    Good.

    They need hosts with personality.

Off the top of my head and limited knowledge of Irish Chefs... I vote Derry Clarke to be there. Seems right for TV.

Daniel Clifford! Couldn't think of his name. Have seen him on great british menu and Saturday kitchen. Now he's reached the great heights of tv3 ðŸ˜

How did I miss that this was starting???

Caught it on the +1 and recorded it - just watching now.

Who are the two chefs  Never heard of either of 'em!

    Interesting line-up of contestants!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,040 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

    Holy God

Judges laughing (uproariously) on MC???

Has hell frozen over? Are those pigs I see flying past my window?

    This is most unsettling!

My head is absolutely melted watching these two good-humoured, positive, well-wishing judges - when we've had the other miserable pair putting a downer on everyone who turned up in previous series!

    What a turnaround.

Anyone know where it was filmed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,040 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Did the answer sheet for the second test seriously read "palette test"???

(I'm no cook, but yes I'm a bit of a grammar/spelling nazi, and cannot believe that got past the editors!!!)

Apart from the spelling clangers, what a hugely difficult/complex test for them all! Esp poor Oisin, I'm dreading seeing how he copes with it!!!

ETA no idea where that thumbs down in the title line came from!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,040 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Colm O'Gorman is FAR too confident!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,040 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Did Oisin just mutter (very loudly) "BAAASTARD"???

    :D

A warehouse in Dun Laoghaire harbour I believe.

    Yes!
Right now he's looking like a much too obvious winner. Hope a challenger presents themselves next week. I want to see him under some pressure! :)

Just catching up with the repeat now on TV3. Presumably we're going to be having an abortion referendum relatively soon, and assuming Colm O'Gorman will be a prominent spokesperson for the pro-abortion campaign.... Just wondering if either Breda O'Brien or David Quinn were invited to appear (neither of whom are celebrities, but then again, neither is O'Gorman), I'd imagine the pro-choice/abortion campaigners would be up in arms at the thought of them being featured in a programme like this?

Was it celebrity chef or Vincent Browne you were watching?

It doesn't matter. The man is getting media coverage and recognition that will be beneficial to his side come the referendum.

So, a media blackout then, no one who may represent either side of the a possible future campaign should be allowed on TV or other media?

Not necessarily, but I'm wondering about the motives behind O'Gorman being chosen as a participant on this programme.

Colm O Gorman is well known for Amnesty and the Ferns Inquiry being a senator. The abortion referendum wouldn't have crossed my mind. MC is not a media platform to promote/debate a political position on anything so not sure why they would need the likes of Mullen or Quinn to give a balanced view on abortion while prepping the veg.

Get over yourself, there is no conspiracy theory with master chef.

And if your concern is based on giving someone who is pro having access to the media, perhaps you should also ask about Quinn's regular columns in the independent etc.

Hardly comparable with somebody appearing on a TV show.

You can say what you like, but the inclusion of a person who will almost certainly be a major figurehead for the pro-abortion side in an upcoming referendum will do no harm to their "cause".

You are absolutely right, comparing a reality TV show about cooking with a daily column in a national newspaper by the Iona institute is hardly comparable

    Best of luck

Indeed, because David Quinn will hardly be recognisable to the majority of the population while O'Gorman will be a familiar face due to his television appearances on Celebrity Masterchef.

I like the judges, especially Daniel, nice manner about them.

Was surprised Sonia went before Nadia, thought she shaded it.

Yeah, I hate "reality" TV (especially the staged ones), couldn't watch this if the presenters were harsh eyc

Forgot the bloody thing was on Mondays, so only watching back now....

    - euuuwww to tasting raw mince

    - why do people (including, apparently, people of Italian descent) say parmezhan? Doesn't concur with any Italian pronunciation I ever learned....

    - how has that English chef never tasted bacon and cabbage? Seriously? He with 2 michelin stars and all??? I'm calling shenanigans!

    - what's with all the "I'm only on this to learn" malarkey. If you haven't learned before you came on, you'll be out the door surely? It's not a bleeding cookery course.

(God, I'm cranky. And I'm not even half way through!)

OK, so halfway, and no disasters - bar Simon's raw lamb

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,040 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Feck me, I've never heard of half of what yer man is cooking with!

Talk about throwing them in the deep end.

Why did Sonia leave half the ingredients off the plate but offer them to them as they were tasting?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,040 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Oh God, Sonia like a puppy that's just been smacked, and then almost crying

To be fair, there were no complete car crashes there (now if you'd put that plate of scallop-whatsit in front of me and asked me to replicate it.....)

This actually could shape up to be an OK series!

Caught up on the first two shows last night and I'm pleasantly surprised with how good it is. Normally when Irish TV try to do "reality shows" they are a disaster.

I love the two judges, Daniel and Robin. Their interaction with the contestants and each other make good viewing. I thought Robin dish in the palette test was very hard. Fair play to the contestants as they all made a good attempt at it. I thought Nadia would have gone before Sonia though.

Ugh that 'pah-me-shaaaaaaauwn' thing gets on my nerves too HeidiHeidi, someone close to me says it and I want to give them a smack every time!
Everything went down well in the first challenge, I figured Samantha would have some unusual flavours under her belt because of having non-Irish influences growing up but i didn't realise Nadia was from an Italian family too.
Never came across the judges before, their table manners are shockingly bad :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,040 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

    Nobody watching tonight???

I'm just home from work and catching up - looks like proper carcrash potential already :D

Great series so far. Loving Simon Delaney. Lots of swearing from all involved lol

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,040 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Holy God, WHAT has Oisin done with that ostrich :eek:

Simon Delaney is a class act alright :D

Mind you, if you put that lot of ingredients in front of me, I'd swear like a drunken sailor as well!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,040 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Ugh, Colm O'Gorman is to MC what Dr. Eva is to Strictly..... unbearable, smug and really, REALLY irritating

And could someone tell that commentator that Ballantine is whisky - a ballotine is what Oisin cooked (although it looks more like a turd )

The ostrich was completely unrecognisable! Although it wasn't recognisable to any of them before it was cooked either!

Yeah you'd almost think it was the 'real' masterchef. No craic outta him at all. Perfecting michelin star winning dishes at home before the show. Hes the type of person who when at school, came out of an exam saying ' oh I didn't even study, I got everything wrong '....... then gets 100% and smirks!
