I bought a load of these last year so can vouch for quality. All are still fully functional. 1.5 metres too so a bit longer than the apple ones.

Usual Aldi 3 year warranty and Made for iPhone certified too so no worries on that score.

MicroUSB also available for lesser phones.

No doubt these Aldi cables are good, but I thought I'd mention these Anker cables too:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-Braided-Tangle-Free-Gold-Plated-Connectors/dp/B00SUX2IPE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1463090766&sr=8-1&keywords=anker+usb+cable

A bit more expensive, and usually something you'd throw in your basket when you're ordering something else, but they are fantastic. The problem with long, lower quality cables is that the charge time is increased. These cables don't have that problem.

+1 on the Anker charging products, robust and quick to charge !

Got one these as Christmas ,lasted a month , customer service was good , they send me a replacement , again only lasted 4-6 weeks before it stopped charging, that seems to be my experience with any non apple cables in general , but i will prob pick one of these up in Aldi to try , thanks OP.

Very surprised by this. Anker are bullet proof IMO. Never had any issues with any of their stuff I've purchased over the years.

They seem to have dropped off the site, but are listed here:

    https://www.offerscheck.org/phone-charger-cables/aldi/2016/kw-18/285730

There were plenty in my local Aldi yesterday - I picked up another 2.

As regards the Anker cables, looking at the recent reviews on Amazon it looks like the quality may have dropped off recently as most of the latest reviews are poor. I do rate the Anker stuff though - I have a gaming mouse that's fantastic.

    Nope,

I've had issues with their cables from Amazon recently also....

And not for an Idevice, just long Android cable's...

I picked up a good 1m braided USB micro cable from Heatons for €5 a week or two ago. Specifically mentioned high/fast charging.

I've an Elephone P7000 phone with a 3450mAh battery, and it charges that well.

Same. Used to buy nothing but Anker but have had issues with their cables failing recently.

Jesus, I'm genuinely surprised. I've 2 6' i-cables in my basket. Might give it a miss now!

Here is some of the comment i got back at the time from Anker :

    >We are terribly sorry that your cable does not work fine. Although we work hard to ensure high quality standards through multiple quality tests, we regrettably still come across defective products occasionally.

Got one at Christmas , and one in Feb , unfortunately both now non functional

I tested the aldi cables in last years thread, they were piss poor!! 0.5 amp max.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,175 ✭✭✭Doge

How about the Anker Kevlar Fibre cables?

Anyone have any issues with those?

Have only for my iPad Air about half a year now with fast charge and no issues, as robust as you'll get.

How did you test them? I get a full charge in around an hour with an iPad charger.

Do they not have a warranty on them?

I ask because I'd like to return my own.

Im fairly sure I contacted them via Amazon website where i bought , they replaced the first one , they just sent out a replacement , didnt actually return it as i mentioned their customer service was v good , i never really got around to returning/complaining about the second , i guess i had lost faith in them at that stage. Not sure what the terms of warranty are though , maybe it is only 30 days via Amazon , might need to contact them directly after that.

You'll have zero issues returning to Amazon / Anker for refund or replacement.

I just checked, it was these ones and they have an 18 month warranty. Nice.

Please tell me there has been an update/recent discovery to sort out the "battery instantly dies at 40%" problem

    Thanks in advance.

Have been using a cable I got in Penneys for €1.50 for the iPhone 5c for the last 2 1/2 months with no problems, and charges much quicker than using Apple charger

    Not a chance.

Honestly, it does. Might sound ridiculous but it charges much quicker using the cheapo Penneys cable (through a Nokia plug) than it does the actual Apple charger my boyfriend has, just my experience.

A penneys cable and a nokia plug will not charge an iphone quicker than an OEM cable and a 1A USB plug. If it does, then the latter (cable or plug) is defective and should be binned.

Fair enough, was just offering my experience of what I thought was a bargain for a cable that does the job.

I would be wary about associating power output with USB 2 or 3 etc. Many are dedicated chargers that aren't to any spec. Also the specs have changed over time.
Battery Charging Specification 1.2:[28] Released in December 2010.
Several changes and increasing limits including allowing 1.5 A on charging ports for unconfigured devices, allowing High Speed communication while having a current up to 1.5 A and allowing a maximum current of 5 A.

You've also got different quick charging standards.

Saying something is USB 2 or 3 is a bit misleading when it comes to charging.

The only way to know is to test the charger and cable with a tester. Then your device to see is it compatible.

I'm guessing the Nokia plug has a higher amp. A cable (cheap or otherwise) won't have any effect on the charging speed.

Won't sidetrack the thread too much, but I had a lot of firmware problems at first, including them shipping an Android launcher that included malware.
But eventually found a firmware image that mostly works for me just fine.

"DeepFlex" is a developer for Elephone and makes a variety of ROMS.

    Elephone P7000 ROM links

    Mine firmware version says
    Baseband version : MOLY.LR9.W1423.MD.LWTG.MP.V20.P 2015/06/15 09:49
    Build number "Elephone P7000 DCUv12.0"
    Custom build version : ALPS.L0.MP6.V3.8_EVEN6752.LWT.L

But it's quite acceptable as an everyday phone for me.
    Battery life 1-2 days.

But there's plenty of ROMS to try on the official Elephone site.
Best keep this conversation to the Android forum I imagine

Does for me. Using different quality cable with the same charger, and device changes the charging speed and current.

I started testing when I noticed my desktop 2.4a charger was very slow. Turns out it was fauly. I've bunch of other chargers so I went through them all. So I went through all my cables and chargers. I found the best ones, and dumped the bad ones. My best ones are the Samsung 1A and 2A charges. The 2A I suspect is quick charge compatible with my phone, its far faster than even my other 2.4 chargers. The best cables tended to be the really thick branded ones.

Some devices I have don't charge any faster even with a better charger. So pointless using fast charger on them.

A longer cable will have a higher impedance and so will take longer to charge (all other things being equal).
