Skinny Teas

I wondered if any of you using this thread here would have much information on/experience of using these Skinny teas marketed by a particular brand? What exactly do they do but also, what exactly are they claiming/inferring that they can do? An Irish woman from the blogging industry has become a brand ambassador for a company producing these teas and it seems to have upset a lot of her following. Why does there seem to be such negative tones associated with these teas?

I've seen different teas being described as having all sorts of effects, e.g. matcha is an effective fat burner if taken before exercise.

It isn't. The exercise is the fat burner.

Tea in and of itself isn't calorific. If people are marketing 'skinny teas' as something to help with weight loss, then I'm not surprised there's a bit of a backlash.

Thanks for that Alf veedersane. The blogger being used as their brand ambassador is stating that her role with the brand is to educate people on the latest launches and also, it's about "making supplements sexy" . So these Skinny teas are being placed in some sort of sexy supplements category .I just don't understand that notion and even less so if supposed teas are not even that great overall as you have described above .

Unless it's laced with amphetamines it's not going to help anyone lose weight. Anyone shilling/marketing it for weight loss is full of bs, probably why they're getting a backlash.

the skinny teas' bootea etc are effectively green teas/matcha teas with high caffeine contents and added laxatives for good measure.

my GI specialist and dietitian have both said they can do serious damage to your internal bits.

drink more water and get the same effect.

I don't think there's anything inherently bad with them by any stretch. But they're just types of tea.

fromth e miss skinny tea website https://www.missfitskinnytea.ie/ ; If you are a little worried about how Miss Fit Skinny Tea will affect you, here are some tips.

You will notice you may urinate a couple of times extra per day but this is completely normal.

    Side effects may include:
    Mild Cramping
Increased frequency of visiting the bathroom
    Constipation
    Bloating
    Headaches
These side effects are normal and will not last longer than 2 days. Your body is adjusting to changes so be patient.

    from the BOOTEA website: http://www.bootea.com/pages/frequently-asked-questions

WILL THE TEA AFFECT MY CONTRACEPTIVE PILL?
Our teas may affect the accuracy of the pill. We cannot comment on other forms of contraception and would ask you to consult your doctor, nurse or pharmacist before taking the tea.

All of our other products (excluding our teas) will not affect the accuracy of the pill and are safe to take.

You can always alter the taste of the tea by adding in some natural sweeteners such as honey or lemon, these will not change the overall effects of the tea.

CAN I TAKE BOOTEA PRODUCTS IF I’M CONCEIVING, PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING?
We’re afraid we can’t comment on this conclusively. It’s best to consult consult your doctor, nurse or pharmacist before doing so to be sure.

    from a mayo clinic study:

According to the National Institutes of Health, there’s insufficient evidence that senna (used in Detox or Skinny Tea's) promotes weight loss. But it does irritate the stomach lining to produce a laxative effect and can contribute to stomach discomfort, cramps, and diarrhea. Using it for more than two weeks (as you would following most teatox plans) is discouraged since it can cause abnormal bowel function or changes in electrolyte levels that can lead to heart problems, muscle weakness, liver damage, and other harmful effects. Since our bodies naturally cleanse and purify themselves by processing and eliminating them through sweat, urine, and feces, using laxatives like senna if there’s no real medical need seems like a waste (forgive the pun).

That's interesting as the blogger refuted claims the followers made that the skinny tea could cause cramps, despite the brands own website saying so .

Is rhubarb root a laxative or does it have laxative effects? MST say no but I know a lot of nutritionists would say the contrary

Yes, that Skinny Tea brand are saying that it doesn't have laxative effects but I thought that rhubarb root did.

If you're contemplating heavily marketed teas as some kind of short cut then I am afraid you're probably missing the mark entirely in terms of diet. There are no healthy shorts. Go get some meth if you want to burn extra calories, otherwise you just have to do it the regular way which involves controlling your diet.

The blogger said many times that they alleviate bloating. But that says that bloating is a side effect?
People were getting fairly thick with her alright. For someone who's a fan of the sweaty gym selfie, I don't know where people got the impression she was saying they'd make you thin but I suppose the 'zkinny' in the name isn't great.

rhubarb root is used in chinese medicane as a laxative but i think you need alot of it for it to cause effects

no, Skinny tea say it can have laxative effects, the third point on their FAQ is that there can be a frequency of visits to the bathroom (they dont say you will **** yourself more but thats PR spin)

I have no intention of buying/using/sampling such teas. None whatsoever. My original post above requested any info that people may have on these teas, their own experiences etc as I wanted to get an understanding as to the heavy negative critique that the brand ambassador blogger is receiving for collaborating with the brand. That's all. Brands can make all sorts of statements and their associated blogger ambassaosrs can do exactly the same. I just wanted to hear from people who might know extra than the one dimensional information being provided by advertising campaigns. Sin è! Half raging I asked now!

they cant thats why it says that stuff on their website.

the stuff about the pill is because diarrhoea can affect its absorption, therefore effecting its ability as a contraceptive.

its stupid people who think oh look a magic tea ill look like a Kardashian if i drink this or will lose weight or whatever i want in life.

its tea promoted by stupid people for stupid people.

The blogger states, using capital letters, that this tea "does NOT contain laxatives or create cramps". The brand themselves have been leaving comments on her media page also and have not told her that her statements are then supposedly incorrect. Just seems like an exchange of conflicting messages going on.

theres a difference between something that can have laxative effects, and laxatives.

if you eat buckets of tic tacs you will get the ****s,
if you drink this tea for a few days you will get the ****s.

that doesnt make either of them laxatives, they have laxative effects.

thats why they get away with saying their not a laxative.

i dont know how to screenshot and attach to this but look at the website, it says it right there on the page:

Their ambassador is ill informed of the brand and it's products so as she states that it does not create cramps.

A healthy diet and plenty of exercise commensurate with my lifestyle is more than enough for me. My post was just to gain an insight into the products being promoted and the reaction to the brand ambassador's involvement. (perhaps I should have mentioned that the brand ambassador blogger posts regularly and heavily about healthy eating and fitness and uses the following under many of her diet and fitness posts #strongnotskinny. I think the blogger's association with a "skinny" tea now has people a bit perplexed) .

Utter bull. But people like to buy into this crap.

It's like me getting a bottle of water and calling it skinny water.

No tea makes you lose weight. Caffeine has a miniscule impact on metabolism, purely because it elevates your heart rate.

Yes! I've seen this at the tills in Penneys, cos other water is more fattening

Many of these skinny teas are just laxatives. The main ingredient being senna.
Senna contains many chemicals called sennosides. Sennosides irritate the lining of the bowel, which causes a laxative effect

IIRC they're bad for your gut flora, and your ability to absorb nutrients or something like that. Theres plenty of articles on why they're shi7e.
