How are you only noticing that women have tattoos now?

Jodie marsh can suck my cock.

I would assume so but I can't see it having much bearing on her tattooing ability...

I like them - especially if a lot of thought has gone into it. As with any form of art though, it's a matter of taste.

There's nothing new about tattoos. Who cares what another person wants to put on their body.

Which workplace? The corporate one? I'd say tattoos are fairly well accepted in the tattoo shop workplace. And in many others that don't happen to be 9 to 5 offices which many people also happen not to work in.

I've noticed an increase in tattoos that look like they're fairly hefty on the ink, and coloured in and such.

Know a few girls (all seem to have the same 'original' ideas, strangely enough) of things like lipstick stick, actual lipstick marks (like a kiss print), cupcakes seem to be common, etc. And I think they look absolutely dire. They're just so classless or something in my opinion. Headphones tattoos or tattoos of cassette tapes or DJ decks etc. seem to be popular too. All done in this weird animated style that would be well suited to a prison convict in some kind of an old american tv show or film or such.

I don't mind tattoos in general. Have contemplated it myself before. I like tattoos that have some form of a meaning, but the amount of people that get a tattoo for the sake of getting a tattoo, and then go overboard and look like Amy Winehouse or something (not a compliment).

But I'm sure there are some people who think the polar opposite of me, so.. to each their own. I just think they can really detract from any kind of natural beauty girls may have (and most women, regardless of whether they're black, white, tall, small, fat, thin, etc. usually have an endearing naturally nice look to them, whether they believe it or not). I just think it's all a bit too 'look at me, everyone..!')

The Rock had the right idea.

I don't know about lately - I've known plenty of tattooed men and women going back nearly 30 years now.

How they are viewed in the workplace? Not sure what that's even supposed to mean... I've never had any employer ask me if I had any tattoos during interview, and nobody ever seemed to object to me (or any other employee here) showing their tattoos in summer. I work for an IT company, in case that's relevant?

I have two tattoos and have had them for a very long time. I would say very few people in my office know I have them because they are always covered. I haven't particularly noticed an increase in tattoos on other women recently. Maybe I'm not paying enough attention.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,570 ✭✭✭Squeeonline

    Tacky and far to permanent.

There are a lot of very tired designs that are everywhere. A tattoo works best (IMO) when it is completely unique and tactfully/discretely positioned.

A lot of people I see with tattoos now look like they were attacked by a 4 year old with a sticker collection.

He's right, it does seem more common now for women to be getting tattooed. Of course women have been getting tattooed for years but a lot of them were more discrete tattoos

A lot of this type now, using Jodie marsh as an example

    They'll look ridiculous when you're 90

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,469 ✭✭✭Olishi4

I don't think I'll ever get one at this stage but if I was going to get one, I like the white tattoos. I also liked the one that Peaches Geldof had. It was a link of flowers all along her leg and stomach.

I know one guy that has tattoos on his face. It doesn't affect his job. I think he has actually been offered work because of his look tbh. I personally think they suit him but I wouldn't recommend anyone getting one on their face.

My OH has 3 tattoos on his arms but no issue in work either.

It'll pass. Trends always do and then there'll be people paying a fortune for laser removal.

I see some other poster has considered investing in a removal clinic. Wouldn't be the worst idea!

Can't stand them myself. Some of them are ridiculous in all fairness.

Ditto TBH. I think most of them look bloody awful and the larger the more awful they look.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Can look great on a person up to maybe late 30s. After that they look like a wizened old scumbag with the faded ink

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 326 ✭✭kellyshell

I have tattoos, got my first 3 when I was 18 and rebelling..........two I hate and the third one (tramp stamp) has been covered with a much larger design in the past two yrs. my aim is to cover 2/3s of my back and I am in the process of getting first part of my sleeve designed.
I love tattoos but regret my first couple, my advice......don't go with the crowd and put time and thought into it. oh and make sure you get a decent artist!

Work in construction, office based. I'm female

I have never seen a tattoo on anyone that I found nice. I find they all look awful with horrible blacks and greens and then faded over time. I do enjoy art but not in this form.

My wife has one from before I met her, is now faded and looks worse. She now wants to get a second. She’s trying to get me enthusiastic about it but I’m not keen at all. Her body though so nothing I can do.

I just don't see what people see in them and how they don’t get sick of them is beyond me. Everything else gets changed in life, taste of clothing, hair etc, so why would you want to be stuck with the same tattoo all the time is beyond me.

You'll have to explain that - did the tattoos get stuck in the lining or something?

I'm kinf of expecting that. There'll be very little of me not looking ridiculous when I'm 90. I'll be a short, wrinkled little prune lady with bright red hair, an ankle tattoo and a nose piercing.
But maybe then I will have enough self-confidence to wear a bikini :D

I've seen lots of women start to get 'sleeves' I personally think it looks awful. Lots of employers won't take you on if tatoos visable, even lower paid work in some department stores.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11 log.lady

I have several tattoos, and have had them for years now and I like them. To be quite honest I couldn't care less if someone dislikes them, as long as they don't start a discussion. I was on the bus once and an old woman pointed at my sleeve and asked me "What will you answer the lord about this when you go to heaven?" and I thought it was the most ridiculous thing anyone could comment.
I have never had problems with work...I cover them up though you might of course see the outline through tights or if the sleeve of your shirt rolls up a bit. Turns out that if you're good at your job your company doesn't seem to care about these things

I have a friend who grew a beard and got a top knot hairstyle. I sarcastically asked when he was getting a sleeve done and replied in all seriousness that he was booked in.

Each to their own, but Christ there's a generation of guys out there who are so generic looking and jumping on this passing style while marking themselves forever.

As is the case with every generation. People like jumping on the bandwagon, regardless of time period.

She represents him on a daily basis and not once has there been an issue. Why?? because she is good at her job, is polite and friendly. Much more important qualities in a staff member than a bit of ink.

I can't really think of another generation who've embraced a fashion trend which revolved around getting large permanent features on their bodies.

I was once walking through a bar (back toward the person I was actually there with) had a guy stop me to tell me all the usual sh*t of me being stunning, made a comment on a particular part of my appearance that he loved all that stuff. I was very polite. He suddenly spotted a tattoo I had, grabbed that part of my body, looked at me in disgust pushed me away and turned back to his friends :pac:

So it worked as a wanker filter that day :D

Edit: I should add that the tattoo in question is now 8 years old and I still absolutely love it to this day. I won't ever need it removed.

Personally I think its a short sighted trend/fad that will fade in a year or two . . .

I fully expect there to be a lot of men & women looking for tattoo removal advice in the years & decades to come.

Just depends on the industry, I couldn't care less if someone has them, I just know of people who haven't been able to apply for certain jobs due to them. I personally don't like them but it wouldn't stop me employing someone.

I actually agree with the part about the industry, if you're customer facing you are usually required to cover them up. I don't really see a problem with it, even though I like tattoos, because this is just common knowledge that everyone should have before deciding on a tattoo.
I work in corporate finance and nobody cares about my tattoos, but I tend to cover them up when in the office.

I personally can't stand them. I've yet to see a tattoo that's taken my breath away with how beautiful it is. That said, where I work, I'm the only one with no tattoo. I love piercings though.

Always had an interest in tattoos and will hopefully be getting my first one in the near future.

I actually have noticed an increase in tattoos mainly among young fellas it seems the type of black and grey work sleeve is now a fashion accessory that you see on footballers.

I have seen a few lads I would know who didn't have a single bit of ink suddenly have a full sleeve in the space of a month or two which I think is mad. It's a huge commitment and takes up a lot of space on your body.

Fair enough if that's the style they like tattoos are very subjective but personally it takes me along time to make my mind up. I'm sure most put alot of thought into it but can't help thinking a lot may have gotten it due to its rise in popularity.

Bit of advice I was given was to print off work you like and stick it someplace you'll see everyday. If you get sick of it after a while well that's not the tattoo for you.

I've shown people the artists I like the best and people either love or hate. I generally like more traditional tattoos but others have caught my eye two such as neo-traditional.

I don't get why tattoos elicit such strong reactions from people, no-one's forcing you to get one! I don't have any tattoos, don't even have my ears pierced but I'd be tempted to get one for the dickhead filter effect
