I think though that specific circumstances sometimes have to be taken into account. I felt that a solid, familiar Leicester unit would create enough chances for Vardy against a Hull team missing their keeper and main central defenders whose manager left the club two weeks ago.

On the other hand I thought that a Man City side missing some key players and with others who didn't have a full preseason & who had 1 eye on a European away tie on Tuesday would struggle to be fluid with implementing a new lineup and tactics against a Sunderland side that are much the same as the obdurate wall that Big Sam moulded last year and as a result the game would probably be closer than some would expect.

On the whole I wasn't far wrong, but I don't dispute your assertion that going against the % chances on an ongoing basis is not a good idea.
