what do you think of groups like the EDL

My theory is that because there is a lot of classism in England especially more than anywhere else I know of, it's kind of like where a child is being bullied in school and then the person being bullied tries to bully someone smaller than him.

I think they try and make themselves feel better by picking on people in a worse situation than themselves.

Some people are just drawn to extremism. If the average EDL member was a Muslim, he'd be an ISIS sympathiser.

Finally found a group that would accept them..bout sums it up for me.

    What?

There may be a nominal class system in the UK, but you would never experience snobbery like you do in Ireland.

What that has to do with the EDL though I have no idea. The EDL are just a bunch of dicks that blame "them over there" for their own uselessness.

    A bit like Eirigi.

No snobbery in England, are you kidding? Have you never seen the Tory Party or the House of Lords?

    .

You don't experience it in England because those who see themselves as upper middle and beyond wouldn't be seen dead in a working class area. People don't mix.

Here people mix all the time. Go down to any country local. That may be why you think there are snobs (admittedly D4 areas are exclusive and snobby)

I didn't say there was no snobbery, but Jesus christ, you tell someone from Terenure they live in Dublin 8, or someone from Killiney they actually live in Ballybrack and watch them explode.

I take it you've never drank in the bar in Kiely's in Donnybrook, D4? Most of the folks there from the local council estate. ;)

Yes, and I'm sure there's absolutely no places with similar situations in all of Britain. Come off it.

EDIT: I've been beaten to it, and with copious examples :D

The people who live in the flats wouldn't be regulars and most of the houses in BH are private now and cost a fortune. But as someone else said there would be a level of snobbery in those parts that would be similar to England.

It was all so much better in the glory days of Empire when all the gurriers could be given a British Army uniform and paid to be a racist scumbag while heroically occupying some other (inferior, of course) people's country. Now, all that ugly aggression is kept pent-up back in England - without even the Paddies to walk on these days thanks to their poxy Peace Process.

Oh, and it's so entertaining to find the English victims of the right-wing economic policies imposed by the uber nationalist Tory party are blaming every foreigner that moves for these very profitable (for British businesses) policies. Cringefest. Scapegoats rule!

London and I also lived very shortly in Manchester, it's just something you kind of know living there you can even tell by things like talk shows on the TV its that obvious.

It's all about property prices. In fairness it's not that far off, only a couple of hundred meters.

It does not mean there is more snobbery than in an elitist based society like in the UK.

That's nothing compared to the snobbery I'm talking about, that's the kind of snobbery I was talking about in Ireland it's a different kettle of fish in England.

    That must be your perception.

I've witnessed ten times more snobbery in ten years in Dublin than I did in thirty years in the UK.

To go back to you OP though, the EDL are just racist thugs.

What you are alluding to, is the exact reason why school girls in Dalkey refer to the "knackers" in Sallynoggin etc.

It's making themselves feel more powerful, by putting down others. Usually for no reason other then their own insecurities.

I wouldn't say that either. I was involved with Éirigi at their earliest stages and didn't come across anyone you'd construe as a dope. They certainly had fringe politics but they were also people of ability who played a very pivotal role in SF for a long time. As a project they didn't gain traction for a variety of reasons but they certainly weren't muppets.

They're certainly a contrast to the people in the British street far-right I've come across who are thugs for the most part.

England is an Elitist country the way the working class are treated by upper class and middle class is horrible I'm not saying it's not like that in other places but that it's a lot more so in England than other places.

Just out of curiosity are you British at all? I'm just curious you don't have to answer.

You really do post some rubbish and defend England/UK in every way when ever the opportunity arises.

How you can say there is more snobbery in Ireland compared to UK which has aristocracy, royalty, knighthoods, public schools buried deep into the very fabric of the society is beyond me whilst the best you can come up with about Irish snobbery is people caring about where they live.

Not when I'm white. I am reminded of a quote from Preacher:

"Why is it the greatest champions of the white race always turn out to be the worst examples of it?"

You are confusing "class" with snobbery, they are two different things.

It was interesting to see many Polish on social media sharing EDL/Britain First anti-Muslim posts only to find themselves on the receiving end of the same kind of posts after Brexit. Maybe the poles will now think twice when it comes to supporting these groups because before the Muslim hatred it was the poles themselves being vilified as "immigrant hordes" taking over the place.

    Yes, yes they are.

Going to a public school and having a double barrelled surname, does not make you a snob.

Living in Donnybrook and considering yourself better than someone from Irish town makes you a snob.

Christ, you should listen to my sister in law from Clondalkin lie through her teeth to her lawyer friends about growing up in Monkstown, ducking sickening.
