Weather seems to be a scorcher for a race. http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=f1;sess= Although thunder storms are predicted over the weekend.

Five of the best overtakes from Hungary

As the engine is not as important here, we might see a far more competitive RedBull. Ferrari might also be closer, but only if you believe that they have a better chassis then Mercedes. ;)

First session and Rosberg already faster than last years pole time, on super soft. Red Bull seems to be the closest contenders as expected but not as close to really cause headache, for now.
With the Rosberg time, it makes you wonder if the redesign of the cars, to make them quicker is really a good idea, as so far this year, we see a great season, with good races, the only downside is the superiority of the Mercedes. But usually it says that the longer the regulations are stable, the closer the field gets.

First session over, Merc-Ferrari-RB (without supersoft)-McLaren
But Mid-field is again very close together.

A few spins in that session. The rear of the Mclaren looking very unstable. Both Alonso and Button having a spin or two. Hopefully they get it sorted before qualifying. Vettel had a couple of spins as well.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Hamilton was lucky he hit the wall so nicely!

For anyone wondering...he hit the tyre barrier at turn 11 but was able to drive away with minimal damage it seems.

Those kind of accidents are always dodgy, could lead to suspension failure later on. Is there a penalty for replacing suspension? I'd assume not.

There are no penalties for that, else the Sauber two weeks ago would have started in London.

McLarens will get a nosebleed if they stay up there for that long.

Guys on sky moaning about track limits. There are sensors on the track, there's about 20cm marginal area that favours the drivers, big margin but so what, driver triggers the sensor or he doesn't. Simple enough

Very dark clouds behind the Channel 4 team, one hour to go before qualifying.

    This too shall pass.

I'm just sitting down to watch it now, holy smokes those clouds look ominous

And it's raining, however it's still 40 minutes to Q1 so it might dry out before the cars come out.

    This too shall pass.

Charlie Whiting confirmed then if a team breaks the radio rule, it won't be a 10 second penalty. At a minimum it will be a drive through penalty

Wonder will qualifying start behind the safety car

I heard they them say yesterday, that they do have the option to drive through the pitlane and once on pitlane limiter they can get help over radio

Does look like a fair bit of standing water

Helicopter doing a lap of the track to assess the conditions :D

Boat might also be an option

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,977 ✭✭✭TheDoctor

    Not raining, send them out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,469 ✭✭✭✭Ghost Train

Confirmed start in 4 minutes time

With more rain potentially on the way, might be a queue

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,977 ✭✭✭TheDoctor

    Right starting in 4 mins

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,469 ✭✭✭✭Ghost Train

Could lose some of top teams here

    Hamilton shouldn't have backed off

    Mercedes at the back

Big NOPE from everyone, including the race director. Red Flag.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

Red flag. So they'll let the track dry to the point of super soft tyres.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,409 ✭✭✭✭flazio

    If that's the grid. Wow.

    This too shall pass.

    Had to save Mercedes.

Leave that as the grid for tomorrow.

Well, no, they could do qualifying on Sunday morning. That's what they did in Texas last year.

Can they do that if the session has started? Think in Texas it was a case that the session couldn't be held at all on Sat

How do you think your man will do this weekend?

Yea and another question is, how long before they have to stop broadcasting? TV stations will hardly be able to wait all day?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,936 ✭✭✭LEIN

That would be a perfect line up for the race tomorrow if the rain was not to stop.
Mouth watering race it would be.

Looks fine. Send them back out

I just looked at the regulations, and they really don't go in to that much detail. The Stewards will be the ones to decide. See section 12.3: the race director has discretion to change the timetable,
