Delighted for them. That penalty at the end would have been all kinds of cruel if it had gone in

Indeed. Naturally a lot of focus will be on KK, but Westmeath have been developing well at under age in recent years.

KK out of both underage codes before June has even started, must be the first time that has happened in ages.

Fair play to Westmeath. They nearly beat Limerick last summer and now have a major scalp.

And after meath beat them at minor 3 years ago.

What an astonishing result in Mullingar tonight. Great for the greater game of hurling and hopefully the Westmeath co board will give the lads the backing they deserve. They've been knocking on the door with quite a while now

Bit of a nightmare year for underage inter county hurling in kilkenny minors and under 21s out. Congrats westmeath

Waterford have been very unlucky in this grade over the years and are tipped to be one of the favourites dis year but they have to play Clare in Walsh park in July who have always excelled in this grade

Defending champs Limerick will be the team to beat. Tipperary and cork also rumoured to have good teams this year. Galway go in as the unknowns dis year (really need to enter Leinster or Munster)

    Result from tonight, Leinster quarter-final:
    Dublin 2-12 Wexford 1-8

Massive win for the Dubs as Wexford had won Leinster for the last three years. Dublin should really fancy their chances in taking the provincial title now.

Yes, they have a good chance of winning Leinster. However, I think they'll struggle should they enter the All Ireland series against the Munster teams, and Galway, who I'd all rate as a good bit ahead of them. I think Leinster hurling is in a very weak state at underage.

Dublin dominating general play but behind on the scoreboard.

butchered a few goal chances, giving an extra pass instead of taking on the shot or not wanting to shoot on their weaker side

    Fantastic goal for the Dubs.

Difficult conditions for seeing the ball however.

Ref got a new whistle I see. Hasn't stopped blowing the thing.

Yeah he did his best to ruin the game.

He is always the same in club games down here too. Very fussy and whistle happy. We have ten better referees in the county so I don't know why he got the inter county nod.

    For completeness sake...

    Leinster semi-final result:
    Offaly 5-16 Carlow 1-13

Offaly will now take on Dublin in the final on Wednesday July 6th in O'Connor Park, Tullamore.

It'll be Offalys first time in the final since 2008. Coincidentally, that was the last time the final was played in O'Connor Park.

Both Dublin and Offaly have won the Leinster U-21 championship five times.

After a shocking start its turned out not a bad year for Offaly hurling, hopefully they put in a good performance in the final and give themselves something to build on...

Offaly have scored something like 10 - 30 in their two games so far, so Dublin will need to be at their very best.

People were giving Carlow a chance on basis that their 21s, a few of them playing last night, had run Cats to two last year. Offaly minors had slaughtered them last year and year before. Bookies badly caught by some I think as they cut price from 1/2 to 2/7 yesterday evening.

Hard to believe that when they last met in final in 2006, Offaly were roaring favourites and still a force to be reckoned at at senior. It was Dublin's first win since 1971. Tables turned now, but I would say it will be close game. Two teams with an eye for the net, so should be entertaining as well.

Ah yeah, but we're rubbish! :p :pac:

Well, it is certainly not the best Cats under 21 team. I think that is fair to say!

Seriously though, it can only be good that the underage Leinster set up is more competitive. Admittedly, that may be due in some measure to Cats being below par, but even so.

Be interesting to see how Dublin or Offaly fare against Galway. Leinster record over past ten years has been pretty poor.

The 2016 Munster Hurling Under-21 Championship starts tonight with Limerick playing Cork. Live coverage on TG4 from 7.15pm.

    Quarter-Final | Limerick v Cork | Pairc Ui Rinn | 28 June 7:30pm
    Semi-Final | Tipperary v QF winner | Semple Stadium/Pairc Ui Rinn | 13 July 7:30pm
    Semi-Final | Waterford v Clare | Waterford | 13 July 7:30pm
    Final | | TBC | 28 July 7:30pm

The Munster U-21 championship always starts later that the Leinster championship, but it seems even later than usual this year.
And I can't understand why the two semi-finals are played at the same time

The Munster semis are on 3 days after the senior munster final(Waterford and Tipp involved) and 4 days after round 2 of the Qualifers (expected Limerick and Clare will be involved, Cork possibly too). Whats the point in putting pressure on players on both Senior and U21 squads

There were players involved who were doing the Leaving Cert so it was put on hold until exams were finished, same as the minor championship.

What about the players playing u21 football?.

The structures and organization in GAA is brutal.

Most teams play 2/3 meaningful games in a year and they can't even organise them properly to ensure a smooth season.

Galway don't even get games in this, starting in a semi final with a guaranteed final whenever they face Ulster every few years.

The Galway county board were offered to go into the Leinster Minor and under 21 championships a few years ago I think and they refused it. Probly wanting there underage players a chance to play on the big stages (almost playing minor in Croke Park every year)

Decent game this, Limerick a goal ahead at half time

Have you anything to back up that claim or was it just a good chance to get a dig in on Galway without any substance?.

Because the opposite happened in 2014.

    http://www.irishmirror.ie/sport/gaa/hurling/leinster-council-delegates-vote-not-4577124

Leinster Council delegates vote not to allow Galway to participate in province's under-21 and minor hurling championships

So don't come out with pure rubbish to suit an agenda "They want easy titles"..... thats the case for the Leinster also rans who wanted a weaker championship to suit their own vested interests.

Really poor for a team to start so bad, claw their way back and then score 3 points for the majority of the second half and slump to a second big deficit.

Looks like Corks recent struggles wont end in the next few years.

My bad I thought Galway refused to enter. My deepest apologies

Cant find the counties listed but my understanding was it wasn't even the biggest rivals to Galway at senior(Kilkenny).

Ridicules that they can even decide that, should come from the GAA itself.

The U21 championship is left with one decent provincial and a lob sided Leinster(despite KK suffering woes at present) with Antrim's bye providing an easy semi final for whoever gets them.

How about trying a complete open draw for U-21?

Antrim, Carlow, Clare, Cork, Dublin, Galway, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Limerick, Offaly, Tipperary, Waterford, Westmeath, Wexford, plus one other county to make it 16 teams.
