The list of celebrity deaths in 2016 is growing daily. On the thread of Caroline Ahernes death someone asked is this year cursed?

Most of them famous people were old like

Is it not to be expected a bit??

    No. Curses aren't real.

It's going to get worse and worse as the years go by. Megastars in the 60's, 70's, 80's are starting to get on a bit now so it's only natural that it happens.

I'm not looking forward to 2076 when Keith Richards finally kicks the bucket :(

Sad, knew Caroline Aherne was fighting cancer as she had time off from Gogglebox.
    RIP.

Who would have cursed it though?

I have heard about people getting cursed. Football fields getting cursed. Even gypsy caravans getting cursed.
But never heard of a year getting cursed.

Or 2324 when Cher finally expires. Although I've seen the future and according to it, by then they'll both be heads in jars. And a pizza delivery boy will save the earth a number of times
Rip Caroline Aherne I, liked her a lot.

It would help if there wasn't a threadload of insincerity posted every time any celebrity of any level died.

No offense to the woman that just died but it isn't as if people on here were talking about her all the time/at all up until her RIP thread appeared. Empty sentiment.

There seems to be a lot more....indulgence in grief though, possibly prompted by social media. I have seen people I know wail and mourn celeb deaths when they had never even mentioned previously names. One friend who wasn't even into grunge was almost overcome by Scott Weilands passing, I think Alan Rickman may have passed and he suddenly became some icon of film.

For all that, Caroline Aherne was very funny.

Hopefully the cult of celebrity will die. I morn non of their deaths.

Sure they entertained me in some way but they never touched my life.

The current thread about her in AH is frankly sickening.

It's not so much that more celebrities are dying, we just have so many more celebrities than we ever did. Television created more than ever before and the explosion in channels meant finding more talent to fill them. I wonder how big the obituary file is getting at the BBC?

I've been amazed by the social grief people seem to suffer these days, Princess Diana was one of the first I saw of just utter madness. Never understood it, never will.

Was she even that famous? I had to google her name. I imagine a fair few people in that thread had to do likewise.

If you didn't watch the BBC over the past couple of decades you'd have no idea who she was.

You have to be kidding - more people are refugees now than at any time during the 2nd world war, there's been hundreds of them drowning in the mediterranean, who knows how many thousand killed, maimed and tortured in war-torn countries, and you wonder if the year is cursed because a few celebrities have kicked the bucket? Wow.

No there has been a noticeable higher number of high profile deaths than average this year - some just being due to age, or not being terribly old but their lifestyles accelerated their demise. A few early deaths though - Prince was a shocker. Not that I think it's a curse.

    Famous people die every year,
At lot of singers from the 70, 80s are now 60 plus ,so it makes sense
we will see alot of pop singers pass away in the next 10 years.
Caroline Aherne was very funny but unless you watched alot of comedy shows on bbc
you may have no idea who she was .

No, she'll be grand... She bought magic fish in the English Market when she was in Cork and now she is immortal and can turn invisible when no one is looking

That's what the main stream media would want you to believe... Google "Norman Wisdom + illuminati + 2010 secret olympics + sacrifice of Princess Diana + blood chapel under BBC + Paul is dead" to get the real story... #sheeple

With two celebrity deaths today alone, I think it's worth asking this question again.

Apparently the celebrities never took their caps and hats off when a gypsy funeral was passing and they haven't won Sam since

I'm going to take a chance here and say more than whatever two "celebs" your referring to have died.
People die every day, lots of them. Its just another day.

Celebs are just people who walk, talk and shiite same as everyone else, nothing special about them and their deaths signify nothing more than the death of any other human, actually I could argue they are less important than most but couldn't be bothered.

It sickens the hell out of me, people see Wayne Rooney earring few hindered sterling a week as acceptable yet think consultants who actually save people's lives are overpaid at £120k a year. The whole celeb culture is sick, they're nobodies who in general contribute nothing to society, there are scientists who invent cures for diseases that prevent suffering and millions of deaths and their names are unknown, but half the country are drooling over some slapper in "the house" whose flashing her tiits at the cameras.

It's all ****ed up and backwards, the general population are empty headed idiots who think two celebs dieing in a day means the year is cursed :(

Yes, It certainly seems to be.

...and with two months to go, God knows what's goin to happen next :(

That's because Keith Richards can't be killed by conventional methods(I'm aware it's meant to be weapons, but I thought methods sounded better).

Anyway, nope 2016 is not cursed. Every year seems to have it's share of misfortune. I'm sure 2017 will be just as bad.

People may remember the Kevin Costner movie Field of Dreams.

It was based on the WP Kinsella novel Shoeless Joe.

In 1985 Kinsella, who is another victim of the 2016 celebrity cull, also wrote a less well-known short story named Last Pennant Before Armageddon.

The tale revolves around the manager of the Chicago Cubs, a baseball team that last won the World Series in 1908. His only ambition in life is to manage a team to a title. However, he is made aware that if the Chicago Cubs do win the league title the world will end.

In 2016 the Chicago Cubs won the World Series for the first time in 108 years. :(
