    ...well? Will he hold on?

Will he turn around the sporting weekend after the disappointment in the Euros yesterday?

He would be an extremely popular winner, by all accounts a very amiable character. Hope he shows he has a ruthless streak and closes it out.

Fully expect him to close it out. Feckin legend already and he's not even 30.

Be fantastic, 69/70 could/should be enough

Yes, he'll win it out. Some talent and a very grounded lad.

    How much will he win?
Will this be his biggest pay day.

$1.8 million (based on last years number), without a doubt the biggest pay day I'd say.

It would, not just prize money but sponsorship, especially winning in the US, suspect it's worth more than the British Open.

And of course, to win a major? I don't think the money will motivate him, he has made millions already. It's a chance to go down in golfing history.

Prize money irrelevant. The sponsorship on the back of a win would be worth close to a 100m. Ask GMAC and he's not even liked.

You're some tool. I guess you're a chiselled Adonis are you? How about we see a pic of your hot bod?

He always comes across as an extremely grounded and friendly sort of guy. Fans, other players and journalists all seem to have nothing but good things to say about him.

I have a small e/w bet on him taken at very generous odds yesterday which has heightened my interest even further.

He's great, an inspiration. And a great beard! I hope he pulls through after watching that sorry lot yesterday.

Hope he does it. Gives all of us fatties hope. Proves you don't need to be a fit bugger to compete at the top

A lot of disappointment about things sporting this weekend. Hope he does close it out but it's the final day of the US open...the nerves will be there.

One thing's for certain: if he does win, he'll be a "British golfer" by this evening. He seems very down-to-earth/no notions about him so I hope he does it. In terms of an underdog doing it, it would be the golfing equivalent of Clare winning the 1995 hurling final.

You won't get much more topical (last post a few seconds before this one). And it's about golf too!

Level par or 1 under should do it for him.

Should be a good evening's viewing watching him bring it home!

Is he any more inspirational than any other successful sportsman in all fairness.

Really hope he wins as I'm from Offaly but I dread this completely overdoing it that occurs anytime anyone from Ireland does well in sport.

The way to win golf is to play the least amount of golf possible.

I saw a video which looked like Shane Lowry playing in America, hitting a ball short into the water, then someone shouting in a strong Irish accent "ya fecking idiot"

    The American commentator apologised.

    Question or questions would be:-

    Was this Shane Lowry?
Was it at the us open currently being played?
Was the voice that shouted Shane himself or just a fan in the crowd?

If it was Shane himself then it was pretty funny. Being from NI we know a lot about Rory Mac, gmac and daddy mac but no so much about Shane tbh.

This us open course is supposed to be a monster so can't see anyone shooting a ridiculously low score so as others have said possibly a level or 1 under could be enough to win it for him.

Shane Lowry - the good Lowry.

Until he starts living the high life and behaving badly.

He's made something like $11 million to date so if he hasn't gone off the rails by now he seems pretty unlikely to do it if he wins. I think a win could get him to realise just how good he is and to really apply himself, his talent is such that he is regarded as the best short game on the European tour and one of the best in the world.

Dustin Johnson has a much more chequered history on the behaving badly front, though still seems to be popular.

Good thing that sport is utterly irrelevant to real life as it is grown-ass people playing games with other grown-ass people cheering them on.

If it has any real effect on you personally you are mentally lacking.

If you go here and click the watch live you should be able to watch it. I've been watching it since 7 with no problem. It's the us opens official site.

I can only find channels that cover specific groups (like McDonnell's) rather than footage of all the players/groups.

That is a problem with it that I didn't notice.
