Here she is the overwhelming winner of AR New Poster of the Year 2015, the Princess of the Southside, we're taking Boards Royalty here lads, the effervescent Firedance. I'll get the ball rolling with some nice easy questions:

1. What does Boards mean to you?
2. We all know you like a bit of Parkrun tourism, money no object, where in the world would your dream one be?
3. How of all the Boardsies he has met, does Woody like FBOT?
4. Sipping wine or chugging beer?
5. Running aspirations going forward?
6. How hard was it to miss Rotterdam?
7. Dream dinner-date(ya cant pick me!!)?
8. We all know YOU think you know a bit about Gaelic Football, favourite Dublin footballer past or present?
9. Tell us something we don't know about you?
10. Running, what has it thought you about yourself?

A posh southside princess in self-imposed exile in Meath - crikey, that's really bonkers. Luckily you found a top-notch running club, not to mention this forum.
• Are you able to understand the locals yet, and vice versa?
• Honda or Yamaha?
• Favourite book? Movie? Movie scene? TV programme? Period drama?
• You've been kind enough to compliment my accomplishments - do you have any DIY skills of your own?
• You've inspired loads of people on here - which boardsie has inspired you most?
• What does tang1 have on you that made you say "yes"?
• We're all delighted to see you making a good recovery from your recent illness - what has been the hardest thing to deal with over the past few weeks?
• Desert island - Garmin, Kindle, or phone?

Thanks Barry, despite my 7 no's here were are!!

1. What does Boards mean to you?

Gosh where do I start? Probably more than I can put into words. Its filled with super super people, great runners who are kind enough to share their wisdom (usually gained by lessons learned the hard way themselves) with other runners. I'm privileged to count many of you as friends in real life, I'm not sure where I'd be from running perspective if I hadn't found boards, I'm pretty sure I know where I'd be from a mental perspective it wasn't for boards and all of you top notch lovely people :)

2. We all know you like a bit of Parkrun tourism, money no object, where in the world would your dream one be?

I'm bit of a home bird actually (not burd a la UM1) and money no object I'd love to be able to travel to the various parkruns around the country - most of them would require an overnight stay etc. I guess I'd like to see one in Chicago and there's a couple in Italy I'll probably get to eventually!

3. How of all the Boardsies he has met, does Woody like FBOT?

Its a lovely story actually. I brought woody to one of the race series in the PP last year on supporting duties. He was of course overwhelmed with the crowds and the noise and was a bit distressed. I'd never met FBOT but this guy wandered over and I told him be careful he'll snap! FBOT got down on his hunkers, kept his distance and put is hand out for woody to come over, he won him over in a matter of seconds, I was more impressed with that than his race time on the day :p

4. Sipping wine or chugging beer?

Pardon? One doesn't chug beer! Definitely sipping wine  although I do enjoy a nice cold beer the only chugging I'll be doing is at the beer mile!!

5. Running aspirations going forward?
There's a marathon daemon out there that needs slaying. I've lots though, break 50 for the 10K, get a sub 25 in Cabinteely, 1:50 HM - lots of work to be done!

6. How hard was it to miss Rotterdam?

Aw man, the hardest. It broke my heart the day I got that call from my GP. I'll tell you a story I was saving for my race report. Last November I sat in the cafe in Cabinteely with Meno, we were talking about the plan, the race, the training and he asked me straight out if I thought I could handle the mileage. I thought to myself 'he doesn't think I can do this' I made it my goal to prove him wrong, every run I went on was based around that challenge (that only existed in my head!!). That one comment, which was harmless, was what drove me and I nearly succeeded but we'll never know now. Having said all that the journey was amazing, the PB's along the way and there will always be Kinvara :D

7. Dream dinner-date(ya cant pick me!!)?
If I can't pick you I don' want to eat!!! I don't know who he is but - he has a great sense of humour, he's passionate about his interests, hes probably traveled a lot, he likes to read and he can listen to others point of view and hold a discussion without turning into a full blown argument. He's kind, warm, caring and willing to help others and of course, he's a runner!

8. We all know YOU think you know a bit about Gaelic Football, favourite Dublin footballer past or present?

Ah no, I can't pick just one!!! Paul Curran just because I've shared a few beers with him, Ciaran Whelan because he's the best player never to have won an All Ireland, Jayo because well, he's Jayo!! The Brogan brothers and I've a very soft spot for Stephen Cluxton, I think he's a great captain and I love his passion for the game despite his difficulties in the limelight.

9. Tell us something we don't know about you?
I was bullied in my first year of secondary school, when I asked my mum what I should do about it she told me to be kind to them because we didn't know what difficulties they were experiencing. It's what shaped who I am now, I try never to judge, be nice to people because you don't know what pain they are in, what trauma they might be enduring etc. My mother was very lovely and very wise. I became friends with my tormentors by 2nd year.

10. Running, what has it thought you about yourself? That I am stubborn beatch! See above on the meno story :D In DCM 14 I was so ill at one point I almost walked over to a St Johns ambulance but the voice in my head said 'don't give up, keep going, it doesn't matter that you've failed at your goal time, you have to finish what you started.

aero2k A posh southside princess in self-imposed exile in Meath - crikey, that's really bonkers. Luckily you found a top-notch running club, not to mention this forum.

Thanks aero, just to clarify, I'm neither posh nor a princess :P
• Are you able to understand the locals yet, and vice versa?
Most of the locals are from Dublin so yes, its all good, occasionally though one will wander in from the fields to buy the Meath Cronicle, there are some characters among them!!

• Honda or Yamaha?
Ah here, do we have all day? Honda for reliability Yamaha for fuuuuuunnnnnnn!! It's been far too long!

• Favourite book? Movie? Movie scene? TV programme? Period drama?
No way hose, its not possible to pick one book, there are so many! I guess most recently Room by Emma Donoughe stands out, I've yet to see the movie though although I'm reading a really good thriller at the moment, but I can't say if it will be a favourite until I finish.

Movie scene? I'm not sure if you've seen it but Colin Firth's lake scene in Pride and Prejudice is well, breathtaking....

TV Programme? Made In Chelsea :D

Period Drama? Oooh all of them! I love Jane Austin so any of those movies, I loved Downton Abbey too though, I'm a sucker for a bit of 18th century romance!

• You've been kind enough to compliment my accomplishments - do you have any DIY skills of your own?
I do as it happens, I'm pretty good on the DIY and I even have a few trusted tools. When I moved into my apartment years ago I bought a fairly massive cube unit, the instructions said 'you must have two people to assemble this' really? must I?! I think not (stubborn anyone?). I succeeded in getting it up it all by my self.

• You've inspired loads of people on here - which boardsie has inspired you most?
I've inspired no one, g'wan ye messer. Crikey I don't know! Dubgal is a massive inspiration for sure and a lovely person to boot, Ososlo was our DCM 14 mentor and an inspiration on how to become Notsoslo :p Bungy girl because she works hard and always asks the best of herself. Tang for many reasons but mainly because he never gave up, you too, your marathon stories are pretty inspirational. I'm inspired by many every day on here by the hard work and dedication going on to get better at the sport we love.

• What does tang1 have on you that made you say "yes"?
You'll have to ask him that :P

• We're all delighted to see you making a good recovery from your recent illness - what has been the hardest thing to deal with over the past few weeks?
Simply not being able to run off a bad day, after the initial couple of weeks once the side affects wore off I felt fine, I felt good actually so it was very hard to stop myself from running and in the process I had to find other ways to cope with the pressures and stresses that come along.

• Desert island - Garmin, Kindle, or phone?
I'm going to say phone because it can be used to track your runs with an app and read a book with the kindle app plus all the other wonderful things it does!!

Fair play for agreeing to do this - I'll go easy on you? :D

1. You always seem to get the extra stuff done like core and stretching. How often do you do this and how do you make time for it?

2. How's the swimming coming along and does it help with the running?

3. What's the race performance to date that you have been most pleased with?

4. Favourite race?

final one.

5. Do you deliberately leave a few innuendo's in your posts for us all to hop on or is it all purely accidental? (see last post about getting it up all by yourself!! :D)

Back in Black Fair play for agreeing to do this - I'll go easy on you? :D

Thanks! I'm not sure those are easy!!

1. You always seem to get the extra stuff done like core and stretching. How often do you do this and how do you make time for it?

I don't do it enough! I try though to do it in the evenings and I make time for it by leaving something else out, usually washing the dishes post dinner or not watching the TV. These days I'm using my new standing desk as an opportunity to do some of the balancing stuff, stand one one leg for 1 min etc :p

2. How's the swimming coming along and does it help with the running?
Its coming along slowly probably because I haven't put a lot of effort into it, I love the pool and and a nice gentle 30 min swim is usually what I opt for over a session but I'll try to focus more on those now. It does help the running definitely because its a great way to ease out the muscles.

3. What's the race performance to date that you have been most pleased with?
I'd have to say Kinvara, I'm still living off the utter joy of that result. I paced it well and gave it everything, there's nothing I'd change if I could go back and do it again which is very rare in a race.

4. Favourite race?
I loved Stook! I hope I can do that again this year.

final one.

5. Do you deliberately leave a few innuendo's in your posts for us all to hop on or is it all purely accidental? (see last post about getting it up all by yourself!! :D

Considering tang had to text me to explain what TBL was going on about the other day I'm going to go with no :D.

Duanington Great choice B :-)

Great to see you're back running FD..

Thanks D!

1 - Proudest running achievement to date?
Breaking 2 hours in Kinvara, I'd made a right pigs ear of the HM distance before that and was burning my runners post RNR last August but meno convinced me I could do better - with proper training - who knew!! I'm also pretty proud of my 7:11 min mile in Stook :)

2 - Loftiest ambition running wise? Donadea 50K, I was supporting there this year and knew 5 mins after arriving someday I wanna do that. I got to run marthastews last lap with her, the whole thing was fantastic.

3 - Weakest\softest PB at the moment?
Has to be my marathon PB, it pains me too much to type it so look it up if you want to know how badly I messed up on the day!

4 - We all have sessions that we dread, what sessions put chills up your spine when you you see them on your plan?
To be honest? none really, most of the sessions in the club I don't know what they are in advance and while they're damn hard I always leave feeling I've worked hard so I don't think about the session but rather the post session feeling. On the meno plan once I'd done one MP run and enjoyed it I looked forward with relish to my Wednesday runmutes.

5 - During your recent break from running, did you wish everyone would stop logging their stupid f*cking runs every single day of the week? :D
Yes, yours was top of the list 'runmute this and runmute that' :D:D No of course not, I could just have stayed away from boards but it gives you a new perspective on things when you see people moaning about the rain or such nonsense - eh hello!!! at least you can RUN!!! :D

6 - Do you run with\without music?
Mostly without but occasionally when I need to block out the voices rubbish in my head I'll stick in the earphones and turn em up loud, I've been using them all the time on my walks but went out with no earphones for my run last night.

7 - TV\Music\Reading - list in order of time spent on each...
1) Music, all the time, I listen to it in the car, on the train to work, on the walk up to the office, the radio is on in work and now that I'm standing for a lot of the day I can bop while working too :p, when I get home in the evening the radio goes on rather than the TV. Music is a big influence on my mood and my CD collection is very eclectic indeed.
2) Reading, again on the train most days my head is in a book and I read at night before I go to sleep.
3) TV, probably an hour a day and often times not at all - it used to be about 6 hours a day! I have some programes I enjoy like The Good Wife & Greys Anatomy but I've stopped watching stuff like CSI etc as you'd be permanently glued to the TV, I haven't watched a soap in about 5 years.

8 - Favourite parkrun?
You read my log yes?! Obviously Cabinteely! The hills are alive! although Lough Key Forest park was breathtaking last weekend..

9 - When you do get yourself back up to full tilt, what does the next 12 months hold in store for Firedance? Not time wise but I find that any break from running serves to change my approach and goals ever so slightly....will you carry on as you were?
I don't honestly know, for now its just easy runs, when I get the OK to train again I'm not sure where I'll start. A clubmate of mine is having great success with the middle distance training, its an option but there's the marathon...... I'd like to learn to train as smart as I can, to push myself to the limits without going over them, I'm not sure where to start with that. Myles, don't turn your phone off :p.

Younganne;Fair play FD

Thanks Anne!! That's a lot of questions..... you know how brief I can be :D

1. What did you want to be(jobwise) when you were growing up? did you achieve this dream?
I never had a clue what I wanted to be, I knew what I didn't want though so I sort of drifted into office admin and management. Turns out I'm a jack of all trades but master of none, which comes in very handy where I am now because I turn my hand to most things. I guess I've ended up in my dream job because I can use my talents such as they are to help others. I leave work every day grateful for the life I have.

2. favourite distance?
I think possibly 10 miles, I've never done a 10 mile race I didn't enjoy (ok there's only been two in total :p)

3. if you could break one PB this year which would it be?
sub 50 10k

4. If your house was on fire and all people/animals were safe, what would be the 3 things you'd make sure you saved?? Photos (family albums and frames), my parents ashes (I kept some back), my wallet.

5 Chocolate or crisps? favorite chocolate bar, favorite crisps flavour?
Ooh can't I just put the chocolate in the crisps??! I'd have to say chocolate, my favourite is galaxy, mmmmmm, favourite crisps? Keoghs or O'Donnells cheese n onion usually.

6 if you won the Lotto Jackpot(Irish) whats the first thing you'd treat yourself to?
A new car, one of these would do nicely http://cdn.lamborghini.com/content/homepage/Lamborghini-Centenario-3-4-Front-HP-models_1920x1080.jpg
The only problem is the first thing I'd do is treat someone else first, but then I'd buy the car :D

7. How did you get into running?
I was big into kettlebells and weights and we did a bit of running as warm up's etc but I hated it, I was rubbish at it. Then when I got an iphone I downloaded the couch to 5K app and the rest as they say is history!

8. Who's the most inspirational person in your life and why?
She's not in my life any more but I have to say my mum, for so many reasons. She jumped through hoops to adopt my brother and I because she wanted children in her life (as did Dad obviously!) she was fantastic with kids and she turned those talents into a business (after school club) when my dads business wasn't going well. That so many of the kids that went through her club were at her funeral was a testament to how loved she was. She taught me to be independent, kind but strong, put other people first. I have friends and cousins alike who confided in my mother growing up, you could tell her anything. I miss her, every minute of every day.

9 (i love what your Mam told you about the bullies, so true!!) What one piece of advise would you give your 10 year old self? Put down the cake and in 3 years when Audrey offers you a cigarette, tell her no.

10 What one piece of advice would your give a new runner, that you found the most helpful and you still believe?
Slooowwww down your easy runs, I really really wish I'd known this from the start :)

11 Music - likes & dislikes??
I don't like heavy metal or hard rock. Otherwise I'm pretty open minded, I love current chart stuff and anything I can bop to so Spin 1038 is my station of choice. I love chill out music and dance music alike, I love Eminem (best gig ever!) and smoochy jazz, especially the sax (no innuendo intended!!!) my current on repeat album is First Aid Kit.

Sorry didn't mean to ask so many!!!:o

ha ha no problem!

Afternoon,

What brought you to Boards and where does Firedance come from? Hidden talent or something you've yet to try?
Are you going to mind yourself or go straight back to a plan and wipe yourself out?
What do you think now about DCM '16, standing with orange segments or racing as you had hoped?
Are you going to listen to Dr and specialist and stop googling and go easy on yourself?
When does the bike arrive?
Am sure I'll be back.
Thanks.

aquinn; Afternoon,

Thanks A :) I hope your feeling better, and taking your own advice by resting up and not pushing yourself :p:p

What brought you to Boards and where does Firedance come from? Google I guess! I joined boards in 2008, most of my posts were elsewhere on the forums asking for advice etc, my first AR post was 2013, I didn't start contributing regularly though until the novices thread in 2014, I was more than a little intimidated by all these super 'proper' runners!! Krusty frightened the bejaysus out of me and I wondered how Ecoli could know so damn much about running!!

Firedance was the colour of my last car.

Hidden talent or something you've yet to try?
I doubt I have any hidden talents. I've yet to try kayaking!! its on the list though... I'll definitely try an IMRA race, inspired by Fletch or an adventure race in the coming years. So many races, so little time... !

Are you going to mind yourself or go straight back to a plan and wipe yourself out?
I'm going to say 'yes' I'll mind myself. The good thing about here is that people will call you out on these things and I'm counting on ye to do that. It goes back to my earlier comment about learning to train smart.

What do you think now about DCM '16, standing with orange segments or racing as you had hoped?
Definitely standing with orange segments, I'm all about recovery for the rest of the year now.

Are you going to listen to Dr and specialist and stop googling and go easy on yourself? In fairness the specialist was impressed I'd done some research so if she's ok with that who am I to argue?!

When does the bike arrive? Looks like it'll be next week now  which reminds me I was meant to ring them yesterday!

Am sure I'll be back.
I'm sure you will :p

Thanks.
You're welcome, eat some soup, go back to sleep and mind yourself x

Hey FD, fantastic to see you back running.

I'll leave the more cerebral questions for everyone else :)

Bad boy crush ?
Death row meal ?
Guilty pleasure (but you may already have covered that with Made in Chelsea ) ?
How many full press ups can you do ?

Nice choice for the spotlight.

1. Dream career?

2. Suppose you won the lottery or got left a huge sum of money, what would you do with the rest of your life? :)

3. If not living in Dublin Meath, where in the world would you best like to live (no, Dublin's not allowed as the answer ...)?

4. Bucket-list race?

5. Injuries: how low would mileage have to drop over 12 months before you'd decide you'd pack in the running and look for something else to do with your time?

6. Favourite running outfit?

7. What are the main long-term changes (ie, not 3-4 years) you'd like to see in government policy to improve the long-term economy and quality-of-life in Ireland?

Bungy Girl Hey FD, fantastic to see you back running.

I'll leave the more cerebral questions for everyone else :)

Thanks G! Sorry I had to go for a wog :p

Having had my heart broken one to many times, I have absolutely no interest whatsoever in bad boys – be nice, It won’t actually kill you…..

Death row meal ? La Bucca's Beef & Asparagus pasta - no wait, their Tiger Prawn Thermidor! Can I kill two people & get two death row meals :D

Guilty pleasure (but you may already have covered that with Made in Chelsea ) ? Yeah MIC, that'll do for an answer :D

How many full press ups can you do ?
Wait, let me check...... 5 :o best get my ass (or core!) back to that pilates class!!

hillsiderunner; Nice choice for the spotlight.

Thanks M - oh golly these are tough!

1. Dream career?
Philanthropist

2. Suppose you won the lottery or got left a huge sum of money, what would you do with the rest of your life? :)
See 1 above :)

3. If not living in Dublin Meath, where in the world would you best like to live (no, Dublin's not allowed as the answer ...)?
Italy!! Possibly Venice, or Lucca, or maybe San Gimignano or Rome, or..... you get the picture :pac:

4. Bucket-list race?
I think I'll stick with Donadea 50K from an earlier answer, I know there are all these fancy races like Comrades etc but realistically that would never happen.

5. Injuries: how low would mileage have to drop over 12 months before you'd decide you'd pack in the running and look for something else to do with your time?
I'm sorry, I don't understand the question..... :D

6. Favourite running outfit?
My Longwood race t-shirt and blue shorts - what I wore last night for my first run back :)

7. What are the main long-term changes (ie, not 3-4 years) you'd like to see in government policy to improve the long-term economy and quality-of-life in Ireland?
Really? ok... I'm a bit of a political contradiction! I'm always open to other opinions but here are some of mine.
1. Education, education education. There are areas in this city (and country) that are seriously neglected, mainly IMO because those people don't vote and therefore they don't matter. We absolutely have to find a way to bring knowledge to the kids. Knowledge is power and education will give these kids the tools they need to make the right decisions and dig themselves out of what seems to be, in the main, a vicious circle.
2. Corruption / quangos/ jobs for the boys
If we could get rid of this we'd be well on the way to fixing a lot of whats wrong in this country. Irish Water is a prime example. We already had a structure in place to charge for water (councils) but instead we created a quango, paid exorbitant wages and bonuses to management and staff (before the first bills even went out!). I really hope they sort this out, most people don't object to paying for water per se but the absolute shambles that is IW was enough to enrage the masses.
3. Social Protection. I'm a big believer in giving people a hand up the ladder and there will always be those who permanently need our help, however, we are very bad at allowing our social services to be taken advantage of. Part of this goes back to the aforementioned Education. I think I like the 'Give a man fish and you feed him for a day, teach him to fish and you feed him for a lifetime' as an example of what I mean. Too many people have a sense of entitlement without ever wanting to earn what they're given.
4. Health - really, its time to chuck the baby out with the bath water and start again. If ever there was a case of too many chiefs and too few Indians this is it. Our nurses and doctors are treated so badly and so underpaid while there are suits earning big bucks to wrap things up in red tape, it makes my blood boil to think of elderly patients lying on trolleys in A&E and do not get me started on the whole private/public consultant system that's just wrong wrong wrong. My biggest pet peeve is Mental Health though, how many more people must take their own lives in this country before they change the system? WTF use is a mental health service that closes at 5pm on Friday and reopens at 9.30am on a Monday morning??!!!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE.

I think I'll leave it at that!! Now you've all seen angry Firedance :D

Hi FD some great questions and answers here.

Were is your favourite place to run?

What is your favouite/most useful pieces of Running Kit?

If you could travel back in time and were training for your first marathon what if anything would you do differently.

And Finally what if anything would you do differently on race day if you could go back and run your first marathion again.

Thanks T!

Were is your favourite place to run?
In the world? Chicago Lakeshore Trails, although the beach in Phu Quoc was pretty fandabbydozy too! In Ireland? I'd say Cabinteely/Killiney/Dalkey/Dun Laoghaire

What is your favouite/most useful pieces of Running Kit?
My Garmin (sorry DG :p)

If you could travel back in time and were training for your first marathon what if anything would you do differently?
Oh boy, you won't want to know the answer to this one given you're in the novices thread!! I wouldn't do it at all actually, I'd wait another year, build my mileage slowly, work on my shorter distance speeds before taking on the Marathon.

And Finally what if anything would you do differently on race day if you could go back and run your first marathion again?
Eh not run!!!! Ok assuming I'd trained properly and done everything above and I arrived at the start line in 2014 with the conditions we had on the day I would have
A) adjusted my target downwards to account for the heat and humidity.
B) take on more water.
C) soaked up the atmosphere and stopped concerning myself with the time and pace on my wrist.

I think I started running in 2012 but not seriously or even regularly, did a race here and a race there. I got my first garmin watch in 2013 so can only use the stats from then but if we assume I was doing an avg of 15 miles (per month!!!!) for Jan-mar of 2013 the total yearly mileage was around 217, that's YEARLY. I did my first half marathon in March 2014 and decided I'd try the marathon so I joined a club in April 2014 with that in mind - DCM was in October that year. See the table below. I made every rookie mistake in the book. When you look at my training and prep in the run up to Rotterdam there is no comparison. I hadn't a clue what I was doing (clearly) but I wouldn't necessarily have listened to anyone if they'd said 'do you think you should wait' :D. Hindsight is indeed a great thing!!

I'll give you the first one but the horsey set here would beg to differ :p I recently had to explain to a friend why the father of a potential boyfriend of her daughters asked them how many acres they had (apparently a big no no in the country!). The answer of course is that size is of the utmost important to a Southsider (I feel the need to point out, again, no innuendo!)

I got one of those Instamatic cameras when I was a teenager so yes, I've always had an interest, I have a very good cannon actually that I bring if I'm going away although, as I bought that in NYC a few years ago I think my current smartphone is probably as good as the camera now!

None really at the moment, recover fully first and then we'll see. I'm planning to take part in the Clew Bay Half in September but if I'm running 13 miles by then I'll just be jogging the race purely for enjoyment purposes and to meet up with some of my favourite boardsies :p

ha ha, you're up next so!!

Film of your life - who'd play you?
Apparently I look like Heather from Fair City, but if I'm getting to choose then Julia Roberts :pac: I reckon we have the same filthy laugh :D

What's the best race report you've read on boards?

Aw man, so many to choose from! Krusty's are always a great read, I voted for aero2k's DCM report in the end of year awards and I stand by that, Dubgal wrote a phenomenal report recently however, I'm going to say tang1's Rotterdam report, I had to put off reading it for a week because I knew it would make me cry and I wasn't wrong.

Other than the old thyroid, have you had any injuries that have stopped you from running before?
What you mean you haven't gone back and read my log from the start?! :p yes, I had a bad bout of plantar fasciitis last year that had me out for 6 weeks. I still get the odd twinge but I know the cause and can get it under control fairly quickly again.

Have you read any running books?
Yes, most recently The Runners Guide to the Meaning of Life and Eat & Run by the ultra runner Scott Jurek, I'd recommend them both actually and that reminds me I never returned them to tang... oops!

Do you regularly read any running magazines/websites/blogs/twitter accounts?
My Facebook news feed is mostly running related stuff, Womens Running, Irish Runner, Athletics Ireland etc etc etc. I do have twitter but rarely bother with it. I don't follow any running blogs, I keep meaning to list to Marathon Talk but never get around to it!

Best & worst subjects in school?
Oh that's easy, best subjects English and History, adored both, still do. I still read the classics and used to borrow my brothers english books back in the day as he was in a different year so had different books. I also have a fair number of Irish History books in my reading collection.
Worst subjects? Maths (ugh) and Art, I can't draw a straight line and what, prey tell is the point of signs and cosigns??!

Anto you're a brat :pac: I've never forgiven you for running off into the sunset in DCM 14 without even a glance back #worstpacerever :D Having said that if you're looking for help for Donadea I'd love to help out :)

Runni g in the rain or the sun?
Both, sorry I know that's not really an answer but as much as I enjoy running on a nice sunny day there are times when there is nothing better to be out in the pouring rain too, I guess it depends on my mood at the time.

Wats the interest in bikes?
I'm a broken runner, don't we all turn to bikes?! or do you mean motorbikes? if its the later I used to own one :) in my youth! 3 of my exes were bikers. I spent a lot of time travelling across the country riding pillion, mainly going to dubs matches in the back arse of no-where

Blade or an R1?
I've never ridden pillion on either so can't say from a performance POV, I'd say there's not much in them though - for looks? the blade is a very sexy machine that turns my head every time. Are you a biker too??

Can u bake?
I can, I'm not bad either :p in fact, I'd say my chocolate cake is better than yours...

Free entry into donade50k or a date with meno?
See above comment about you being a brat.... Lets see, on the one hand its Donadea, the race to beat all races(!) on the other hand meno, the best boardsie ever - its a tough choice I will admit, however, as I'm on a self imposed dating ban (as in, never a fu*king gain) I'll have to go with the free entry to Donadea and just make do with coffee in the cafe after parkrun :pac: :pac:

Thanks Anna, I think you should go back out for another run & come back with those questions then :D

Most embarrassing running moment?
I don't think I have one, apart from being rubbish time wise!! I've never had a Paula Radcliffe moment or tripped or had a wardrobe malfunction so I guess I've been lucky! Wait till you see, next time I go running something really embarrassing will happen.. :p

Do you think the marathon training was a factor in causing your recent illness? No, I can say that with confidence now having seen the specialist, her clinical diagnoses is Graves Disease, if anything my brothers accident in December/Jan is more likely a cause as 'emotional trauma' is one possibility, however, she feels its probably hereditary. Not having a right to my medical history records (because we so god damn backwards in this bloody country!) means I can never know for sure but no, it wasn't meno's plan :D

What was your obsession before running?
Weight lifting and kettle bells :) before that? smoking & drinking :pac:

Best and worst sporting experience from your youth?
I was not at all sporty as a kid. My brother played soccer, GAA and cycled across the country with my cousins, me? I read! I do vaguely remember going to school sports days and taking part in egg and spoon races. In secondary school I was on the B basketball team which was actually a complete hoot as the pressure was off us, I have fond memories of lots of laughter and giggles on the bus travelling to/from matches. I don't ever remember winning anything although the A team were quite good.

Are you ever offline??? :p
See aero's dig in the ribs comment above about my 'beloved smartphone' Rarely. I had planned a boards holiday as I wasn't sure I could manage without tang for a few weeks but the fecker forced me to do this before he rode off into the sunset - maybe next week!!!

Great choice!!

Here are a few questions, hopefully not repeating anything from earlier.

1. What is your pre-race routine? And are you very set in stone with it or does it not matter much?

2. What difference has being in a club made to your running?

3. Favourite recovery snack/meal?

I might be back wth more...

spaceylou;99794864]Great choice!!

Here are a few questions, hopefully not repeating anything from earlier.

Thanks L! Hope you got out for a nice slooow long run :)

1. What is your pre-race routine? And are you very set in stone with it or does it not matter much?

I try to do a few AIS stretches, mainly calf, foot and hamstring and a couple of drills, especially if its a longer run, or one with any speed in it, depends on tight I am for time though and also how the legs are feeling. I'm better at doing these when I can feel an old injury on the horizon..

2. What difference has being in a club made to your running?

Well, for one thing, when you're wearing that singlet in a race its not just about you anymore, there's no hiding with club race reports and all eyes on your finish time!! So I guess it spurs me on to do better. I've never DNF'd in a race but wearing the singlet makes that even less likely. I haven't actually done a club session in quite a while as my marathon training didn't fit with them. I love taking part in the XC races and being part of a team, its a whole other level of joy despite the mud and the wet and how damn hard they are :D I'd heartily recommend it if you're thinking that way yourself. I've made some great friends in the club too.

3. Favourite recovery snack/meal?

During marathon training after a long run or a session I'd usually go for yogurt & mixed nuts. It contains everything you need. Another option is peanut butter on a rice cake or straight out of the jar! It's best to eat something light & protein dense like this within 20 mins of a hard session or long run as it helps the muscles recover more quickly.

I might be back with more.

cool :)

I said Fireblade didn't I?? you had one too? crikey all the old bikers are coming out of the woodwork now!!! anyone else??! We should have a boards bikers run!

Racing.... Road racing or track/circuit racing??

Road racing, hands down. Have been to a few of the Skerries 100 a few times although regrettably never made the Isle of Man TTs. My first time there we were sitting on a wall on the course, the bikes came around the corner so fast and so close I fell backwards, into a potato field, the white jeans I was wearing got filthy  Well, I am a princess after all :pac: I learned very quickly bikes and white jeans just don't go!!

Do you have any ambition of getting the leg over again like I do?? :D

We're talking bikes here Marty lest anyone get any other ides! oh yes I do indeed. Last time I was on a bike was in Vietnam a few years ago, we did a trip from Hue to Hoi An over a mountain, at one point we were actually in the clouds, it was heaven on earth. I'm happy to ride pillion but its been so long since I drove one I'm not sure I'd remember how.. the ole balance is not what it once was :D

2. Running...

(You dismissed comrades earlier, never, ever, say never :D:D )
How bad did you feel when you found out Tang bought your Rotterdam T shirt in a cheap sleezy market for €3 :D ?????

Actually (if that's what he did, he hasn't admitted it yet) I was really really touched, he still insists that's the t-shirt they gave him at the expo though and as he also collected my number and the race bag I'm inclined to believe him. When I did the Milan marathon relay the t-shirts were different colours depending on the size you choose so....

Have you thought of a (kind of) target marathon down the line that you want to make your comeback. 2017 is good, just something like "I'm gonna have a right go at cork 2017") ????

Cork??? CORK??? Hold on there now, BiB wan'ts me to go to Cavan and now you think I should go to CORK?? Lads, like, you know I'm a Dub right??!! Although my grandad was from Ballyvourney cough cough (but then my grandmother was from Pomery but sush don't tell meno :D) Unfortunately tangs' beaten you to it and I've ever so lightly, penciled in Barcelona 2017..

3. Life......

I really, I mean REALLY, like the values you have had instilled in you from a young age... Truly things everyone should live life like...

But, I know there are those who don't give a **** about formal education....
Travellers.... Ethnic minority, hard done by, robbing ****ers, or just a different culture???

When I said education I didn't necessarily mean formal education, it doesn't work in many cases as you've eluded to there. Learning should be fun - its a fair few years since I've been in primary school but I believe its quite different these days, they've yet to radically change secondary school though and that's where we loose a lot of those disadvantaged kids. If there was a way to find out what they are good at, or what holds their attention and then concentrate on teaching them that rather than trying to fit everyone into a square hole as we do we might make some progress. Regarding the travelling community, yes definitely an ethnic minority and like lots of ethnic minorities we need to take the time to understand what their needs are and how we as a society can help meet those needs. Its all too easy to dismiss them. Sure there are bad apples among them but there are bad apples among us all. There are even some bad runners out there...

The " new " government.... new, or same " old " ****e???

Unfortunately, same old sh*te :( I don't know what the answer is though, I don't think a FF majority would be any better and we don't want a bunch of ex(?) terrorists running the country. Barrack will be out of a job soon, maybe he'd consider 'coming home'!

Work......

Do you steal stationary :D

Well, as I work from home occasionally, and sometimes in the evenings and sometimes at weekends (I got a work call in the middle of a race once!! of course I answered it :p I don't carry my phone in races any more!!!) I may have the odd piece of stationary in the house...

*I had to delete some of your smilies and mine as you're only allowed 15 in one post.... as aquinn would say *sake*

This must be the most polite way I've ever heard someone say ''Not even if he was the last man on earth."

Had some beer last night alright, There was a super buzz around Galway after Connaught game :)

Have an ol' blade, dry stored in heated shed/office while now while I sort out some stuff.
She's a 1996 but clean/original and very little mileage. Hoping to be on the road before year end...

Biker, eh? Used to have one of these myself. :p

You're in a big club, as I remember from the number of ye running the Raheny 5. What sort of coaching is available for runners in your bracket and has it made any difference to your approach?

Cheers!

I think you and I have had this conversation before but okay, I'll play. Most of the other runners 'in my bracket' are in our Fit for Life group, however, the times didn't suit me when I joined so I rocked up to the seniors. I was made to feel very welcome by the other runners so I stayed. The coaching is mostly geared towards our faster crew and whatever races they are targeting but someone like me can only benefit from running with faster people provided I learn to run at my own paces. In the beginning I tried to keep up with everyone else and I got injured. I've only approached for coaching advice once at TBH didn't get great feedback so I wouldn't do it again but we have some excellent runners who are only too willing to pass on their advice (a bit like here) so I don't feel I'm loosing out on anything. I do think the club would benefit from a middle group though for those who are not quite at Senior level but that would like to break from the FFL ethos and we could drop the 'marathon only' focus from July-October every year too. Having said that, you're mostly relying on volunteers who give up their time and for the fee you pay we're doing okay. As I said in a previous response, even wearing the singlet is a big mental advantage in a race so even with those very minor issues I would prefer to be in the club than out.
