of a computer screen. I see a lot of this now, grown adults overindulging/encouraging their children in gaming. Plus it's invariably fathers who are at it. No offence, but i don't think its great.
I know I'm in the wrong forum to be voicing my opinion on this but my honest view is that gaming is somewhat of an unhealthy pursuit, physically and psychologically.

For stuff like the Batman Arkham games, even the fastest APU is not really up to scratch at all, from either a graphics or processor point of view - and isn't that cheap either.

They're quite decent for people who mostly play stuff like World of Tanks, Counter Strike, Warcraft, League of Legends, and other less demanding titles.

For actual AAA action titles APU's are generally a bad call.

    Wouldn't go that far!

Before the white-knights came along.. (i.e before OP edited his/her post to phrase that he/she wanted to play gta and not the 11 year old and keyboard warriors did their keyboard warrior thing).. OP mentioned that the child will be playing Skyrim (fantasy violence) or Minecraft which I agree are great games to spark a child's imagination.

I'd agree all in moderation. Have a balance.

No its not a wind up. I'm not anti gaming but I feel its not something that should be encouraged in a big way. I think being out, active and social is of much more benefit to a person than gaming, especially for a child.

Personally, I wouldn't have the slightest interest in it and I find it slightly worrying when I see people encouraging their children to get deeper into gaming.

He has no qualms letting an eleven year old play an 18's rated game and therefore should never become a parent.

My post was only to bring attention to the fact that GTAV is not a game for kids, admittedly I could have worded it better as in the original post it looked like the OP was getting it to enable the child to play... and not for him/her.

    Christ... back on topic.

There's a great site called PC Part Picker.

    https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/

There are no Irish/Euro prices unfortunately, but it might be a good gauge of what to expect when getting parts.

Where did I say anything about letting kids play anything? There you go making up stuff again.

what I did say this is a thread by op seeking help to build a budget pc. But please do feel free to start your own thread in the proper forum about the does and don'ts of parenting.

It's implied by attacking my posts that were supposed to give OP more information about the game (that it's not meant to be played by minors), albeit badly worded by me replying to a post that was also admittedly badly worded by the OP.

Whereas it's not an issue for you.

Kind of worrying that it isn't.

Enough with the childish bickering. You are both right.
This isn't the place for this discussion, but it is worth pointing out the 18+ game as advice and leaving it at that.

Now scatter before the fuzz shows up.

    .

You are the Queen of jumping to conclusions. As you have proved again and again in this thread.

You need to worry about yourself and not the op and my perceived lack of issue with anything ... Oh wait.. that's right. That was all mistakes and make believe in your head.. Worrying.

Better you teach your kids not be so presumptuous.

that is.. if you have time with all your Internet police work. Mr right on.

Op if you have any questions about your build. Feel free to ask. Looked at parts K.O did a good job pricing /sourcing. Maybe if you have 10 euro more stick in case.

This is an interesting one 41 euro amazon.

    errr, ok..

    Thanks for all the replies.

Yes I worded the op wrongly and edited it. I have no intention of letting my little boy play gta or taking him to the cinema to watch pulp fiction. He gets to play games in line with basketball, swimming, karate, reading and the maintenance of good school reports. In this respect I control the money and the internet connection of which both may disappear when I leave for work.

I used those two games as I know they didn't work with our current laptop. Gaming rigs on dell are out of my price range and I don't trust the sellers on ebay.

    However, thanks for your concern.

Would those places identified actually build the computer??

    Thanks again.

Mindfactory/parts picker/Amazon don't build the computer for you just send you the parts. It's easy enough and there's loads of youtube vids showing what to do (I recently built my first PC and it's easy enough). If you want it built I think PC Specialist is your best bet.

Not at all, it all just plugs together. You could do it together with your son get him started early.

You need a Philips screwdriver and the hand eye co ordination of a child, nothing complex to the building of a PC. Even the connections are different sizes and shapes to narrow down mix ups

Yes you can play on a HDMI TV.
