Young Michael O Loughlin also riding with team Wiggins I think, unless something has changed in the last few days. Bit of a baptism of fire for him but will be interesting to see how he gets on.

Big crash already ...many riders down

Don't seem to want to let the break go #TDY Wiggins way back already in a small bunch

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,256 ✭✭✭MPFGLB

In fact a few groups all over the road

I can't wait for the women's race tomorrow!
Lizzie Armitstead starting from her home town in Otley will make for a great atmosphere, also Otley CC is the club I cycle with when I'm home :)

I've been trying to find a starting list of all the women cycling but can only find a general list of the 17 women's teams.
If anyone finds a list of names will they put up the link - thanks.

Peter Kennaugh pulling the peloton already

    The longest retirement ever?
Wiggins states he might cycle the tdYorkshire and tour of Britain again next year!
59th last year and just cycling for the enjoyment in this race, great position to be in.
He's no 31 and cycling at the back of the bunch today.
Very rainy, cold, windy, depressing looking race so far. Thankfully massive cheering crowds in each of the little villages to lighten the mood.

Wouldn't mind Wiggo riding on if he was just more accommodating ...didn't even turn up for press conference or spoke to journos at the start

He is like some sort of grumpy figurehead

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,256 ✭✭✭MPFGLB

Someone from SKY needs to attack before the end as what is the point of having 6 riders sitting on the front alongside Cleb Ewan

Also Yorshire could have had a more rolling terraine today ...needed to be harder

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,256 ✭✭✭MPFGLB

And they have put the pressure down and split the peloton

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,256 ✭✭✭MPFGLB

Strong attack again by Cummings but a little early

Good win by Groenewegen but Ewan boxed in and looked strongest

SKY tactics a bit funny...riding on the front all day ? but no one to lead Van Poppel out

Why work at the front all day ? at least have a rider attack in the last 5 KM ..they had enough riders ot chose from

'a horrible, horrible day to be cycling' said Boardman.
    Wasn't that bad :P
Disappointment for the crowds that Wiggo dropped out midway through today's stage.

Women's TdY race in totality is being shown now on Eurosport2 8.30am-12.

Well I say totality, for the last 15 mins they've unfortunately lost contact and having to watch the men's race from yesterday.

Some plane or other had landed and needs to take off again and so blocking coverage of women's race

Wonder who the plonker is in the plane ?

Seemingly the plane who relays the pictures cannot take off ...Not sure if problem is particular to said plane or if its a general isssue in the area

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,277 ✭✭✭MB Lacey

It's really disappointing given that there's so little coverage of women's cycling on tv.
Last month I was so sure Eurosport would show the women's race in Flanders seeing as the cameras etc were there anyway for the men's race, but no, nothing, there was no coverage anywhere, not even online.
So to have Eurosport show the whole of the women's race today was great!
Seems typical they've lost coverage for last half hour and they're showing some men's race from Chorley.
Thy could at least show some other women's cycling from the vaults.

He's a Lancastrian - clearly biased, and not paying proper attention to God's Own County......

    :pac:

2 hours in and still no coverage or women's cycling being shown in place.

I'm thinking Peter Kennaugh cut the camera cables so all eyes could stay focused on his races and him alone.
Not that he's self centred or anything.
I mean who wants to see Emma Pooley racing round Yorkshire against Armitstead after all ?

Explanation of technical issues around relaying pictures

But I do blame France air traffic control as cannot get a replacement as they are on strike AGAIN

Epic TV fail today, makes the coverage of the Tour of Murcia look like an Oscar winning production. World most expensive womens race ever and we see none of it, now the men's has cut out for good as well.

I think they might have been a little bit premature giving that knighthood to Gary Verity!

Gary Verity is swanning around in a car like the queen with Prudhamme beside him like de Gaulle

How hard is it to ensure you have a backup plan

Is there only one plan in the whole of UK with relay equipment ?

Cycling is a TV sport...Sponsors and Towns on the route paid money to 'host' the event ...but only to get international TV coverage

If I were Otley and Doncaster I'd be looking for a refund from ASO

All kicking off at TDY ...Good break with Haas trying to get away ...could be dangerous

The crowds are unbelievable on the roads ...if only 1% continue to watch cycling after this that would be alot of people

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,256 ✭✭✭MPFGLB

10 Riders in the break with some strong riders

Big teams cannot let them go I'd say

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,256 ✭✭✭MPFGLB

sky driven echelons have blasted the peloton at the top of that climb..Yates: Pauwels, Kruiswijk and SKY (5 riders ) left

Excellent Stage, this could make an amazing one day race, brutal climbs, great scenery, crosswinds, we could do something very similar around Wicklow, no difference between the Moores we see here and the landscape up the top of Sally Gap and surrounds.

Edit: Big shout out to the crowds, huge crowds out even if the weather is pretty crappy, like a queen stage of a Grand Tour in terms of local support!

Yes there needs to be a 3/4 day Tour in Ireland ...maybe from East Cork up the V then on to Waterford /Wexford and then Wicklow with a sprint on final day into Dublin

Its takes us over 2 months to sort out a government we wouldd never be able to decide a decent route.
