FP2 is moved to More 4.
A couple of virtual laps from Riccardo and Palmer to look at.

    This too shall pass.

    Saw it on Autosport.

This curb needs to be removed. Cars look very clumsy going around it... if they don't go over it.

Track looks fantastic, but yes, they do look clumsy going around that kerb. It's to really slow them down as much as possible before that section.

That main straight seems to go on forever!

And that bit by the castle is very narrow!

Vettel still very caution, I hope, cause the first bit of the track looks painful with the stop and go sections. The castle part on the other hand amazing, with then some quick fluid corners that look okay.

They are doing some serious speeds on that main straight, 350 kph

Track seems to cut tyres. So FP2 start now in doubt. GP2 Training has been delayed until after F1 Fp2

All went as planned, but if you look at all the yellows and virtual safety car times, this might be a very interesting race. I would wonder if there is no VSC or SC during the race.

If someone drops it into the barrier on the tight and twisty part, there is very little space to recover cars. It'll be more a safety car situation or even a red flag if its two cars who tangle together!

Jenson seemed slightly concerned about there being not so much run off. Probably has a point, 350kph on street circuit must feel pretty fast

Yeah the part by the castle at turns 8 and 9 won't be moved easy. The bits I've seen Baku itself looks great and the track itself seems to offer a challenge.

I think that was where the concern was, If somebody dumped it in the barrier there it would be a high chance the track would be impassable.

And if during the race two cars close together and the one if front put it in the barrier the guy behind won't have much time to react.

If the track became impassable at that point do the cars behind just stop in place if it's red flagged ?

Yes, we had that case in Monaco some years ago.

Didn't the cars go back to the grid on that occasion though ? Or are you thinking of an occasion further back ?

Wasn't there a traffic jam at the hairpin in the 2000 race? Might be out by a year or two

Jenson was talking about safety measures particularly through the tighter corners with little or no runoff areas

Tomorrow will be a crazy for me. Ireland v Belgium, Le Mans, and qualifying for the Azerbaijan GP will all start at the same time

That means I will be watching the TV, laptop and tablet at the same time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,710 ✭✭✭Charlie-Bravo

If there's an incident, and it's quite possible this will happen at turns 8 and 9 within the first two laps, you'll have a complete restart with those badly damaged removed from the race.

And if a red flag happens thereafter, they'll be brought to the pit lane in race order and the teams can work on cars (it'll be a safety car restart for first last I reckon).

Here's another thing, if it happens to block the track fully, there's no way an F1 car could tick over waiting for the blockage to clear so then you'll have a queue of cars with engines switched off. That's not going to be easy to recover all those cars for a restart.

Lots to consider but I suppose we just have to wait and see!!

How ironic would it be now, for Hamilton to crash this weekend.

You can overdo it too you know. Why not record one of them and watch the other two. Me I will record the match and watch the F1. Might watch a few bits of the Le Mans recorded but I am not in too that that much just curious to see if anything big happens in it.

Kerbs removed on the exit of turns 6 & 12 and some change to the pit entry made overnight. Clearly there were some valid reasons for the drivers concerns yesterday.

And as for Hamilton moaning about drivers moaning. According to Rosberg he was also moaning about the pit entry privately

Several safety cars, and the crews at the circuit waving the wrong flags. And only 10 finishers

Unfortunate, but that wouldn't be irony.

An example of irony would be if say a crash occurred to Button or Rosberg as a result of a car losing grip on the paint markings (put down to replace unsafe kerbs).

Gearbox penalty for Checo after he crashed in final practice. Crap, Force India is looking pretty racey this weekend. Maybe Hulk might finally have that first podium?

I agree with DC - the locals can't afford it. Azerbaijan is working hard at becoming a modern democratic country with a balanced economy, but it's not quite there yet.

Excited to watch this. Looks very tight and the long straights should be exciting too.

Am I right in saying the gear ratios are now set at the start of the season and some people will be on the limiter on these long straights. Have some teams gone with a very long top gear or would that cost them too much on the other races throughout the year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,091 ✭✭✭✭bnt

Verstappen hit 354 km/h (220 mph) on the straight thanks to slipstreaming.

He did, and was safe for literally one second before being pushed back down to the exclusion zone by Haryanto. Can he get another in? Nope.
