What sort of hours are you doing? There's no way you could move in closer? Even part of the week?

I do 18 hours per week but I start at 9am every morning and some days I don't finish til 5. I'm usually up by 6.30am and am exhausted by about 4pm. Then have to face commute home. When I get home I just collapse in the chair til bedtime.

I have no idea what that is..but they take attendance at 3 of my lectures and expect a minimum of 80% attendance

Panapto is lecture recording that can be accessed through Blackboard and directly via the panapto web page.

If you are registered with the Disability Support Service you can avail of this for lectures.

If you are not registered you could request access via your faculty or lecturers. Just explain your situation. Some might say no but you won't know until you ask. You'd only need it for the morning classes anyway.

Thanks for the advice.. But I just think at 45 I'm too old for all this. College is really for young people or those living nearby..who can avail of clubs and societies etc. I'm finding it a rather lonely and stressful experience which at my age I don't really need. I'd rather be with people of my own age group.

You're not too old. Plenty of people older have come and got through it. Planning here is huge. Stick it out!

I'm 31. I have kids. I know what you're saying. It can be quite difficult when 90% of the classroom are 10 years or more younger.

Have you tried the Mature Student common room? The UCC thread on here used to have a meet up thread. I can meet you for a coffee on campus as well if you want.

Thanks..I know I sound like a miserable sod but I was really looking forward to this and I am a positive person. I maybe could have planned my timetable better but I do think the parking situation for a college with 20000 students is a joke. Pouladuff is full before 8 45 and Black Ash doesn't start til 9.25 and doesn't run at all on Fridays.I'll give it one more week . if I drop out before Friday it gives me the option of applying again next year with my MSAP with free fees.

That's the job! Its been so long since I was in town I wouldn't know where to go. A few of my younger classmates are already missing classes and assignments due to over socialising. I was like that when I was in college first time around. Think I might start joining them lol

Yea the younger ones in my class are at the same.. Friday lectures at 9 are normally quite empty!! I couldn't be dealing with going out and then trying to function in college.. only reason I made it out on a Thursday night was because it was the class welcome party

I'd need a day in bed after a night out now lol when I was younger I was a party animal. Which library do u use..the one in Brookfield or the Boole?

  • Registered Users Posts: 75 ✭✭leesadin

I'd need about two or three days now!! Lol.. I use the Brookfield library generally.. it's not as busy as Boole..

I'm not sure what the parking situation is on a Saturday.. I haven't managed to make my way near the campus yet on a Saturday!! Lol... I'd say the Mardyke won't be as busy on the weekends as it would be during the week!

There are about 10 spaces in there for students and they are almost always full. I've tried to place a few times in the summer and it was still chok a blok

In the car park(pay)? I've seen lads break into cars in the walkway car parks on the Lee road on more than one occasion.

I just parked along the road by the bridge... it was free on one side... I used it quite regular before my permit was sorted.. and left it overnight one night too. And had no problems.. but then my car is a 00 micra!!

The car parks at the end of the walkway opposite the crows nests site and the car park half way up the lee fields I was referring too.

Are you talking about the area in front of the church by the entrance to the UCC rugby pitch?

There's a UCC P&R car park at Dennehys Cross.

Ucc students can't use that at the weekends

I mean on down to the end of the road past the church and turn left.. it's across the river from the back of the Kingsley...
