I registered with Easytrips but hadn't cancelled my eFlow.

Interestingly, on setting up the account with Easytrips the woman on the phone informed me immediately that I wouldn't be able to billpay. I told her I knew that, was extremely unhappy about it but that I had no other alternatives.

When I asked if there was a 'complaints number' I could ring to express my dissatisfaction as a new customer, I was put on hold and then told 'There's no complaint number but I can note that on the account. It won't be read by anyone unless they choose to access your account for some reason'.

So I'll be cancelling Easytrips now and will tell them that as eFlow offer a system of payment for adults I'm going back to them and Easytrips can stuff their kiddies payment system :)

I currently have a Video Account for M50 only.

Am I right in saying if I convert to a Tag account I can use this on both the M50 and M7/M8 tolls?

On the M7/M8 do you just keep right into the lane with no barrier and drive straight through?

Also, I know it's a €1 rental per month, but how do you pay for the tolls, is it just direct debited / billed like a video account?

    Thanks

Yes you can do exactly that. It really depends on your usage to see if it makes sense for you. Can you justify a €12 charge per year. Both can be set to charge to credit card or a bank account. Up to you.

For Eflow, the tag account is billed monthly on the same date. All itemised. Works on all tolls including the tunnels.

For eTrip it is a top up account. You decide the top up amount and once it hits €6 then it tops up by that amount and you get the bill. Also works on all tolls but for extra, you also get to use it on particular car parks.

I dumped Eflow weeks ago and to be honest, I don't see any difference. It works. The eTrip one does beep at me going into a few car parks but I haven't signed up for parking on the tag so I just ignore that.

And that's why I had no interest in switching myself. I'll happily pay for whatever I use, but have zero interest in maintaining "credit" for the privilege.

Call them and see would be your best bet though.

Isn't there a 24/48 hour cooling off period on services you sign up to online? I think there is and you can cancel no questions asked.

I think you're right but I thought it was 7 or 14 days.

There is a barrier(!) Slow down to about 50kph, your tag will be read and the signs will show you whether to keep going straight (if it was read) or exit left into the normal lane (if it was not read). All going well, the barrier further on will open and you can barrel on.

The majority, like me, weren't going to take action until it became absolutely necessary. Which never happened.

I wasnt bothered enough to move, and I was never going back to easy trip so happy an agreement was in place. But my little bubble of m50 port tunnel use meant I wasn't going to be put out.

Kinda feels like the customer comes last in this though. More cash for eflow.

Forgive my blondeness but how do you add credit to an Easytrip account? I have a top up amount option but no way to actually pay anything. They have my bank details so do they add credit at a certain time/ when the account reached zero? I don't see any option for setting a low balance level? Should have stuck with eflow!

Flip it, I signed up with Easytrip on Thursday, as it didn't look like this was going to be resolved. I didn't cancel eFlow yet as I wanted to the new tag before I sent back the old. Will have to sort that out now.

The amount is topped up once you reach a balance of 6 euro. You would have agreed a top up amount when setting up and typically equal to your monthly usage. The amount is viewed on the first page you see when you login to your online account which you can change. Your statement is also on that page.

eFlow and eToll websites still have notices about eToll not working after Aug 31. Yesterday I drove on M1 and notice the 'No eFlow' signs on the M1 have been removed, so I assume it's a delay updating the websites at the weekend.

Got two emails from eFlow about the tags stopping working but none to alert that the spat was over.

Yeah I was on the N25 toll this evening and all signs are gone. You would think at least they would have signs up saying that all tags will work.

OK so it's resolved but for those of us who were hoping the Minister would get involved , here's the response I received to my email asking Shane Ross to take action.

"Thank you for your email regarding toll tag interoperability which was received by my office on 16 August 2016. As Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport, I have responsibility for overall policy and funding in relation to the national roads programme. The planning, design and operation of individual road projects is a matter for Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) under the Roads Acts 1993 to 2015 in conjunction with the local authorities concerned.
Furthermore, the statutory power to levy tolls on national roads, to make toll bye-laws and to enter into agreements relating to tolls on national roads is vested in Transport Infrastructure Ireland under Part V of the Roads Act 1993 as amended.
The contractual arrangements relating to tag interoperability are therefore entirely matters for TII and are commercially sensitive. TII has briefed my Department on the position and it is the case that with effect from 31st August eFlow's tags will no longer be accepted at toll points on M1 near Drogheda, M7/M8 near Portlaoise and the N25 Waterford City Bypass. I have been informed by TII that the toll collection agreements previously in place expired earlier this year and that while a new agreement has been concluded with other toll operators unfortunately eFlow has not been able to reach an agreement with the Celtic Roads Group which would cover these three toll points. It is not, therefore, a case of eFlow withdrawing its tags.
I understand that eFlow is in the process of contacting all tag customers to advise them of the change and will provide assistance to customers who wish to switch to another tag provider. There is no cost associated with switching tag provider for customers, but all tag providers charge an account management fee.
My Department has been informed that contacts are continuing between TII and the Celtic Roads Group and I have asked to be kept informed of any developments.
    With best wishes,
    Shane Ross"

Any odds I'll get another one claiming they got it sorted?

Glad I held out on switching from eFlow though.

2 days to go and they send me the attached.

Too late as I've already set up another account with another provider. So annoying.

I switched to EasyTrip, their payment system doesn't bother me.

I had reason to contact Eflow once or twice about incorrect toll fees and they were absolutely appalling to deal with, multiple depts etc and no one I spoke to seemed any way accountable for resolving my issue which was being "investigated". Sorted in the end but I was a happy boy posting their tag back to them :)

eFlow customer for about 6 years.

Signed upto parkmagic on Friday afternoon, turned on the news to see it's now resolved. So annoying.

Has anyone any experience with parkmagic and info on their tag? (is it smaller than eFlow) - Kinda want to leave eFlow after the messing.

Don't believe the problem was really EFlow. All the other operators had signed up. CRG would appear to be the culprits.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,280 ✭✭✭✭Autosport

Received an email today from Eflow to apologise for any inconvenience caused and the tags will work.

The moral of the story here (for me anyway) is that allowing private operators to hold sway over key routes is unsustainable.

You need them to help pay to build the thing - fine.. pay them a fee and a percentage of the profits thereafter for x years (certainly not an indefinite arrangement) but control of key infrastructure like motorways should remain with the State.

eFlow is Tii (used to be the NRA), they were proposing increasing their commissions that CRG already pay them, CRG were objecting saying no. In the end all the money for the tolls goes back to Tii so they were really arguing about collecting commissions against their own cash! State owned business arguing with a state contacted business. Great for the consumer!

checking out the Tii website, http://www.tii.ie/projects/road-schemes/projects/n1m1-dundalk-western-by-p/, scroll down to the bit about
"PAYMENTS FROM CELTIC ROADS GROUP TO THE AUTHORITY"
95% of the tolling revenue is paid directly to Tii. 95%!!!! And they then argued over commission rates being paid on the 5% to themselves through their own tolling company eFlow! FFS. If I wasn't already with someone else, I'd swap on principle.
