Does anybody know what is happening with Anytime Fitness Kilmainham. The club opened a few weeks ago but has now temporarily closed. Before it closed they were doing a hard sell trying to get people to sign up before the club opened. I didn't take up the offer and boy am I glad!

Does anyone know when the club will open again and has anyone else had any experience they want to report regarding Anytime Fitness Kilmainham?

This place appears to be open again. I've been past it a few times this week and noticed people in there using the machines. It's very quiet though. Max people I've seen was 2-3. Not sure if they have it staffed though.

It is back open, I went for a trial last week. It's staffed 9-5 daily with 9-9 on some days I think.

Brass tacks first: ~€40 per month, €100 signup fee offering 24 hour access. A free trial is offered but the hard sell is immense so beware if you're just looking to give it a quick go. I had to spend about 20/30 mins with the guy before I got to work out between registering my details then a cringeworthy Q&A about my diet, lifestyle, goals etc. The rep was trying his best to make it sound important but it all smacks of a management that forces their staff to stick to the script.

If all you need is a treadmill/rowing machine, you're sorted here but I can't recommend it for the price if weights are what you're looking for.

Weights wise, it's a joke. One cable machine and three free-weights stands/benches that are WAY too close together to be safely used at the same time. If they're all in action there's an accident waiting to happen if someone loses their balance.

Otherwise, that's it, no frills here. There's no live classes (but there's videos to follow if you want) and there's no pool or even a sauna.

For €20 p/m it'd be ok but the local competition is better value. The Hilton gym is just around the corner for similar money with a pool (~50), Ultimate in Inchicore, Your Fitness in Harold's X or a bit further away is Ben Dunne's two places in Jervis or Terenure a short distance away for a third of the amount.

Herberton Leisure in Rialto / Fatima is also an option and better than all the other ones mentioned.

Thanks, never heard of that one. What's the free weights like? Does it be busy much?

The free weights is decent. 3 or 4 power racks, plenty of dumbells, 2 prowlers and loads of treadmills. Plus the benefit of pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. I've never done any of their classes but there's plenty going on and they're very popular.

It can be busy at peak times though. Search them on Facebook and drop in and see.

I contacted them a few weeks ago with a few enquiries and found them very aggressive. They wouldn't answer my questions and kept looking for my phone number and promised the manager would be back on to me. They invited me in for a tour and a free session, which I could tell would just be a lengthy sales pitch. I gave them my email address and didn't hear a thing back!

As for the Hilton, I contacted them in the past about costs etc and they wouldn't give me any details over the phone or via email. Again, they wanted to bring me in to give me a full tour etc. Again, I told them I had no interest in the pitch, but was very likely to join if they just gave me their price list as I had stayed there before and was aware of the facilities. Again, they seemed more interested in guarding their price plan rather than gaining a member.

This is a great gym. Clean and the equipment is in good shape. The staff is friendly and helpful if you have any questions. But the best part, by far, is that it isn't crowded!
