Once they have dodgy dealings in South African Krugerrands in it that will save it :pac:

I think they got the tone right.

It's easy to forget why Riggs was so unhinged in the movies (even more so after the first one), so it's good to see that as a part of the TV show.

    I'm cautiously optimistic.

Yeah, looks good and looks like it'll be based around the first movie, I like that the wife is going to be killed in an accident rather than part of a bit conspiracy that fits into a second movie.

ah now that can still be worked in. they *knew* she would be driving there and made it look like an accident

Wayans is horribly miscast anyway IMO. Can't they just leave well enough alone?

I'm usually fairly aware of new shows on the horizon, but I didn't know this was even a thing. Yikes. I think Fox have vastly overestimated the source of Lethal Weapon's appeal: not so much Riggs and Murtagh the characters, but the fantastic chemistry between Gibson and Glover that propelled the series. An example of absolute perfect casting. Watching a pair of budget-range equivalents lollop around what is likely to be a standard procedural, mixed with the inevitable conspiracy arc, doesn't have me giddy with anticipation

ITV have picked it up in the UK.

I can't remember the last time I saw a big US show on a primetime ITV schedule.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,862 ✭✭✭✭inforfun

    Might give it a go.
I just always have a hard time to see a new actor doing an old role.

    Riggs = Mel Gibson
    Murtaugh = Danny Glover

I don't think I'll be able to give this a go.

If it gets rave reviews I'll probably change my mind but for me it's Gibson and Glover or nobody*

*not including the boys from Always Sunny of course

Oh yeah, i can see myself binge watch the movies after watching 1 episode of the tv-series.
Or was my eyes with bleach

BBC made the same mistake recently with Top Gear

It's not the cars or the scenery (fantastic though both often are) that's the draw for the audience.. it's the genuine friendship between Clarkson, Hammond and May. The whole show/brand is the bond between the 3 of them and messing about with cars.

The collapse in ratings and Chris Evans being effectively forced to quit after 6 episodes have shown that changing the cast on such a show just doesn't work, and I'd expect this latest reboot to go the same way.

Awful awful awful pilot and what seemed to be a 40 minute ad for iWatch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,862 ✭✭✭✭inforfun

    Ok....

Well since i very recently watch all 4 of the movies in 1 night, i ll give this a pass then.

    Thanks for the warning

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,146 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

Have it on here now and it's both awful and completely unnecessary IMO.. struggling to watch the end of it to be honest

.. annnnd I won't be bothering with EP2. Wayans is playing the character from My Wife and Kids, they're needlessly "re-imagining" or replaying scenes or lore from the films, and it's just really bad!

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators, Regional Midwest Moderators Posts: 24,036 Mod ✭✭✭✭Clareman

I kind of enjoyed it to be honest, it setup the characters as different from the movies and showed how they get together as partners, clearly not a patch on the movies but as a cop show it's not bad.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 73 ✭✭TheCockpitGuy

God awful ****e!!! Really really bad but the ratings in the US suggest otherwise. However I think further checking with show that they are mostly Trump supporters. I see these ratings drop quicker than a girl's knickers at freshers week!!!!!

I agree with this, cheesy as hell but nowhere near as bad as I had been expecting from the comments here. Definitely rough around the edges but has enough going for it that I'm happy to see where it goes. Even in the first episode, improves dramatically in the space of 45 minutes. Some of the best shows I've seen tend to have rocky starts - this may not amount to anything in the end, but for now willing to give it the benefit of the doubt.

Will be giving this series a go. Can see why they made the casting choices they did and while it tried to follow the source material there were some noticeable deviations. Just hope they move beyond the rest of the movies to explore new areas.

    Only one gripe. Rigg's
reason for not going through with killing himself.
That for me just stank and wasn't true to the character at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,672 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

I liked it but not sure if I'll keep watching.
How long until it's revealed that the wife's death wasn't an accident?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,272 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

I gave the second episode ago and it's a lot better than the pilot still not a great show but i'll be honest enough to say it was enough for me to give episode 3 a go.

I watched the Last Boy Scout the other night and man Damon Wayans hasn't aged a day in 25 years.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

Second episode was very solid - shaping up to be a great show with very well cast characters. And I agree- Damon Wayans looks a few years old than The Last Boy Scout at most, despite it being a quarter of a century old!

That was a really nice moment alright, hopefully they don't have her hooking up with Riggs.

If this wasn't linked to the movies it'd be a good show, I'd prefer if there was a overarching season storyline rather than crime of the week.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

I think it's shaped up excellently, Damon Wayans both makes and carries it in my opinion - nothing wrong with Riggs having said that, on the contrary he's a very good choice too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,272 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

This has turned into a really fun cop show and I do look forward to watching the new episodes.

As above its Wayans presence that carries the show but the rest of the cast hold their own with him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,862 ✭✭✭✭inforfun

Decied to give it a go.
While it is nowhere near my top 10 of favourite series, it is actually not bad at all.

Just still miss Glover screaming: Riiiiiiiiigggggggs

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators, Regional Midwest Moderators Posts: 24,036 Mod ✭✭✭✭Clareman

It's not a bad police procedural and they've done a great job of introducing the characters and building a team.

Another top notch episode it really is turning into a fun cop show.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,356 ✭✭✭Heckler

Was dubious about this one but its turning out pretty good.

Riggs' boot and pants thing was bugging the hell outta me till the episode where Murtaugh says (paraphrasing) "I don't know why he does that thing with the pants".

Might happen yet but I like that they're not toning down Riggs' drinking and suicidal tendencies.

And Wayans is a pleasant surprise. Some good comedic scenes. Retains the spirit of the original I think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,015 ✭✭✭Ludo

I was going to ignore this one but on the back of the last few posts here I gave it a go. Up to episode 6 now and enjoying it. Much better than I thought it would be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,272 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Another good episode in the development of Riggs and great flirting between Murtaugh and his new partner for the episode haha

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,862 ✭✭✭✭inforfun

This series is so much better than i expected it to be. My expectations though, were spectacularly low.
Actually enjoying it quite a bit.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

Huh, strange to be reading the positive comments: I only caught the first episode and TBH found it like a fan film with a slightly higher budget; nothing really grabbed me & I was left with a feeling of "What's the point of this?". The new Riggs and Murtagh were game all right, but just couldn't hold a candle to Gibson & Glover's natural gruffy charisma. There wasn't even a broader plot hook to bring me back, odd for modern serialised TV.

So for those of us who tried it and went "Thanks but I'll watch the films again instead", what has made this show worth persisting with?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,862 ✭✭✭✭inforfun

If you have seen my earlier comments at the start of this thread i was completely against the idea of this series.
    Only expected complete failure.

Probably helps that i enjoy it now when the only expectation i had, was that i would hate it.
Only started watching it because i had nothing else to watch and at that point i had 6 or 7 episodes available to watch.
Dont think i would have stuck with it if i only had the pilot violable at that point. That wasnt the best episode to put it mildly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,171 ✭✭✭BobMc

I'm enjoying it, watch it with my 12yr old son, and while its not the same calibur as the movies, its good entertainment

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,621 ✭✭✭smilerf

    I m really liking this
Only negative is that Cruz guy
Really wooden acting not to mention his scrawny body and he looks filthy with the dirt

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,862 ✭✭✭✭inforfun

And he was exactly that in American Crime as well.
