    From the IFPAC facebook page
Inland Fisheries Ireland will commence a complete stock assessment survey of lough Derg on Monday 13th June. The survey will last for 3 weeks. This will be carried out in the same manner as the Lough Ree stock assessment survey which was carried out in Spring 2014. This survey is being carried out at the request of the local clubs around Lough Derg.
The Lough Ree survey attracted a lot of adverse publicity at the time. That said, it is important to know a lot about fish stocks in our lakes. Surveys will indicate what stocks of each species are like, the strength of each year class, what they are feeding on etc. and to get some of this information it is necessary that fish samples are taken away for detailed examination. Most healthy fish caught in the nets will be measured, have scale samples taken and then released.
When the Lough Ree survey was carried out IFI had a base where all dead fish were taken to for recording/sampling . This was open to any angler to attend and take notes etc. There were charts on the walls indicating numbers of each fish species caught at each location. We would expect that IFI will operate in the same manner on Lough Derg.
