Kind of weird, not to mention extremely stupid, to hate an entire nation. Also, I'm a quarter English, so... no.

They're not really British, it's more of a shepherds colony. Strange bunch.

No, I like the British, including the English. I do have an English friend who completely denies our history and continues to include us as "British" though, that really, really annoys me.

Its so stupid to hate everyone who comes from Britain due to policies their government enforced over a 100 years ago

Piers Morgan is half Irish believe it or not. His father is from Offaly.

How could you hate a nation of people, it's an absurd question.

No, I just cannot see the point of hating people for what their ancestors did years ago. In fact I would have more regard for the British than for some other nationalities.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,799 ✭✭✭✭Akrasia

first, I'd like to say that some of my best friends are british, BUT....

Not at all. I could never hate a nation of people. Any nation on the planet has people just like me.. Why would I hate people I don't personally know? It's totally absurd.

F*cking Brits. Giving me a job and a house and a life; I'll never forgive them. Bastards to a man.

...."There are four kinds of people in the British Isles. First are the Scots, who keep the Sabbath and anything else they can get their hands on. Next are the Welsh, who pray on their knees and on their neighbors. Then there are the Irish, who don't know what they want, but they'll fight anyone for it. and last are the English, who consider themselves self made men, which relieves the Almighty of a terrible responsibility."

I don't think of "The British" its more the english, scots, etc

Insofar as one is minded to assign traits to entire nationalities, i find the english an overbearing lot but they are much to be preferred as a rule to roscommon men imo

It's a difficult question to answer. No I would not put it as hating the British. More a sense of a war wound. When I see Britain I see Cromwell, Queen Elisabeth the first, Admiral Nelson & Lloyd George.

Hate? No. That's a harsh word.

    Strongly dislike? No. Why?

    Because it's ****ing 2016.

That's the case since we had peace but before that it was very different and the Brits were not fans of us. We renounced the claim to Northern Ireland and before that we were neutral when they fought for survival against the Nazis.

Why do so many Irish people think the entire populace of the island across the water have an accent that's somewhere between Barking and Basildon? Do people talk like that in Sheffield or Cornwall, go just an hour outside London and the accent changes.

On the thread topic, I've no problem with England, Scotland or Wales but I have an antipathy towards Britishness in general, Unionism, their Monarchy, their Army, following the Yanks in imperial wars etc, etc, I wouldn't mind seeing the U.K break up so this stuff diminishes.

    That's not true!!!

English people love the Irish! They cheer for us in everything & they haven't a clue that Irish people dislike them

Unionists are British and they don't like us at all. Thankfully the war is over and relations are far better than ever.

It's only those odd Irish people with their inferiority complex that really goes on like this. The English in my experience like the Irish but really doesn't waste too much of their time wasting their life on worrying about the Irish.

Some Irish really spend too much time going on about the English when the majority of English don't know or don't care about what the Irish think.

The inhabitants of the island of Britain - I don't dislike them at all. I quite like many of them, in fact.

Arrogant, smug, chauvinistic, union jack waving British-nationalist types - can't stand them.

They wouldn't like Patrick Pearce, James Connelly, Michael Collins, DeValera incase your not aware these names are notorious in Britain for being traitors and killing British civilians. Hardly expecting the Brits to be sweet talking James Connelly. Oh what a wonderful man he is someone who hated the British establishment. Britain is a monarchy and Connelly wanted to bring Republicanism across the Isles. British people respect their Queen so he was an attack on their beloved monarchy.
