Instabuy. Very decent line up of built in games too.

I love the way Nintendo randomly comes out with **** nobody ever asks for but it instantly goes on the 'instabuy' list :pac:

Will definitely be picking one of these up myself.

    Certified instabuy....

    Looks good.

Wonder what the price will be?

Nevermind, I actually read the article now and see its 50 sterling.

They're the Jekyll & Hyde of the gaming world :D Utterly brilliant at times, yet hopelessly nonsensical at others

The UK version won't come with an AC adaptor, have to get it yourself.

Can't wait to get one. My NES and SN were thrown out in or around the year 2000, hadn't played them since I got a Playstation in 1996. Bit disappointing though that there's no network features. Basic web browsing, trophies and Netflix they'd sell tons more to a whole new generation. The Wii minis lack of internet connectivity really was a missed opportunity for Nintendo tbh.

Hello new media player PC case :)

I wonder what the internals look like.

Good god no. That'd take it out of my interest area, & into all the other "do everything in a box" type things. The fact it's made by Nintendo, & will remain a pure console true to its roots, is more than enough for me. Lovely little surprise this was :)

Wonder if they will have some sort of scanline emulation. unlikely in such a cheap box, but one can dream.

I am super curious as to what the innards are gonna be. Depending on whats in there, might bean awesome little box to hack.

Wasn't the C64 in a joystick the same system on a chip, but was mod'able to take a keyboard, another joystick etc? Hopefully it will be mod'able to allow re-flashing of its ROM for additional/changing games or even allow a cart slot! I might be getting ahead of myself there :)

That C64 stick is very hackable.

Hopefully there's a little SD card, covered in hot glue inside this new NES, just waiting to be replaced...

No Smash TV, Faxanadu or Captain Skyhawk?

    Not for me.

    :pac:

(jk, definitely getting this for the nostalgia hit around Christmas time... :o)

It's gonna outsell the Wii U, isn't it?

In ask honesty that's not a measure of success.
It'll probably outsell the total number of Vita handhelds sold, which makes it all better.

Stupid question, but im assuming if i pre order this now from an english site, it should have no issues working over here right?

No issues, I'm fairly certain they use the same plug in the UK too, but it doesn't ship with a power supple, so that won't come in to play either. You'll be fine!

Just through my wallet and the computer screen and screamed "TAKE MY MONEY" in the office! They make it too easy to buy stuff online, patiently awaiting the 11th now

Yeah, I buy a lot of stuff due to boredom in work. I've spent a fortune on clothes and runners lately. I could have surrounded myself with retro goodness with what I've spent on Nike while bored in here ...

I'll be getting the US version. I can see Nintendo putting the 50hz versions of the games out in PAL regions.

I can see that happening too, under the "it's more authentic because that's how people remember these games", horse**** excuse they used on the Wii/Wii U VC. Don't think I'd be arsed importing one from the states though.

not too familiar with retro gaming, Is there a difference with the 50hz versions?

Smaller screen area & 17% slower than they should be

I wonder what the innards will wind up being.
The Retron 5 is little more than an Android tablet with no screen, and thieved emulators!
You'd hope there'll be some scanline filters and a region select in there for heavens sake.

don't see the reason for the hype over it, at the end of the day it's still just a fancified plug n' play.

Difference is it's got a Nintendo badge though...

That would be ridiculous but I could see it happening.

If someone can hack this I'm definitely buying. Otherwise I'm sticking with my less cool looking but more functional RetroPie.

Unlikely, PAL or NTSC doesn't exist in the HDMI era. One box to rule them all.

It's what they did with a lot of Virtual Console releases!!!

    60Hz is

(well, not necessarily harder, as it's the proper speed, so just less laggy!)

As the good Lord says, they've done it already on the Wii U :(

I'll hold off on jumping in for now. I'll be setting up a retropie SD for my raspberry pi with a view to eventually putting a cab around it. For the time being anyway I can just use that. I'll hold off until Argos/Smyths have a moment of madness and lower the price.

Time for Nintendo to do something like this. The selection of games is totally worth the money and gives non retro collectors like us who arent into emulation a way to relive their early years. I'm looking forward to getting this one...

Not to be pedantic but emulation is exactly what you're paying for (same as downloading these games to your 3DS/Wii-U etc). But I get what you're saying - that list of games along with the plug and play nature of the device makes it very attractive to lots of folks.

If this NES thing makes them a bucket load of money then you'd expect a SNES version at some point - but based on how they price SNES games on the e-shop you'd imagine it would be more expensive again.

I wonder will the scalpers jump all over this like they have with every other popular/limited Nintendo release recently..

Since I have the original NES I don't think I'll bother with this but it looks nice all the same.

Since I have an original NES with pretty much all those games, a Famicom with an everdrive I think I'll be buying two :D

In all seriousness though, I don't usually buy two of something but the boxes are so gorgeous I'd love to have one sealed too.

    Also :
Update: Nintendo got back to us, and if you were hoping to hook your old Power Pad or R.O.B. the Robot into the Classic Mini we've got some bad news. "The new NES Classic Controller has a different connector than the original NES controllers and accessories, so they are not interchangeable," a spokesperson tells us. So much for that idea.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,679 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

I don't think anyone, seeing the connectors, thought that old accessories were unable, they've been upfront that this will use Wii style controllers, that plug into the Wiimote.
As for updates, I don't think anyone thought this was going to be updated with new titles.
