Was hoping that the pro would come with a 2TB hard drive.

Very boring press conference so far.

Just checking on Argos for the prices on their 4K HDR televisions. Cheapest is €1,200.

They’re really doing a bad job in trying to tell people why they should buy a new console. Everything seems to be so dependent on buying a 4K TV, so much so that they’re making it sound like there’s no point in getting a PS4 Pro without buying a new television.

That's not what I picked up. He said if you have a 4k TV and if the game I guess has a pro mode you will get 4k gameplay including HDR. If you have a 1080p device the game will give enhanced graphics not available on the standard ps4.

Personally I think most games are not going to be able to do 4k with just twice the power of the current PS4 gpu, although he mentioned it's achievable with optimised algorithms rather than brute force but I still have my doubts.

I will likely stay with a 1080p monitor and buy the Pro if games are supporting enhanced graphics and higher frame rates.

God help me, but I really like the look of this year's CoD.

Also most 4k TV's have desperate input lag except the latest Samsungs. Even the new Sony's are not great unlike their 1080p sets from 2014/2015.

A friend of mine picked me up a Hisense 4K HDR set for less than E400 about two months in London in Argos, everything plays fine with its gaming mode.

Really? Haven't been keeping up with the tech at all, so that wouldn't be too bad.

To be honest I did not really want one, but it was a good deal and he brought it over, its only a 40", I will admit though the wow factor of 4K wears off pretty quickly, although I only have Netflix to go on.

I have a Samsung 4K TV and I still don't know why I'd upgrade. Slightly better graphics while nice and all isn't really enough. In saying that I'm not really sure why I bought a 4K tv in the first place since I've never watched anything in 4K on it.

It actually looks savage visually, but I must admit I got a good laugh at the pitiful applause!

Netflix app at 'end of the year'. PS4 Pro support for CoD IW in November, all pointing to a release before Christmas.

Ugh lets just see the price and specs

Upgrading the original PS4 to be HDR capable is a bit of good news :)

    No sign of Rockstar

HDR being made available on all PS4's next week via a patch, now that is the first interesting item mentioned.

Done a lot of research on this TV and it is getting very good reviews. The 43" one that is £299 in Argos does not support HDR, yet. But Hisense have said they will be rolling out a software update enabling HDR by the end of the year.

I have a samsung 4k tv, does that mean its is HDR ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,365 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

    €399. Tempting.

    November 10.

Well that is easily the worst conference I have ever watched...

Also PS4 Pro November 10th taught it would be released around the same time as VR?... Or maybe they want to sell loads of VR's before they launch it as people that upgrade might not have the money after paying for VR...

Not all 4K sets have HDR yet, depends on your model.

    That was absolutely dreadful.

Dam that was boring. Was not expecting it to be so cheap but dam is it ugly.

Well that press conference didn't convince me to upgrade to the pro anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,096 ✭✭✭Liamario

Pointless upgrade. 4K really isn't that impressive they should be focusing on improving frame rates and consistently hitting 1080p than this 4K nonsense.

Not necessarily. HDR was something Samsung introduced in their top tier sets in 2016. So check which model you have / check your manual. Also, Sony never made it clear if it's HDR10 or Dolby Vision they are supporting as there are currently 2 HDR standards.

If games start coming out with a pro mode that have enhanced graphics and/or higher frame rates I'd be tempted. There are too many PS4 games that can barely handle 1080P@30fps with what I consider medium graphics detail. I don't care about 4K because I don't think the hardware is powerful enough to support it without low graphics settings / slowdown.

Woeful conference. I like techy stuff but listening to that Cerny chap drone on about 4K and HDR was very boring and obviously impossible to see the benefits watching on YT.

Only one VR game shown - I thought this was the machine that was supposed to be powering PSVR - why didn't they show off those games?

The audience was very quiet too I thought.

It's a good price point for anyone without a PS4 but not worth the upgrade in my opinion. 4K is still too young a technology to buy into right now.

Cheaper than expected but its hard to justify rebuying it and a 4K TV then a VR headset if you want to buy it.
Hard to demo the difference too. I was like meh but nobody was watching on a 4k display

thanks.... Its a Samsung UHD and it can play the so called 4K programs that are on netfilx, but I would have no idea if it is HDR, seems Sony are really pushing this HDR thing, cannot see the majority or gamers being interested in this at this moment in time,

If the Scorpio specs match what they are saying then it will blow the ps4 pro away...

A quick google of your exact model number will probably tell you.
