All of series 1 - 7 now on Netflix, in advance of the new mini-series.

Straight to season 4, the Yale years. That was my favourite era for GG.

I only really watched season 1 and 2 before, think I was away for awhile after that and never got back into it. Started from the beginning and half way through season 2 now. I never liked Jess last time and don't really find my opinion changing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,125 ✭✭✭eviltimeban

Agree about Jess, certainly in the earlier seasons. He redeems himself a little in the later season, and there's some verbal sparring between him and Logan.

It picks up from Season 4 when Rory starts Yale - some funny characters.

Just started binging on it a couple of weeks ago. I think I only ever really watched the first couple of seasons and then bits and pieces after that. Halfway through season two now.

Keiko Agena (Lane) must have some powerful portrait in her attic based on that promo video. She's 43 and still looks barely out of her teens.

& i just heard Thanksgiving was in Canada on Mon, i always thought they were'nt far behind, but not in Oct

It's a bit sad that Edward Herrmann is no longer around, but ... they did give him the whole wall. :o

Re watching it an odd time on Netflix - won't have it all watched by the time new episodes are shown.

I wouldn't re watch too many shows but this show I will.

Great to see all the old characters coming back in the new trailer. :)

Can't wait for this, love the new trailer best by far. Going to miss Edward Herrmann in it definitely. I'm on season 3 ep22 now rewatching for the revival.

I watched the whole thing for like 6 weeks beginning to end. Never watched it all before.

4 episodes is kinda just like a tease. Enough to get people invested then there'll be no more. :(

Have binge watched most of the original show. Just finished season 7 episode 4, and for the first time since starting I've found myself with no real desire to watch the next episode. A lot of it's charm has been lost recently.
Season 6 was problematic to be honest, but had enough charm for me to gloss over it. Luke not telling Lorelai about his daughter, and Lorelai's elopement ultimatum and breakup with Luke at the end of season 6 didn't fit right. A lot of what was great in previous seasons seems to irritate now, Kirk in particular is annoying as all hell now.

That might be because Season 7 was written by a different set of writers to the rest of the series. The orginal writers / creators wanted to take a hiatus and write an eighth series but the CW network wouldnt' agree to that and hired other writers to pen series 7. That's why it kind of sucks.

It wasn't just that though. Amy Sherman Palladino (the creator) wasn't happy with what the network wanted, so during season 6 she figuratively set fire to the show. She deliberately made a huge mess during the second half of season 6 in order to ensure her successor had a tough time of it on season 7. The creation of April to cause unrealistic problems for Luke and Lorelai, culminating in the season cliffhanger after the failed ultimatum was an attempt to destroy the show.

It meant that David S. Rosenthal was left with a huge mess to sort out once he took over. That takes up most of the first half of the season to fix but the second half of season 7 is, on the whole, more enjoyable than all the false drama for season 6. Tonally, it does take him a long time to get it right. The dialogue feels too 'try hard' for sometime and I don't know whether it settles or you just get used to it. And Lane's storyline sucks. But it's no where near as bad as it starts out and Rory's
"Mom, you've given me everything I need"
in the last episode is perfect.

Any good? Don't give anything away.

I didn't realise each episode was 90 minutes so didn't see all of Winter as I had to go out.

I felt the first 10/15 minutes were a bit forced/contrived to kind of get everyone back into GG/SH mode after so long, but after that it was really good and it was quite emotional at parts but not in an OTT way.

Hoping I get to finish Winter today as I'm already wishing I was back home watching it.

    Watched it all today! :o

Overall, loved it, can't believe how they set up the sets the exact same way, all the characters were in it, and there were some amazing scenes between Emily, Lorelai, and Rory. For example,
Lorelai calling Emily when she had her epiphany in the wild, and telling the real Richard story. Very emotional. And Rory and Lorelai fighting in the cemetery.

I liked how they showed the struggle Rory is going through, being out of college a long time now and not knowing what to do with her career, definitely more interesting than having everything go super smoothly for her. Although where did she get money for
those endless flights to London?

    Didn't like
Rory and Logan basically having an affair, it ruined his character and hers a bit. And that ending! Assume baby is Logan's and Rory is going to repeat Lorelai's single mother story? Was a bit weird and wasn't sure I was crazy about it, but again better than having her end up 'happily ever after' with a guy.

Also how ridiculously hot are all of Rory's exes, especially Dean! The same can't be said of Luke, who had a toupee glued on for all 4 episodes. :(

All info from the original series. - She's from two very wealthy families. At a bare minimum we know Trix had set up a trust fund of $250k that she'd have gotten at 25. Christopher had always been happy to flash the cash and pay for anything he thought she'd want once he inherited from his grandfather. Richard and Emily would almost certainly set up a very generous trust fund for her too. Money would never be an issue for Rory. (I've only seen Winter, so maybe the later episodes will prove me wrong on that.:D)

There definitely needs to be a spin-off series for the nuns from Ep 4.
Katy Perry: 'She dresses like a hooker but she comes with cash'.

Absolutely loved it! Watched all four back to back last night. I felt it was very well done and very much the appropriate ending to the show.

Definitely some interesting plot choices that I feel may not have worked during the original run, but now that the characters are older and have changed are more believable.
Rory and Logan's affair. Their relationship has always been complicated, and while it's not something that I think 21 year old Rory would have done, I felt it was believable that her at 31/32 being a bit lost in life would get involved in something that probably feels very familiar and loving (if you forget about their partners, which I suppose they were able to do in their London bubble)

Enjoyed the revival, I take it that calling it season 1, the door is open for a season 2? also I have the sudden urge to buy an iPhone, don't know where that is coming from.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,747 ✭✭✭fisgon

    Some random observations....

    - Logan still calls Rory "Ace". Seriously?
    - There is no theme tune (at least by Summer there isn't)
    - Michel!
Finally comes out, after seven seasons pretending to be straight.
    - Game of Thrones references! -
When Lorelai asks Taylor about his "little birds". (Had to edit this, found two more in rapid succession - The White Walker, and "Yes Khaleese"
    - Zack has aged 15 years, Lane hasn't aged at all.
    - Paris is even more unbearable than before.
    - Where did Miss Patty go? She is half her previous self....
    - Multiple Wire references (
"You've got more burners than Omar Little", "5-0, 5-0")
    Brilliant....

Got to say I was really disappointed in it. It started ok but got worse as it went on. My take home from the whole show was that maybe I should love my son a bit less in case he turns into a
    self-entitled prat like Rory.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,585 ✭✭✭✭Lady Chatterton

I watched this over the weekend, it was nice to see the cast again and it's amazing how little they have aged.

Overall, I was left feeling underwhelmed. I would file this re-visited series under 'comfort blanket' watches - something I'll return to some dreary Sunday afternoon when I'm feeling under the weather.

Finished the 4 new episodes last night. Felt a bit underwhelmed.

    Disliked:
    -The small appearance by
Melissa McCarthy (who plays Sookie) didn't even sound like Sookie, it was like one of McCarthy's movie characters.
    -Rory
her storyline was disappointing and I had thought she'd lost some of her endearing qualities in the last 2 seasons of GG but in this one I didn't find her very likeable. Loved her in the first few seasons and it's a shame the way her life has gone. The pregnancy announcement at the very end could only be interesting if there are indeed going to be more episodes.
    -Emily and Lorelai
counselling scenes were so drawn out and boring

    Liked:
The way Stars Hollow hasn't changed much and still has that magical feeling about it. Taylor and Kirk are still a joy to watch.

    Lorelai
and Luke's relationship is solid and it's great to see them so content with each other (most of the time)
Richard's death and funeral scenes were so moving and handled beautifully. I shed a tear or 2.

Loved it, especially the Winter & Fall episodes
Emily's story line was the best, she was always fantastic but love how she evolved. The way they handled Richard's death made me cry too... Lorelai was great too - still having the odd teenage meltdown (after funeral) but she's aged into a mellower and kinder version of herself. Both amazing actresses.

Paris, Kirk, Taylor and Michel should get their own spin-off. They're collectively the best thing about Gilmore Girls. And the
Peter Krause and d'other guy (Jason Ritter?) from Parenthood
    were great in the
    Wild
    scenes.
Dean, Jess and Logan must have spent the past 8 years in the gym, they're all looking seriously buff. And hasn't Jess done good, v sweet to see him being nice to Luke.

Would have liked more Lane and townie scenes, and could have lived without the extended town musical stuff.

Rory was headed that way a long time.... in that scene with
Christopher she was ice-cold. Maybe motherhood will make her less self absorbed and selfish

I've just finished Spring, and it was far better than Winter. It felt like a proper GG episode. Very well written and paced. Interestingly that one was written and directed by Daniel Palladino, while the Winter was written and directed by Amy Sherman-Palladino. Was surprised to see
    Mitchum Huntzberger
! I wonder will he feature again.

You really do miss Edward Hermann. There's just something missing in their house during those scenes, his presence and voice!

Completely agree!! Was waiting to see her the entire (mini!) series and then when she was on screen it didn't feel the same. Was very disappointed over that as she was one of my favourite characters previously.
