Painting a log cabin

    Looking for some advice, the company we bought from aren't being the most helpful all they keep saying is 'buy sikkens'.

    So I have a log cabin ordered and coming in the next week or so. I have to treat it and paint it myself, looking ta the options out there it seems to be the done thing to coat in a protective coat of sikkens cetol HLS plus first. Then the paint and then probably another sikkens to protect against the sun light.

    Do I have this right?? Any recommendations for a good quality paint that might give a bit of protection too? Are there alternatives to Sikkens or are they the ones to use? Thanks for your help.

    The cetol hls is the base coat, then you apply cetol filter 7 as topcoat.
    Surely if your buying it new it should be prefinshed?

    I use sikkens on my log cabin. Cetol HLS on first and then Filter 7 on top. Dark oak is a great colour. I actually put 2 coats of the Cetol HLS on first before the Filter 7. Then filter 7 every 4-5yrs. Not cheap but worth it
