    Germany vs Slovakia

    5:00pm Sunday 26th June
    Stade Pierre-Mauroy

    Team news:

Germany (4-2-3-1): Neuer; Kimmich, Hummels, Boateng, Hector; Khedira, Kroos; Müller, Özil, Draxler; Gomez.

Slovakia (4-3-3): Kozacik, Pekarik, Skrtel, Durica, Gyomber; Krosovsky, Skriniar, Hamsik; Kucka, Duris, Weiss.

We're hurting after our earlier exit but here's some football to help take our minds off it.

This looks a formidable challenge for Slovakia to have to deal with. The prize of a quarter-final with Italy or Spain awaits. Your thoughts on this game?

    I'll say 3-0 to Germany.

Have to give the game a break and do some exercise, hopefully goes to extra time.

This is looking like a profligate German side when it comes to goalscoring opportunities. They'll win, but I'm not so sure that it will be all that comfortable.

    Oh great its Ronnie.

I don't think Hector or Kimmich are good enough for what they need them to do. Fine defensively but attacking wise not great. Hector has a great engine but he hardly does anything when he gets far forward.

    Skrtel will never change.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,379 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

    Skrtel, what a tool.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,690 ✭✭✭✭Skylinehead

    Don't let Ozil take it!

EDIT: yeah. He's not a good taker.

    Ozil Arsenaled it

Muller should be on penos, Ozil is poor at them.

    Skrtel is never captain material.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,679 ✭✭✭AllGunsBlazing

    That was an awful effort.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,640 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Leaving aside our own disappointment, excitement-wise, this is already a much better day of football than yesterday.

An Arsenal player missing a penalty? Well I never. Oh wait, just ask that Swiss player yesterday.

Why on earth is Ozil taking penalties instead of Muller?

That's the new pitch. Only laid a couple of days. Better than the one we played on against Italy anyway.

Ronnie Whelan on Skrtel: "that's what he does well, he blocks things."

    A wordsmith.

No big surprise that a player from a top club is playing well but Kroos has been the player of the tournament so far for me.

    Hamsik, "world class"?

    Hamsik, "world class"?

Overrated by the football manager generation, he is clearly really talented but he's a highlights player.

"Highlights player" is a phrase mainly used by people when they haven't a clue what they're talking about in regards to a player.

Too easy for Germany loads of space to pass & no pressure.

I like Hamsik but I don't think he is that good.

    Save of the tournament?

Lloris in the opening game was pretty good, even if he didn't have to do a whole lot.

    2-0 Germany. Gomez.
