So I presumed it was going to just be mens point of views in here. Its good to have a womans voice on stuff, like I personally in my home life always ask my oh if Im buying a new belt since the incident of the rainbow belt :o

Like old BSAs, Chateaubriand and rather decent claret, women are present and influential to some degree in the world of the Gentleman, and as such can and should stick an oar in now-and-then. :D

Easy now....calling them 'girls' could be offensive to some. (Calling them 'good girls' would be grossly offensive to one user and could start a whole new thread:pac:)

Why not? This is an open forum, and as long as posters obey the rules i.e no name calling, derailing etc then what harm is it?

I have friends in there mid 20s who would be offended if I referred to them as women as it makes them feel old :pac:

A lot of interesting talk goes on here and it's nice to see different perspectives, especially if it's an issue that's also being discussed in the Ladies Lounge. Also, I like to visit lots of areas of boards that I've no "right" to be in- the Weddings forum is great Craic and always good for drama.

Indeed. But by all means make with the shteak and spuds. :D

I'm 32 and don't mind being called a "girl" :p I'll own up to doing a bit of lurking around these parts, mostly just to be a "fly on the wall" and to find out what men really think! :)

It's good to get the perspective of the ladies sometimes!

I admire your curiosity. This world tells men from a young age to 'man up' and make sure you fulfill your manly responsibilities and increase your general worthiness. What we really think and feel is often appears invalid.

Have you drawn any conclusions about what men think? Is there anything you've learned about men or have we just confirmed your suspicions?

Is that some Fr. Ted reference? Some other woman went on about having a nice a$$ and I think that too might have been a quote (never watched that show). I consider it a badge of maturity to not know what the young ones are on about but when a man doesn't know what his peers and those older are talking about...

"Lovely girl" or "lovely personality" is code for ugly.

I'd need to do some more lurking :P There was a thread a while ago on what makes a man want to commit to a woman, and that was very insightful. I took notes :) I definitely think that my pre/misconception about men did you all a disservice - you guys are far deeper and more complex than I gave you credit for.

I am sure it wasn't meant like that but this statement is one of the most patronising things I have read on this forum.

So men think too and not just with their penis. What a surprise.

I'm pretty sure she was trying to pay the regular posters a compliment. No need to go looking for offence where there isnt any.

Is 'wow you're not stupid. I'm shocked!!' a compliment in your eyes?

Its always up to you how you choose to read things. Its blatantly obvious that the poster was trying to be nice.

I believe ONW was trying to say something more along the lines of we think occasionally at least somewhat about the same sorts of things women think about.

Pawwed Rig I genuinely didn't mean any offence, but I can see how my comment might have come across as patronizing, especially when it lacks context. So, if I upset you, I'm sorry. I'm relatively new to the whole men scene, having identified as gay for the best part of my adulthood so far, and am only now, having realized that I am not gay, venturing into what is for me, unknown territory. I'm still trying to figure out the intricacies and pitfalls that women who have always identified as straight might already have a handle on, having grown up with an exposure to dating in their teenage years and sort of "living and learning". My first sexual experience with a man was at 26 - so I am catching up! My comment was more a reference to dating and romance than just to men in general. I always had an idea (which I know now to be wrong) that when it came to relationships, women were more difficult and more into "mind games" and that men were easier in the sense that they know what they want, don't get into head games etc. So, therein lies the history behind my post! :) / :(

Hey. Life is complicated. Chatting online doesn't have to be. Don't sweat it. Everybody else got what you meant.

It is interesting to get a different perspective - the debate is livelier than in the Ladies Lounge where people have similar experience and opinions.

    im with Lux,
im kinda sick of the extremes some of the other threads can go into.

    all men are idiots
all women are man hating feminists
all men think women should be in the kitchen
all men should be manly and look like lumber jacks
people who use the term 'real women' or 'real men'

why can we all just get along and lick whipped cream off each other as consenting adults...

I agree (although I'm lactose intolerant so no cream for me ;)).

While some of the topics in this forum are really interesting, I think the standard of "debate" going on leaves a lot to be desired. So many misconceptions and judgement being overused.

Some of the threads (and some of the posters) here would actually make you despair. Theres a definite element of "groupthink" going on.

i think your groupthink is actually just re-reg to be honest.
ive seen it on two threads your posting on now Sarah. and sure wasnt i banned for pointing it out on the two women travel one, with no apology when i was right.. definitively bandwagoning, but I dont think thats gender specific...
