Not seeing anything really ground breaking I must say, voice commands can be just annoying

Siri has improved a lot recently and it seems there's more upgrades on the way. We're also finally getting an Irish localisation which should make it a lot more useful over here.

However, the biggest Mac news wasn't even mentioned in the keynote: a new filesystem for 2017 to replace the antiquated HFS filesystem.

This new file system is the clearest sign yet that Apple will go with all machines using a SSD by the time APFS is released. That would would mean the base model iMac and the cMBP being upgraded/deleted respectively.

Siri and auto-unlock for me are enough to make me upgrade in a heartbeat. The unified clipboard and universal desktop and documents folder are also great upgrades.

Has anyone installed the public beta? If so how you are getting along with it? What's stability like?

I'm downloading it now. I'm looking for info around the net for anyone who has installed it on a Mid 2013 Macbook Air before I commit to is :D

    Update
Seems to be a mixed bag of experiences here. I think I'll hold off..

I've been playing around with it over the last few days. As usual there are quite a few things that don't work with it, but it's no worse than any previous beta.

I don't think I've used any of the new features on it.

I've installed it on 2016 MacBook. No problems with my uses so far. Tabbed finder is about all I use from new features.

Wasn't tabbed finder in El Cap too?

    Me: Hey Siri.

    Siri: Well boy...

New FS is great news btw.

Maybe. I wasn't aware :) one of the features of Sierra is adding tabs to nearly all apple apps. So I tried it out in finder, but I guess finder may have had it all along.

Finder tabs are useless to me without a single window mode that forces new windows to always open as a tab. 99 percent of time when I open a new Finder window I'm doing it from an app (Reveal in Finder, etc), so I still end up with a million Finder windows open. I can merge them, but there's no default keyboard shortcut for this and while I added one I can never remember it and just end up hitting cmd-alt-W and starting over.

If anyone wants to tell me this has been fixed in Sierra it would be music to my ears.

Have read event thread in the Apple Devices forum, but not caught up on any OS news.

Is there much to expect here?

Mac OS wasn't really mentioned today. However we do have a release date which is earlier than usual. 20th September. GM is out now for developers.

This is out on the 20th. But the GM is available now to public beta users if anyone wants to update early.

Lads, Sierra seems to be blowing the fans on my Macbook Air constantly! With no apps open or anything. Nothing strange in system monitor - no high cpu/ram usage). Just big noisy fans!!

Time to dump the fans and get a MacBook? :)

It's 3 spots down on my list of Apple priorities at the moment :( Unless it drives me utterly around the bend!

Did you just install? It's probably indexing and scanning photos, which can take a few hours.

Installed on Monday, it's been on since. I also moved photos and docs to iCloud.

Done but took an hour and a half to download and install, even with an SSD. Seems much the same. Siri works fine.
