    Received an e-mail from Macaris.

    Email says:
We will be open tomorrow from midday until midnight. All Fish & Chips will be half price.

    Deliveries
Our delivery service will start at 12pm tomorrow (normally 4pm), so if you would like some Fish & Chips delivered to your home or work place (once its local!) order online at macaris.ie or call us on 018375714.

    Tips for the day
    - If you plan on ordering a delivery, they may take up to 75 mins. It works out better to call into the store.
    - Earlier you get down to the shop the better, less queuing!
    - Collection orders can take up to an hour during peak times (5pm - 9pm). Again its quicker to just pop down to the shop and join the Q
    - We try and move the Q as fast as we can so if its out the door don't be worried we'll be working our best so you can get served as quick as possible and start munching on your fish and chips
    - Don't leave it too late to come in as fish may run out.
    - Ray is a hot seller and normally sells out before 7pm
    - Finally check out the fish menu so you can be be super prepared tomorrow :)
    Fresh Cod & Chips 4.55
    Smoked Cod & Chips 4.55
    Ray & Chips 5.40
    Fish Box 3.25
    Fish Burger & Chips 2.50
    Cod Portion & Chips 3.60
Look forward to seeing you tomorrow

Christ are they still flogging this.
Some chippers pull a fast one and give nice small portions of fish.

I'd rather not Q for an extra 30 mins therefore I'm OOT!!!

It's a day started by ITICA
Who are by far the best chippers in Ireland, several other chippers have jumped on the band wagon and these are the ones who reduce portion size along with offering processed fish instead of fresh fish.

I'll gauge the Q after work and probably just go to the fish shop for fish cakes :-)

The ITICA chippers are complete random from place to place regarding portions etc, they certainly don't share any equal quality across the board.

By "fresh" you mean frozen at sea blocks? Don't try pretend they're selling fresh Irish fish....

I'm not. I'm saying that it's s proper piece of fish as oppose to the large processed fish finger other places do

Are Burdocks doing it this year? Their social media doesn't appear to be updated very often.

That's known as a "square cod" not their "fresh" cod.

If the portion's of fish were as big as the irony in this post no one would be complaining about the day.

What did you expect. Vic is dead right. Every year is the same. Posters complain about the queues, the portion sizes, the quality of the food, etc; It is what it is, and plenty of people will avail of the deal.

Of course they will, and every year it's the same thing people complaining about people complaining regardless of whether it's valid or not, if we're not foaming at the mouth because of a deal it's 'whinging'. I'm not knocking the deal as such just that criticisms of individual places can be valid.

Only way to go man , none of this "Fresh" or Square nonsense ... might even treat myself to a few Onion rings and a curry sauce with it.

    You really don't.

Been in the media a lot over past few years where it's anything from pollock, panga to Vietnamese cobblers!

    http://www.irishmirror.ie/news/irish-news/health-news/new-study-reveals-takeaways-selling-3050869
But the takeaway fake fish scandal is still as bad as ever with 41.7% of fish still mislabelled as cod, compared to 50% in 2010.

Four years ago researchers investigating food fraud found around a quarter of the cod and haddock sold Dublin was another fish species altogether.

Genetic checks by a team from UCD even discovered some exotic-sounding but foul-tasting varieties being used as substitutes for cod and haddock.

    still tastes good though! :o

Just back from my chipper in kilbarrick, the queue was out the door!!

    Bloody delish

Heard a story about a lad who parked outside a chipper to get his half price fish and chips and never fed the meter. The queue was longer than he expected and when he got back to his car, yes you guessed it, he was clamped.

He did save 4 quid on the fish and chips though.

Was none advertised in Sligo on ITHICA website but local chipper Robertos had it for a fiver.. no-queue and was delish!

I was hoping something like this would happen having seen the cars on double yellows blocking the road near mine

They had nearly driven in the front door at my local chippe if it helped them get there fish quicker. loads of parking twenty seconds across the road but oh no park in the doorway.

Happy for ya. Robertos has been very poor last two times I have been in and many others I know. Lets hope they keep the quality consistent.

Oh, i completely agree with you about how inconsistent it is..

.. but obviously fish flying on the door all evening so seemed very fresh with a light crispy batter, and chips with just enough salt and vingear.

Definitely more impressed this evening than I have been the last few times there.

I enjoyed mine today. No queue, nice big piece of fish and mushy peas and lemon wedge thrown in.

I was Lazy and ordered mine online. Got it an hour later! Was delish! The queue for my local chipper was a 25 minute wait. Rather spent it at home in my jocks!

NO - Mackcrocknsack is Absolutely Correct.
It doesn't matter if ITICA started it.

Went to a 'normally' good chipper on the Malahide Rd in Artane during the last promotion for
    2 for price of 1Fish & Chip.

The chipper is a member of ITICA.

It was my daughters 1st time to have Fish with her chips from a chipper.

The batter was thick with a much smaller fish portion inside - The fish was not fresh either. It was dry - The sole of my shoe would have tasted better.

Needless to say my daughter won't even attempt to eat fish out of a chipper again & we will not be going back to that chipper, which charges over the odds for their food, compared to other chippers.

Just thought .... Maybe the fish was cheap cooley which probably costs a quarter of the price of cod.
