Very impressive for Eddie, Top 20 on GC at Tour of Utah, just behind Vuelta winner Chris Horner and ahead of former Giro winner Cunego.

Just noticed his 18 year-old teammate came 2nd.

Good result for Dunbar and his team. Will be interesting to see how he develops over the next 2-3 years.

The fact he beat Ryan Mullen in the National TT and Mullen put out his best power numbers ever for a 40k TT was astounding for a whippet like him, great potential.

Adrien Costa seems to place high in almost every race he does. Expect he will be a huge name in cycling some day

BTW there is already an eddie Dunbar thread. worth merging mod ?

    Didn't see this anywhere else...

Eddie finished 9th in the World Championship U-23 ITT yesterday.

    That's a seriously impressive performance.

I for one would consider a Dom to Bernal in big WT stage races development.

Be my concern too but he's young and the the start of his career so hopefully he can achieve all he's capable of at Sky and if not he's in the biggest shop window in the sport down the road.

Hopefully the other lads can get sorted now too.

Dunbar has a far more impressive palamares than Deignan had at that age. I wouldn't be too worried about him.

    https://www.teamsky.com/article/eddie-dunbar-joins-team-sky

Dunbar, who is set to make his Team Sky debut on Saturday at Coppa Agostoni, has agreed a deal to the end of the 2019 season.

The Irishman, 22, was contracted to Aqua Blue Sport for the 2018 season, but – following the closure of the team – Aqua Blue and the UCI have granted Dunbar permission to leave his contract early and sign for Team Sky.

Dunbar has certainly caught the eye in 2018, racing to an impressive eighth at both the Tour de Yorkshire and Tour de l’Avenir, and he will hope to carry that form into the Italian Classics, in the colours of Team Sky.

"I’m really grateful for the opportunity I’m getting after the situation I’ve found myself in,” Dunbar told TeamSky.com.

“Sometimes a team folding is the way the sport goes. I just had to be professional about it and understand the situation. Luckily Sky came along and they offered me a block of Italian races which is good preparation for Innsbruck.

“It’s all fallen into place for me - and I can’t wait to get started now.”

Dunbar added: "This is a great opportunity for me to spend the last few weeks of the season with a team I’ll be riding for next year. It will make the transition a lot easier.

"It’s really helpful to have this opportunity to familiarise myself with everything, especially the riders and the staff, ahead of next season.”
    null
Team Principal Sir Dave Brailsford welcomed Dunbar’s arrival, commenting: "Eddie is a talented young rider and we’re delighted he’s agreed to join us.

"Obviously the circumstances, with Aqua Blue folding, aren’t ideal for anyone at the team, or the sport in general. You never like to see teams go through something like that.

"But we’re pleased to be able to offer Eddie an immediate route back in with Team Sky.

“We have been watching him for a while and it’s clear that he has great potential. He particularly impressed at the Tour de Yorkshire and Tour de l’Avenir this year and we hope he can build on those performances with us.

"We’re looking forward to integrating him into the Team during the remainder of 2018, allowing him to hit the ground running in 2019, and hope he can form a part of our next generation as we continue to build for the future.”

Great news for him, hopefully he'll get some good experience and will have some nice offers come the end of the 2019 season.

Delighted for Dunbar that his talent has been recognized, but would worry about the Sky involvement.

With the move, Ireland now has six riders at world tour level (Martin, Roche, Deignan, Bennett, Mullen and Dunbar). That's the most world tour riders we have ever had at once!

Do we really consider Philip to be a world tour rider? He never races.

Has Bennett raced since the Giro?

very strange question. Yes, obviously, he rides with a world tour (ProTour) team.

He has started 4 races (including nationals) but has not finished any of them.
Most recently he was in Canada for the two World Tour races there

It would be great if Dunne got snapped up by a World Tour team as well. I see Larry Warbasse signed for AG2R Mondiale, great bit of news for him.

32 days of racing this year, not a lot by world tour standards but you could hardly say he never races.

78 days of racing in 2017 as well!

Why has Sam Bennett not finished races ...or indeeed entered many races .??

    What happened ?

Sam probably would have performed better than Sagan at the Vuelta and possibly won a stage or 2

I’d say Sam might be parting company with Bora hence the lack of race time. He’s in his final year with them and maybe contract negotiations didn’t go to plan.

I’d expect a lad who won 3 stages at the Giro to be getting plenty of race time. I could understand leaving him out of TDF but expected he’d be back for the Vuelta.

Going back to Eddie that’s a huge move for him and one he fully deserves. Hope he does well

Pity about Sam Bennett and not racing ....petty of Bora if that is the case

Wonder where he could be going

    Sky have no sprinter
    Sunweb seem to be recruting
And UAE have the funds though not the best place with Kristoff there

Its an unusual one for Sam, there have been no public indications regarding illness or injury and he has been on the long list for a lot of races since the Giro and been pulled very late on.

The races he has entered would not have been Sam type finishes so some of the DNF's are not a surprise but not all that helpful when Ackermann has been mopping up wins in Sams absence. I also see Sam's main leadout man Rudi Selig won in his own right in Slovakia today

Procyclingstats is usually reliable regarding contracts for next year and Sam is listed as having renewed for 2019
    https://www.procyclingstats.com/team/bora-hansgrohe-2019

Noticeable too that Ackermann has not been confirmed yet but i imagine that Bora will be keen to get him resigned and will surely promise him a grand tour option next year.

Hopefully Sam gets some form back again and may look to get selected for Turkey in October where he had great success last year.

But lets not get off topic, this is the Eddie Dunbar thread and while Sky wouldn't be my first choice i hope everything goes well for him there and the best thing for him is a solid race program which hopefully he gets. Will the Belgian classics and shorter tours suit him better than the GT's as there is IMO a greater opportunity in the Sky roster for the former.

Thomas and kwiatkowski are normally their guys for the 1 week stage races but they never seem to have anyone who can do much at the spring classics. I know they've had wins in the minor spring races but don't think they've don't much in the likes of Paris roubaix, flanders etc

I hate the word 'hails' as much as I hate the term 'smashing it'.

Unless it's referring to the weather.

    Nice one Eddie, though.

Another fantastic performance from Eddie Dunbar in Italy today in the Memorial Marco Pantani. He clearly had leave to have a go and did so in the latter stages, going clear with Ben Hermans on the final climb. Although caught by the select chasing group he was still able to keep with the likes of Quintana and Nibali in the finale and came home 8th in the select sprint.

I suspect Sky will be pleased to have picked him up....

I cant see a highlight video in English to embed, but it you check the GCN Facebook page there is a summary on there

EDIT: Its on sticky bottle too.... oops

Watched Toscana yesterday while doing a turbo. Amazing performance by Dunbar, if not very un-skybot like going with the attacks. That'll probably be beat out of him.
Childcare arrangements mean probably another session today so hoping his next exploits are up on the player!
