Next Monday, new Survival show from Ch4:

    http://www.tellymix.co.uk/reality-tv/268392-eden-meet-contestants-channel-4s-new-reality-show.html
Filmed over a year in the remote Scottish Highlands, Eden sees the 23 contestants challenged with building a new life and creating a society from scratch.

From constructing shelter and finding food to making laws and agreeing on rules, together they will decide how they want to live as a community isolated from the rest of the modern world.

Love these types of shows :D

Love these types of shows :D

Hopefully doesn't get cancelled after 3 episodes like the US version (Utopia) did.

The problem with Utopia was that it was shite.

Reminder: Starts tonight at 9pm on Channel 4.

Interesting that the trailer focuses on the positive aspects of the experience (even though showing or foreshadowing the negative is what usually draws people in for a show like this).

Not a bad first episode. The fella making the winter camp cant be more right.A sweat lodge ffs, there in Scotland island,**** can hit the fan very fast there but there acting like its a summer camp.I thought most of them where fools.
They should be stocking up on wood and supplies now instead of doing in the rain and/or wind.
The vets a soft touch aswell, what sort of vet is he,he was upset because a goat died, come on.

Had to laugh when the vegertarian caved in after a few days and then watched them slaughtering the pig.
Going to keep watching it .

Some lovely scenery. The carpenter seems to well grounded and knows what they should be doing. They should be doing at least 8 or 10 hors work a day do its not like they really have anything else to do and they don,t need to work there a*** of. I do agree that they don,t need tea every ten minutes do. Get up have breakfast work.
I suppose the vet was upset that the goat died on his watch he loves animals that why he is a vet so yes that would upset anyone that loves animals. I agree they should be stocking up looks like the next episodes weather is a lot harder.
Who was it that walked of a the end?
They did not slaughter the pig just shot it.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

They shot it and then slit its neck right after to blead the pig .
On the vet, animals die surely hes seen that before and if he cant handle that then hes in the wrong game.
Why dont they make a pin for the goats there didnt seem to be to many of them.
The fella making the Winter camp as only bit of sence imo ,they seem smart people but they think there on holiday. He was the only one making the greenhouse or whatever its called to make the plants grow.
They found fishing gear nets and pots it looked like and they made them in closets WTF.
I think some of them didnt like to work and wanted an excuse to not work or worry about anything for a year.

I thought it was decent, but there setting them selfs up for a massive fail I reckon.
One instance was these 2 women(dont know the names yet) made a tiny hut if you could call it that for wood. They made it out of chicken wire and few bits of timber and had enough wood for about 1 fire maybe for a day. There is 22 of them on the island ,so not sure wet wood is going to warm 22 people.
They said it took massive effort to make aswell, while this fella was in the forest making a winter camp and when he wanted supplys to finesh the camp they voted against him and had sweat lodge instead.
Make hay while the sun shines but there doing yoga on the beach.

    (ignore my name :p)

Reminds me a bit of a BBC show from about 15 years ago called Castaway; but this one is much more young-white-attractive-privileged participants for the most part. No thanks.

I really enjoyed it - it's a bit like the Island, but they obviously need to be more ambitious in what they build and what infrastructure they set up as they'll be there for a year rather than just 21 days (actually Eden covered the first 3 weeks in the 1 episode).

I think it will be really good to see how everything plays out - the democracy won't last too long I reckon, people will clearly splinter off into different groups sooner or later.

Your man Tom is an absolute knobhead...

Anton is my favourite at the moment, I really hope his Winter House is epic.
Think the idea to have Tara as a massage therapist is a great idea - its something the rest of them can all benefit from, as not everyone needs to be manual labouring all the time... Let people play to their strenghts.

I was really let down by this last week. Going by the ads it seemed as though it was going to be another "the island" Bear Grylls style, there's the wilderness here's your knives see ya's in a year kinda thing but no. It's kind of a cross between big brother and the island. Will watch it again next week but I'm thinking that will be the end of it for me.

Tom just typifies everything that's wrong with the world, he's so so narrow minded and petty.

I like Anton too and totally empathise with him, I'd be off doing my own thing too!

I hope Anton is right and when the winter comes his plan works out so I can watch Tom grovel. That guy is a tosser

Respect to the vet,he showed some balls.Anton seems resnable, the honeymoon period is defenitly over now.
When its pissing rain and dark by 4 say a few will be easy to get angry.
Im going to stick with it.

Just watching tonight's episode. I can't believe the guys branching off on their own to build a winter cabin. After all the crap they gave Anton. What a bunch of tossers

Every time that Tom comes on I want to throw something at the TV.

I think James handled the situation quite well TBH.

It was funny seeing them acting hypocritical by secretly building a camp and taking supplies without asking.

Still struggling with their names, seems like they are sticking with the same people and haven't focused on a few of them.

Wasn't enough Anton this week, but I'm enjoying the series overall and it will be interesting to see how things progress going forward.

Tom has a few others catching up with him for the Knobhead of the Year Award - I'm struggling with names, but you know the ones I'm talking about, the meathead misogynistic ones...

Yes, that Glenn lad is especially knobby - from what we've seen so far I think himself and Tom are the worst of the worst. The army guy, at least seemed somewhat redeemable towards the end of the episode.

Anton and Titch (the plumber guy who convinced Tara to do the massage thing last week) seem like the two who have their heads screwed on best and easily two of the most likeable at the moment.

Would be good to see more of everyone though, just to get to know some of them a bit better.

I wish they called out the Army lad on his supposed 'values' when he had been going behind their backs building his own camp and trying to force a few of them to leave.

At least Jenna isn't afraid about standing up for herself.

I must also add I really like Paul McGann as a narrator and they should make better use of him throughout the episode even just to help us with the time frame a bit better - I know the first 2 episodes covered 3 weeks each, but did this episode cover an additional 3 weeks, or was it slightly less this time around?

I honestly wonder how people like that survivor in real life. Conplete inability to talk through things with people and co-operate. Hope they get what's coming to them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

What a bunch of absolute c***s those few guys are - never have I wished so hard a tree to fall on someone on a documentary series as that Tom lad, who is easily the worst of that lot.

Loved Tara's speech (perfect use of the Team America speech), but I'm angry she was pushed out like that. I liked her friendship with Anton and Raphael.

Wasn't expecting this to be the last episode for awhile, but I suppose it makes sense as the first 4 episodes covered March-May, so I'm guessing it'll be late September/early October before the next batch of episodes drop. I'll definitely be tuning in again whenever it is anyway as I love the concept and I really hope we see Tom and his band of b@stards get their comeuppance at some point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,904 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

Heard that Tom has decided to leave Eden in order to participate in the arsehole Olympics. He is expected to sweep the board and win gold in every event.

In all seriousness I have never seen such a detestable knob on any show of this format. Part of me wishes he would make the vet's other half cry, just to watch him get a slap.

Bit of a pain having to wait for more episodes. Will watch it again though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,463 ✭✭✭Kiwi_knock

I think Tara would be a nightmare to live with as she is very uncompromising, but disappointed she left as it meant Tom's plan to force them out is working. For someone who was banging on from the first episode about putting the group first, Tom has turned it into survival of the fittest.

I did figure they would have to take a break at some stage, but four episodes just seems too short. Will definitely watch the next series, looking forward to Raph's words of wisdom.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,463 ✭✭✭Kiwi_knock

Had completely forgotten about this show, turns outs Channel 4 had as well. I would be surprised if Channel 4 did show more episodes, obviously wasn't entertaining. Pretty cruel to keep them there when it wasn't working as a reality experiment.
They survived a year in the wilderness of the Highlands.

Now the remaining cast of a TV show have finally left their remote home – to virtual anonymity.

Instead of being crowned reality TV celebrities and fought over by agents, the 10 who made it through the 12 months have learned that only four episodes have been shown – the last seven months ago.
Intended as a combination of reality TV and sociology experiment, the participants were challenged to create a new model of society. But just as in the Biblical Eden, temptation proved too strong on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula.

With the group torn apart by sexual jealousy, hunger and feuds, more than half the cast quit.

Struggling to live off the land, they resorted to smuggling in junk food and booze.
A Channel 4 spokeswoman confirmed yesterday that Eden had “drawn to a close” and would be aired later, but no date had been confirmed.

I saw the Guardian article version of this story - the publicity shot showed just how reality TV has changed since it's early days - a bunch of PYT's. When the BBC did their year in Scottish Isles Castaway 2000 the inmates were a real mix of types. They looked like a street dropped onto an island, rather than an ad agency's idea of urban types.

It seemed like a very flawed programme from the start, Id like to see it done properly, there are feck all survival shows at the minute, can anyone think of any? Naked and Afraid seems very fake, same for The Wheel. I love the Les Stroud/Ray Mears type ones.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,904 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

Jesus what an anti climax if that's it. I kind of want to see what else happens, that summary makes it sound like everything went mental. Also I have an unfulfilled desire to see that plonker Tom get a slap. Wonder did he ever get one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 981 ✭✭✭Lionbacker

Just in case anyone was interested, this is coming back next Monday night at 10pm to reveal what happened to the remaining members after we last saw them.
They have changed the name to "Eden:Paradise Lost" which I assume means things probably don't turn out to well, as outlined a few posts above.

It will be a concluding five episodes every weeknight next week, all at 10.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

Anton is still the only one worth rooting for as of tonight's episode, and there's still well over half of them who haven't gotten any screen-time at all.

I look forward to seeing how it all plays out over the week - I have a feeling it's going to get pretty crazy very fast.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,716 ✭✭✭✭Earthhorse

Interesting to see that Tom left; he was all talk.

Much as I like Anton I think the talking heads aspect they've added to the show gives you a bit more perspective on opposing points of view.

Really enjoying the first 2 nights. Hardly any girls left, no idea how they'll fill 3 more nights, it must have went proper nuts :D What a mess. Some absolute bellends in there too. Seems the last 4 women must have been absolute rocks to survive in that male dominated atmosphere. Titch comes across as a complete w^nker on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

Some of the excuses a few of them are trying to make during the more recent talking heads are pathetic, especially the ones claiming it's "just a fact" that all men revert to neanderthals and act like pigs when hungry/devoid of female company/left to their own devices - it's sickening to listen to... Not all men are like that, we don't all surrender to a "lads, lads, lads" mentality, so to say it's "human nature" in an attempt to excuse your abhorrent behaviour only makes you appear more of a knobhead.

That said, the first 2 nights have been vastly entertaining, and I'm enjoying the madness of it all.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,752 ✭✭✭johnpatrick81

Exactly, and the fact not all of them went full neanderthal shows that some just decided they wanted to go along with it for the craic. Some of those scenes were hard to watch, yer man talking about one of the girl's cleavage right to her face and trying to force a kiss. I think it was a blessing in disguise for some of these pr!cks that the show got "cancelled".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,257 ✭✭✭BettePorter

The time frame is a little difficult to follow. I mean for instance when the Hunter left ....what was the time frame to when he returned....hours ? Days ? Likewise was he literally hunting for one night before he decided to leave initially ?

Also anton isn't without fault and doesnt help himself but Rob was being a knob trying to rile him.

As an aside ......titch is an almighty tosser

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,463 ✭✭✭Kiwi_knock

Disappointing to see Raph and in particular Anton leave. Glad they destroyed everything before they left.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,752 ✭✭✭johnpatrick81

    <3 the anton/raph bromance!

    Everyone else is absolutely horrid.

Oooooh boo people had nightmares after the dodgy home brew, let's get the ghost out!

Rob and Ollie running Titch close to the Eden's biggest w^nker

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,716 ✭✭✭✭Earthhorse

The main group are so disingenuous; oh the violence was different this time, oh was I the one who led the charge against Anton?, oh was the vote not at 75%? At least Katie seems to admit it with hindsight.

I agree Anton doesn't do himself many favors but overall he is more sinned against than sinning. Stephen came across well this episode.

But how do these people survive in real life? They only ever seen to talk about things when they have reached boiling point; but perhaps the editing is leaving out more reasonable conversations that took place beforehand.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 396 ✭✭murria

As an aside ......titch is an almighty tosser
I thought this too, but in fairness it's heavily edited and I was shocked to hear he voted for Anton to stay.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

So so very happy that Anton and Raph burned everything to the ground as they left. They were both treated like absolute sh*t by the others, Anton especially, and I would've done the exact same thing if I were in the same situation. I really hope they sunk the boat as well after they left. I actually cheered when they decided to burn everything and followed through with it - so justified!

Stephen actually managed to redeem himself quite a bit with his involvement in this particular situation, and he's never been the worst of the c**ts still left in there, but really what a bunch of scumbags the rest of them were.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 207 ✭✭currants

That Rob is a violent sex pest. I felt sorry for Anton but he is quite high maintenance, he was quite childish. Raph had the right idea, finding out the vote wasn't valid he just laughed and said I'm not going back anyway. I cant get over how the women didn't confront the harassment head on. If anyone grabbed me the way Rob did after the humiliating comments I'd have punched him in the nuts. it seems all the strong women left, the doctor was the last decent woman to go. That Oli is a total snake, a real ****bag. the way he forces those smiles when he's being really aggressive makes me fume
