They prescribed me this laxative but it hasn't worked, I have also drank quite a lot of prune juice and water but nothing so far. Its quiete painful and i fear the next step is vomiting as some of the food I have eaten is coming up. So AH any tips to get me ****ting?

If you are being serious, go see your GP tomorrow and ask how long should the medication take to work, and if not can they try something else like an enema.
    Source: IBS is a bitch.
Edit: also what Brian said, warm water (sugary) is a good way, plus linseeds on cereal (but drink water after eating them)

You need to go to a doctor.

    Warm sugary water.
It draws moisture from surrounding tissue into bowel which helps loosen everything.

Warm water and keep stirring in sugar until it won't dissolve any more.

Black coffee and a cigarette for breakfast the morning after you drink the suggested bottle of red wine.

+1 on this, most painless way, but not right away.
I was told I had impaction and was given Movicol (or Laxado as its called too) and it took about a week to even start working, but once you are over the worst its really fantastic.

A three week back log (no pun intended) must be very painful.

Ask your pharmacist about stool softeners OP, it might be very dehydrated in your bowel and that might be why it's not moving. If it's not softened it's going to hurt to pass it all.

    Hope you're okay. :(

Are you drinking way more water than normal after taking them? You have to take a lot of water with that Movicol stuff to make it work and not add to the block.
I found that helped me, but it did take about 5 or 6 days to even move anything :(

sugar free chewing gum, it's worse than a dose of salts

Its usually 3 sachets per day for a severe case. Check with your doc. But it will eventually work.

Holy shìt!! (Or not in this case!)

Sounds gross but get Vaseline and a latex glove and grease the hole of yourself. It'll help smooth the way for the imminent delivery.

I would go back to the hospital.
Did they check there wasn't some sort of blockage or twist in your guts?

Not enough water and/or fibre in your diet are the main reasons for it.

Drink lots of water and slowly increase fibre intake as well.

OP get lactulose. You can get it over the counter in the chemist cheaply. It's extremely sickly sweet but it will help.

Bulmers. Works a treat if you drink enough of it.

And though Ive never tried it apparently the effects of Bulmers Pear are supercharged in comparison.

It will, which is why its a course of sachets as opposed to a one off treatment.

Pfft. When I've a flare up I drink 8 a day. Thankfully I've got it mostly under control so no hospital for nearly two years!

You could chance your GP to ask for a fleet enema. Or mirolax. Or even chat to the pharmacist about OTC meds that work from the other side.

The movicol will work though. It's amazing.
