Just in this morning, not sure if it's just this branch or all of them, but blanket discounts of up to 30% on all stock, some sections marked as all stock 30% off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,903 ✭✭✭ablelocks

    Crescent SC, Limerick too

is the 30% off the previous sale prices or off the original price though?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 832 ✭✭✭HamsterFace

    Does it include vinyl?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,802 ✭✭✭the corpo

30% is off all vinyl, seems to be off original prices, not on top of anything already on sale. All t-shirts marked down by 58%, if I remember rightly

How many times are these lads going to close down. Its getting as frequent as a Harvey Norman "sale".

No record shops in Limerick after this.
The charity shops are your new option for cd's. :D

Think this is the 4th closing down sale in that shop: Virgin Megastore, Zavvi & HMV twice?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,893 ✭✭✭The_B_Man

    5th if you count Xtra-Vision.

    Do HMV do Nintendo games?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,318 ✭✭✭dan786

Is this sale on in Xtra-Vision as well?

I know they already got rid of any combined Xtra-Vision/HMV stores.

I assumed xtra vision was completely gone at this stage though?

Hilco never had anything more than short term plans with either of'em really.

3ds only I think. Never saw any Wii U games there.

Was in Liffey Valley at the weekend and picked up a T-shirt for the nephew for his birthday.

Assume they arn't being so gung ho as last time incase they come back from the brink again. Their first time round closing sale was a goldmine for bargains.

Can't say I saw anything in HMV on Saturday that wanted me to open my wallet.

A lot of the vinyl sale is on their website too, not very well organised but decent reductions:

Anything that is already marked on sale >30% stays at that price

Ex-rental games are 3 for €7 - the ones i got were scratch free.

Went last night, picked up a few things for birthdays etc. Lego Dimensions was the big one I was looking for so happy to pick it up for half price (~60 quid) for the little lad. Picked up a few nice DS and PS3 games as well. Nothing great in the PS4 section when I was there. Kinda kicking myself for not picking up the Rare Replay for Xbox1 for a tenner though.

Lots of accessories etc for under a euro. Got two guns for move controllers for 70c a pop. Will be able to play time crisis a bit better now :)

I don't know if HMV is really closing lads.

I was in Liffey Valley yesterday and there is a lot of new release stock there. And 30% off RRP is not a big discount at all.

I think the "store closing" refers to Xtravision stores and they're using HMV to flog all that shyte.

Definitely closing before end of year. I agree that 30% is a shít discount, hopefully there's a lot of the stock left in a few months and we will see better reductions

Dundrum store is suppose to close in the next month or so, but looks like their discounting everything.

I wonder will HMV ever really close. They should call it Zombie HMV.

was in Dundrum store sunday and multi deals are now part of the 30% off - I assume it's the same for all stores

    2 for €20 now €14
    3 for €12 now €8.40
    3 for €10 now €7

    Some decent bargains on vinyl:

    Music from Big Pink - €11.19 - http://www.hmv.ie/Music-from-Big-Pink-The-Band/movies-games-entertainment/pd/61043?path=Basket

Enough Thunder by James Blake €11.19 - http://www.hmv.ie/Enough-Thunder-James-Blake/movies-games-entertainment/pd/110597?path=Category__vinyl__vinyl-sale-classic-albums

Genesis - Selling England by the Pound €10.49: http://www.hmv.ie/Selling-England-By-the-Pound-Genesis/movies-games-entertainment/pd/61069?path=vinyl

You'll get bargains in store that aren't online though. I got 3 new blurays for €7 last week, down from €10 as ablelocks mentioned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,431 ✭✭✭MilesMorales1

HMV has put the discount on blu rays and DVD's to 50%.

They'd have put in for plenty of new releases well in advance, so not surprising they would be still be getting new stock. They have likely already paid for it, or part of the credit agreement with the wholesaler, so need to flog it off to recoup some $$$

Plenty of other forums to discuss the fallout for staff, this is bargain alerts. And as a consumer based forum, don't think it's too outlandish to suggest HMV isn't a massive loss anymore.

I used to buy loads in their DVD deals, but its been a long time since I'd consider going there to buy something specific. Always just an impulse buy every now and then when I'm walking buy.

Online shopping was the behemoth that SO MANY Irish outlets never saw coming, and there was really no excuse.

HMV's problem was not online shopping. It was that demand for their products collapsed.

Ever since the shop in Pavilion sc closed, back when they first closed down, I don't think i have spent a penny in HMV.

Think this is the 4th closing down sale in that shop: Virgin Megastore, Zavvi & HMV twice?

Off all the stores you mentioned Virgin Megastore was the best used to love the one on the quays.

Its a very sad time really. I blame Netfliks and them silly online whatever they are called. Soon you will not be able to buy a physical copy of a DVD or Blu-Ray anywhere :( bar maybe Tesco or the charity shops. I myself like the physical copy and like to be able to read the box, see what extras it has and get a look at it first before deciding if I want to buy or not.

Things change I suppose unfortunately just gota move on and remember the good times when you could enjoy a good DVD or Blu-Ray.

Really don,t know whats wrong with people these days they will come to regret it eventually.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,431 ✭✭✭MilesMorales1

I don't think physical media will completely disappear, it'll just become smaller and more niche, which is fine. I mean bookshops have largely survived the digital age.

I think the best stuff has already been taken in HMV unfortunately.

Reductions in Dundrum are fairly ordinary compared to what's been reported for other stores. I've been keeping an eye on the home audio and they're still only 30% off compared to 50% reported in other stores. I'm in the centre every day and there is a definite Dundrum tax versus say Blanchardstown. Discounts are never as good.

Depends what you're buying. There was a section of blurays away from the main bluray part that were going for €5 and €10 - I got MacBeth and Ghost in the Shell steelbooks for €10 each, 20,000 days on Earth for €5. They had Inside Out for €10 and Wolf Hall for €5 IIRC. More than 50% off the RRP for all of the above.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,226 ✭✭✭Stallingrad

There last night, some really good bargains to be had, came away with three great DVD's for €7.

There was a Sony Ericsson bluetooth car kit listed here at 2.50 in Henry Street, but still priced 10 euro in Dundrum. There may be 30% discount on that in Dundrum.

Very little hardware left in Dundrum, some headphones was about it. Mostly DVD's and Cd's.
