    Prime Day

so sign up for the trial and the bargains will be only mighty*

    *may not be true

last year iirc was only ok, but that was the first prime day.

edit : for Irish customers, as far as i know prime membership is a waste, so if you do sign up for the trial, make sure you cancel membership or you will get charged

It's handy enough with Parcel motel. I only started my trial a week or two ago and it's v handy. They even extended it for another free month as one of mt orders went missing! But yea, most of features can't be used..but the delivery is the main attraction if you order a fair bit.

Ive prime membership, its very handy for the prime video via vpn and free delivery via parcel motel.

I forgot to cancel after signing up last year but got a full refund when I cancelled in April this year, just incase anyone forgets, they do a full refund

The problem I found with Prime and parcel motel is that they split up the packages even more than with the super saver. I ordered 7 things or so and received them in 3 shipments. So it cost me 3x the parcel motel fee for one order: 11.85€. One parcel just contained some bungee rope . It was an add-on item, pm charged me more than it was worth. With super saver I've never had more than 2 shipments for one order.

And when you're on prime you can not choose super saver at all. Unless you make a second account or something.

If I had the option to choose to receive guaranteed only one package per order I'd be much more interested in prime. Because it would save cost with parcel motel, not add to it.

Hola allows unknown third parties to use some of your bandwidth so you might want to do some research before using it.

Have my trial subscription primed and ready to do.

Amazon fire stick for £20, could be a good one. I have a 'smart' tv but all it does is netflix, it's about as smart as microwave. I believe kodi works on it, so I think I'll get one.
Anyone got views on Chromecast vs Fire stick?

I've had both and for me the Fire Stick is the better option but that was mostly because I wanted to use Kodi. If that's what you want it for too then that's the one to get, casting from Kodi requires you to download a script and then place it within the Kodi files but even then it's still unreliable because sometimes the Chromecast will say "video file not supported". I ended up selling my Chromecast and I haven't looked back.
The remote for the FS is so much easier to use them having to navigate on your phone and by having the stick there dedicated to running the app it saves your phone's battery too.

Performance on the stick is good too and having other apps like Mobdro, Showbox, Netflix & YouTube (you can still cast YouTube from your phone to the stick too) on it makes it perfect for all media.

Cool, I'll be installing kodi and good to know that mobdro works on it too. Definitely getting one at £19.99

Wont work for me for some reason, something about the payment method, tried both a Revolut card and my bank card. Just refuses to accept the code.

Do you need the power cable for the Fire TV stick or is it just a recommended add on?

Edit: it comes with a longer USB cable and USB charger.

Only buy the above if you want a neater cable for the TVs usb port.

Just went through the list, and nothing. There are some PCs up there, but with CPUs 2 gens old. If they drop in price sufficiently it might be worth it just for the parts.

why is it that when I put the Fire TV stick in my basket it's 19.99 but then changes to GBP34.99 when I go to check out?

You do have Prime on your account?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,350 ✭✭✭Cortina_MK_IV

Also is your address UK? Mine was doing that but I "think" it was at the point I opted to "use this address" (Parcel Motel UK), that it changed to £19.99.

Yes, figured it out now. Showed full price, but then discount showed up once I selected delivery address (PM) and payment method. Got the additional GBP10 discount applied too.

Chose to pay in EUR with Irish card - is that best option?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,350 ✭✭✭Cortina_MK_IV

No I have my Revolut card registered as payment option and pay in £STG.

Probably not so much of a difference when the amount is so little but try never use Amazons own currency converter as the rates are terrible. Choose to pay in GBP & let your bank set the rates which is usually cheaper. Or better again, pay in GBP with a Revolut pre-paid card.

Nope, amazons conversion rate is crap compared to the banks, unless your bank is the worlds worst lol.

Always pay in sterling and use a card like Revolut if you have one to get an even better rate.

Edit: Misky was faster on the draw!

Get on to chat support and explain the situation, they will either give it to you for the lower price or allow you to cancel and reorder

That happened me before with 1 of them multi-function cooker things. I was literally just after ordering but something happened, I must have pressed refresh at the wrong time or something but ended up ordering it twice when I just wanted 1. I phoned support and all and they couldn't stop it from shipping which I found strange. They did refund me for 1 straight away there and then tho and told me they'd send me a return label to send it back once I received it.

They never did send me a return label even after I contacted them again tho :o

Do you have prime active on that account? Maybe the whole price change thing they might refund you the difference?

Either get on to their c/s and you should get a refund or you could always order it again today and return the first one and get a refund that way

They told me they can't "price match", they're going to get on to the carrier apparently and get them to send it back and refund me....I'm not sure how this is different to actually cancelling it in the first place though.

EDIT: Seems to be sorted now anyway, I'll get charged, then refunded supposedly but I can go ahead and place the order again. Fingers crossed I don't end up with double the items I ordered.... :o

It comes with a 3pin plug to power it but your link will give it power from the tv usb if you have one. No need for plug power then.
