Away on a break up north for fishing trip, lost my car keys and don't know what to do. Someone mentioned I'll need log book and can take up to 3 days for new keys but I'm a few hundred miles away and log book in House :(

Retrace steps (usual advice I know!), check in to local pubs, Garda station etc.
I recently found keys, and on them was the reg, and owners name. Gaurds was useless, so I have put adds up online and keys still here. Obviously not yours but check lost.ie and donedeal etc

Check with your insurance company, you may have lost or stolen keys cover under your policy. If you are covered then they will send a locksmith or someone out to you.

Is there an option to ask someone to pick up spare key from your house and send it through courier?

A car auto key specialist will. They can have all they need in rear of van.

Ask the lads who stole the BMW in 3 minutes. They would get it going in no time. I think they only work nights though. :)

Guess you've never lost car keys before, away from home:rolleyes:

Was talking to a guy who works in dealers and he says there's no chance I'll get it going or even get a new key without the log book.

I had this happen with my mother's car. The car dealer she bought it off (new) remembered her, this was a good few years later. He rang the local main dealer's nearest me and they sorted it. A few years ago now but might be an option if you're there till they open Tuesday

Have you photo ID? I wonder if you attended the garda station and explained the situation would they give you something in writing to state the cars registered to you, that you could show to any locksmith/dealer to cover their arses if they unlock the car for you?

I'd be asking the locksmith what proof he'd be happy with. Letter from insurance company, they might email you something. The alternative is getting it towed home, and that'll probably cost a fair bit.

Do you have a spare key at your house that a relative or friend can drive up to you?

This couldn't be less helpful if you tried.
OP, what sort of car is it? Where exactly in the North are you? And where are you from in the country?

Worth asking what car it is before we lose our minds.

If it's from the last decade and you have no access to a spare, then realistically you are getting towed to a main dealer.

Ring your insurer. You may be covered for this under roadside assistance.

    1. Have you a spare key at home?
    2. Does someone have a key to get into your house?
    3. What make/model and year is the car?
    4. Did you buy the car new from a dealer?

The replies above are pointless with out some basic information about the actual car.

I lost keys for a Golf one Christmas and a locksmith had a new key cut and coded in 30 minutes in the back of his van. Cost me €300 though...

Lads, until we know exactly what it is the OP is driving (and we are just getting snippets of information) then I see it as pointless trying to provide further advice.
OP answer the above and you might get more accurate advice.
