Nope. It's conceivable he could make an appearance but he won't be a Defender, I'd say.

I'd say he will have a cameo alright for an episode or two max.

... how are they going to deal with so many characters in a single show?

In the same way as other shows with lots of characters?

Indeed. With roughly 12 hours of airtime, and some of the characters being firmly in the supporting cast category, it shouldn't be a problem.

    It's only 8 episodes/hours.

How many episodes were in that "Sense8" series? That one jumped all over the globe with links between characters. I'm sure Marvel can make it work between Harlem and Hell's Kitchen.

Eight 60 odd minute episodes is plenty of time to get all the main players involved into a story.

Well it doesn't look any worse than Iron Fist, but that's a low bar.

Naw, it actually looks like fun & after the seemingly endless winks and nods to each other's shows I'm glad to see them properly interact. I had heard this is only an 8 episode series, which is also great news. No fat, all narrative, hopefully.

Got to episode three too, it's slow to start if you haven't seen the prior four shows you'll be lost as it jumps right in. Enjoying it so far and I too think I'll get in another one before calling it a night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,501 ✭✭✭✭Slydice

Just through episode 3. Yes, liked that! :)

The story is keeping me interested. Sigourney Weaver is doing well.
That one training scene where she handled Elektra was cool!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 686 ✭✭✭DVD-Lots

Yeah it's a bit diff for me, loved both seasons of Daredevil, Loved JJ, hated Luke Cage and that put me off Iron Fist altogether so didn't watch it, hence I don't really know Danny R but he does seem to be a bit of a self rightious pr1ck so I don't think it really matters. Was able to jump in and accept he is the Golden Child and has a hard fist n stuff....... ;p

    2 episodes in...
Charlie Cox and Kristen Ritter are still the highlights..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,501 ✭✭✭✭Slydice

Ok, episode 4 down. Decent enough so far but it's keeping things tame enough
although we might be about to see a big damn fight with Elektra and the Hand ... I mean like.. I don't think Elektra has been shown capable of taking them all on after Daredevil and Iron Fist took her out in the earlier battle.

:D sounds like Luke Cage is just the right amount of introduction to Iron Fist :D

    That ending......

    I like it. :P

    reminded me of this.

    Finished it. Very meh.
Lost count the amount of seasons The Hand have ruined by being poor villains

I'm 5 in and enjoying it.

I find all these marvel netflix shows start off very slow then pick up 3-4 episodes in.

Great twists and turns episode 6 very unexpected. As I said last night is slow to start but definitely builds up steam, needs more sweet Christmas too. :p

It was alright. Probably my least favourite of all the Netflix marvel shows so far.

They do the comic book thing of making reasonable grounded characters act like assholes so they'll have a fight. Its a real pet peeve of mine.

    Lower than Iron Fist? Really?

    In my opinion it's worth a 7, maybe a 7 and a half out of 10.
My main problem with it is
Madam Gao, in Daredevil she was set up as this big pin that even Fisk was afraid to offend, but in an attempt to make Sirgorney Weavers character, Alexandrea, even bigger they turn Madam Gao into this bumbling henchwoman, and also in Daredevil, she would only speak in Chinese (don't know if it's Cantonese or Mandarin) at first before finding her English tongue, but here despite their being a Nobu Mark ii who only spoke Japanese, Gao sticks to English The diminishment of her character was awful.

    This too shall pass.

I liked Iron Fist. Completely disagreed with the critics on that one.

This was really great stuff. I wish there'd been more episodes. Really surprised they
    took Misty's arm
. I thought the hint around that in Luke Cage was as close as we'd come to that!

Agreed. In spite of yer mans acting, I thought it was a really good first season of Iron Fist!

    I loved JJ saying....

Am I the only one left here who doesn't know karate?
    :D

Really enjoyed that I must say and it was a pay off to the build up of the 4 series.

    Loved all the easter eggs.

Have to say this was "meh" overall. It took some of the weakest stuff from the prior series namely Ironfist, Kun Lun and the wierdly watered down unenigmatic version of The Hand from Iron fists outting and made them the central lynchpins for The Defenders story - which was a big mistake IMO. As a previous poster mentioned they really did a number on Madam Gao's character all for the sake of boosting Sigorney Weavers, and her
Oh so cliched stabbed from behind was so unoriginal it stank!
    .

Some nice scenes here and there but sad to see these series getting weaker as it goes on.

Just finished. I liked it! :)

Overall, I felt they pulled the elements of the other shows together in a way that worked ok. Nothing felt off about how it all fit.

The Punisher trailer post-credits after the last episode was cool.

My (just a) guess as to the overall story:
All Organised by Gao to takeover The Hand

    Thoughts on the characters:
Daredevil and Jessica Jones felt most held back to allow the others develop
Luke Cage got a decent showing
Iron Fist got to develop a bit more. Felt like he came along or maybe grew up a bit more since his first season.
Foggy and Karen didn't get much
Claire held her spot as night nurse well
Misty Knights promotion was cool but it felt like they took from her position a lot in order to allow the main characters use her to move along in the story. The arm was a bit of a shock. I hope she's gonna be getting some kinda cool Power Arm or something.
Colleen got a decent show out of this. Feels like shes on her heros journey and she took step two in this. There's the making of more in her story yet.

    The ending:
I don't know Daredevils story but like.. this looks like it's going to dig into it. With the chaste gone, I'm wondering if his Church is going to have some secret battle force/monks fighting the hand next.

Finally: Agree with earlier sentiment that it needed more: Sweet Christmas! :)

I'm going to agree with the people who said it was very 'meh' and somewhat 'disappointing'.

As expected Matt and Jessica were the standouts and their respective scenes were great, and their performances reminded my why I loved the Daredevil and Jessica Jones series as much as I did. There was great chemistry between Charlie Cox and Krysten Ritter, so the banter between those two was the highlight of The Defenders for me.

Claire as always was great, and I thought Colleen was also noteworthy (she was one of the only characters I liked in Iron Fist). And Stick too of course was perfect in his scenes. Everything else though I just found underwhelming...

I really liked Luke and Misty in the Luke Cage series (which I very much enjoyed, even if it was dragged out for too many episodes), but I think the chemistry was off with the other characters they interacted with in Defenders (except for Claire) and that diluted my liking of them in this series.

We didn't see enough of Foggy, Karen, Trish, or Malcolm, which is fine, as this wasn't their story, but I like them all and would've liked to see more of them.

I'll admit that I only watched half of Iron Fist before giving up, and a lot of that was because of The Hand, which I'll get to in a minute, but I also still haven't warmed to Danny either - I don't dislike him, but he doesn't have the likability that Matt, Jessica, or Luke have as the leads in their own series and that remained true for his role in the Defenders; he was overshadowed by his co-stars here and didn't bring a whole lot to the table, but maybe that's because The Hand have played such a big role in Danny's story until this point. Maybe going forward he can evolve and face some more enjoyable bad guys.

I don't care for the Hand at all, I've never enjoyed them as the villains, and not even Sigourney Weaver and Elektra could inject some life into them here for me, and perhaps that's the biggest issue I had with The Defenders - the Hand just don't do it for me...
