Good laptop for travelling while remote working?

    I've recently started a new remote-working job and intend to do some travelling while it affords me the opportunity to do so. My current laptop is on the blink, so I've decided it's time to change to a more travel-friendly option.

    I'll be running Ubuntu (or similar), and the computing/graphics capabilites do not need to be huge, as all I'll be doing is text-editing with vim and running some fairly simple perl scripts on these text files, reading pdfs, and using basic internet. So pretty much every laptop should be fine in that regard.

    The awkward bit, I think, is that I'm looking for something light, portable, durable, cheapish.. and unfortunately, as I'll be editing a lot of documents, I'd like to easily be able to read and compare pdfs/text files, and I'd rather a full sized-keyboard.. Is having a separate keyboard to carry around a stupid idea? Or even a separate monitor? I'm not sure exactly what the best set-up is, so I'm looking to you for inspiration :P

    Suggestions/advice welcome!
