Wife has some One4all vouchers and we're gonna pick up a tablet. Whats the best one around €200 in a bricks and mortar store? Ideally would like one that takes USB stick which can play movies for the kids while travelling. So Android probably best for this. 10" might suit better also.Looked at Argos,Currys,DID,Harvey Norman, theres lots out there but I need advice as to which would be best

Linx 10/10 ticks all the boxes.
Runs Windows 10 , has Office apps pre-installed and free keyboard
Personally not a fan of the Samsung Galaxy stuff , if going for Android youll pick up two similar spec devices for same price

Back from a few pints and seems a lot more expensive in the south? im sure with a bit of searching youll find it sub 200, i can hardly see

Do you have one? Or is it just a better all round tablet, spec wise?

Not really comparable ... 7", 1GB RAM. The Lenovo above is 10" with double the RAM.

Nexus 2013 Android, 7" but with a full 1920x1080 display which most others in this price range don't have.

Would this have the latest updates?

You would just update to latest android version yourself.

Argos seems to have Nexus2013 on sale regularly both 16/32gb, sometimes can avail of the 10% back voucher if that's running also.
Only minor criticism is the battery isn't as good as an ipad and have to take care of the usb port, some reports of failure if used harshly.

The Lenovo seems much the same only newer.

The 32gb would be handy though. The age of the nexus battery and os would be a factor for me.

Just looking at the Lenovo Tab 2 A10, looks good 1920x1200 IPS.
One advantage is the memory is expandable slots up to 64gb.

The Nexus size tabelts though are handy for travel and putting in suit jacket pockets.

Is the nexus only 7"? Is there a bigger version? We're looking for a 9" or 10" with expandable memory so that's why a10 seems to suit. But I'm still open to suggestions as we haven't bought just yet!

The nexus is a 'Phablet', ideal for travel and portability.

If you need 10" 'Tablet' with memory expand-ability then Lenovo Tab 2 A10 etc looks good due to HD, and may be on sale currently in argos etc.

Just bought the 16GB storage one on Amazon for 102GBP. Great price. Had the older Nexus 7 for the kids and they were great while they lasted (they broke the power connectors after a couple of years from yanking the cable - could probably fix if I knew how).

Have tried all sorts of cheap tabs down the years and you cant beat the quality of a Nexus. Had to return a Chinese 10" tab that had a great spec as they screen kept acting like it was touched all on its own. Lesson learned and I will never go away from a quality brand again.

The USB connection on the original Nexus 7 is easy to replace, the most difficult part is getting the right size screw driver to remove the screws, some of them are pretty tight so you can end up rounding them off or breaking other pieces in a fit of anger. I wouldn't blame the kids on doing the damage though, it's a common issue with them.

Argos are selling the 16gb version for €129.99 these days, might be a couple of euro cheaper than Amazon considering the exchange rates etc.

Phablet would be a tablet with cellular connectivity, no?

well 'Phablet' sized, is the Nexus.

Plenty can be bought very cheaply 2nd hand, with the usb issue if you can fix yourself.
Young wan may well prefer the larger tablets to play their games, movies and candy crush wotnot.

Must say having been an iPad user, the Android OS is much better, iTunes software is pure cr@p.
Aside that is from all the privacy issues with many of the apps wanting full access to your details.

Bought the tab 2 a10 from argos on Sunday, very impressed so far. Quick, brilliant screen, decent sound. Just waiting on case & sd cards from Amazon now.
Only thing is I can't find an option for multiple users. So when I log into Gmail, I can see my wife's Gmail account also. Is there am option to set up different user accounts?

Thanks for tip on replacing USBs on old Google Nexus. Got two parts off eBay and replaced on kids 2012 Nexus 6 and hey presto back in action. Feels like 2 new tablets for 10GBP

Sigh... Look at the date of that article.
Fragmentation "was" an issue before Google and indeed many of the manufacturers decoupled their apps from the OS and moved them into the play store.

All devices from Android 5 and up use the same Android webview updated every 6 weeks through the Play store - about 70% of apps use the webview for rendering.
The Android browser that each manufacturer shipped is replaced by Chrome which is updated every 6 weeks through the Play store. Yes some manufacturers might still have their own browser, but it is based on Chromium like Chrome and updated accordingly.

There are now very few apps remaining on the OS, clock, calendar, calculator, contacts, dialer, camera, network connectivity, gmail, chrome browser, youtube, maps, search, docs/sheets/slides, even google launcher... All updated via the Play store NOT via OS, so they have nothing to do with manufacturer.

It was all so different before lollipop...

The issue being discussed that a version of the OS which has profiles doesn't have them on this manufacturers version on this tablet.

Its not an app. Its part of the OS.
