    Well done Melodeon

So its a shorter stage than Saturday and its steep with less climbing ....
Nibali & Valverde will be looking to take back some time
But it looks like a Chaves stage to me

However who knows how riders will be feeling after the rest day

As for the Break I 'd go Boswell , Nieve or Henao e/w ...Also Dombroski or Attapuma again

Philip Deignan has said he hasn't been feeling well all along but hopes to feel better after the rest day

Joe Dombrowski must know something we don't!

40km of slightly downhill road to start with. Will the breakaway form on that type of parcour?
Then a Cat. 2 climb followed by 50km of descending. A Cat. 2 and Cat. 3 to finish.

Not too extreme.... Or am I missing something?

Roche on Sticku Bottle talking about his weight and not 100% yet. Still wants to attack. Sounds like he is trying to be positive but morale in the camp isn't all that

These shorter stages usually make for great racing. Nibali and Valverde can't sit back and allow their teams to tempo ride up climbs.

Yeah I know the shorter stages can be far more exciting. But tomorrow starts with 40km of downhill. A nice way to get the legs warmed up :)

Downhill start good for Nibali to charge the motor in his bike before abandoning it under the guise of a dropped chain before the finish to avoid the test.

Actually, I'm surprised that conspiracy theory hasn't gained more traction the way things are these days.

I think Dombroski means that Movistar & Astana will go all out on this stage
Could drill it from the off

Nibali & Valverde are smarting and there will be plan ....maybe unsaid joint plan to attack Lotto & OGE who have weaker teams

LOL @ Mendola being a Cat. 2 climb, it's an absolute monster.

I think the winner will be from the break as the stage is very short... Someone like Ullissi or Taaramae would be my shout. I can only see a GC win if the peloton push it hard from the get go. I'm hoping Chaves isn't settling for 2nd place an pushes it, he seems to be the guy in form. Hopefully Astana and Movistar work together to set a frantic pace and put S.K under pressure.

This stage has unreal potential, if this was a TDF stage it'd probably suck, but the Giro rarely disappoints.

I feel sorry for the Giro always clashing with the Rás

The Cat. 2 climb Fai della Paganella was tackled at the end of Stage 3 in the Giro del Trentino last month. That stage, although a good bit longer than today, had a similar parcours with a downhill start, followed by a long climb, another descent and then the Fai della Paganella climb near the finish.

Tanel Kangert won the stage while Jakob Fuglsang came fourth. Vincenzo Nibali also rode the stage. He did finish a lowly 32nd, but he wasn't targeting the GC. The omens are good for Astana today.

Philip Deignan rode this stage as well. So we might see him in the breakaway today perhaps.

Visconti, Ulissi, Denifl, Atapuma, Henao and Cunego up a tree

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,506 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

The riders have started climbing the 'Cat. 2' Passo della Mendola.
As predicted, no breakaway managed to form before the climb.
    Movistar are leading the peloton.

    It's all kicking off.
    Zakarin attacks, followed by Kangert.

Zakarin attacks, Kangert follows. Brambilla and a Sky rider and a few more trying to bridge. Kruijswijk isolated already.

    Valverde!!

Chaves is way down the main group. Nibali was down there too but he's easily joined up to the front again.

Majka has attacked with a teammate, Nibbles has a mechanical and has to swap bikes with a teammate. This stage is epic already!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,506 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

    Nibali with another mechanical.
    Dodgy Campag electronic gears! :pac:

    Duran Duran has attacked.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,488 ✭✭✭Andre 3000

Valverde attacks and all the GC lads follow except Chaves who looks f*cked

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,506 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

Irregardless if all the GC riders don't gain time on each other by the end of the stage, the racing at the moment is epic!

Those pop up ads on Eurosport player seem to only come up in the minimized screen format. Full screen appears to be OK. They've tinkered with the website recently so that may have something to do with it.

Why is the pink jersey helping with the break away. He should be more worried about Nibali than Chaves and saving his energy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,084 ✭✭✭✭neris

think i have the pop ups sorted :)

He probably just feels very strong. It'll be disheartening to Nibali to see Kruijswijk coming through and taking turns on the front.

yep, its wrecking my head. i don't want to know about the tennis unless Andy Murray is getting shot headfirst out of whatever tournament the miserable git is playing .

He also probably fears Chaves' climbing ability, and knows Valverde and Zakarin want a podium and nothing more so he's using that to his advantage.

The stage is super short, and the pace has been frantic. ES still have to fit in their ads somehow.

I wonder how far back are the grupetto.... time limit could be an issue today.

Average speed so far: 45.2 km/h

Rob Hatch on Eurosport mentioned earlier that an average speed of 36 km/h would mean that the time limit would be around 22-23 minutes.

is that ValVerde in he front group?
