Pillows

I need new pillows. I used always buy the regular 2 pack of pillows from Dunnes, but the last few times I've replaced pillows, I've bought the orthopaedic 2 pack from Dunnes, because their regular pillows seemed way thinner. Now, I'm finding even the orthopaedic ones thin. I just want normal pillows, that aren't thin and are supportive. Getting to sleep at night is awkward, because the pillows I have just feel thin and ****e, really. I always seem to have to replace pillows every few months, as they seem to totally flatten, regardless of how fantastic they seemed when bought. I don't 'plump up' the pillows, even though, according to The Mammy, that's the way to ensure you get ages out of your pillows, because they feel uneven to me.

Sooo, to cut a long story short, suggestions for proper pillows? I live near Cork city, but online's cool, too. Thanks!

We got lovely memory foam pillows from Penney's the other day for €10 each. They are thick enough to only use one but they have thicker ones for €20

+1 to the memory foam pillows. They're fab! I got mine in Dunnes about 3 or 4 months ago.

If you can hang out for an arnotts sale then you can get really great beware for a fraction of the price.

I used to buy cheap pillows (a la penneys and dunnes) and I just can't anymore. They're just not good enough for me as I seem to careen towards my 40's... :/

I got fab pillows in Ikea last year - not much use to you in Cork. I can't remember which ones they were, but they are still as good as new a year later and were not expensive at all

I can't use those memory foam ones at all - they hurt my neck! I second Ikea - very good selection between firm / soft / etc. I think my own pillows came from arnotts also.

I checked my Ikea pillows last night and they are the AXAG ones

Do you sleep with one or two pillows? Sometimes I prefer two thin pillows to one thick. I like goose feather ones.

I absolutely despise any orthopedic pillows so I might not be the best person to give advice.

They do great ones in Homestore and more you can get a variety of them... I would agree with Mammy on fluffing up the pillows... But even if you don't, the ones we got now from Homestore and the lasted for ages

The ones I have are ''cooling" ones from M&S. They're for people who like a nice cold pillow when they are sleeping. They were pretty expensive but I love my bed and spend a fortune on good bedlinen. They definitely used to work but I'm not sure they do anymore :)

I invested in a Latex Wrap one years ago. It has never flattened, is still as gloriously comfortable as when I first got it. It was recommended by a physio and as soon as I lay down on it I was in heaven.

I personally think it's worth investing in a good pillow. They pay for themselves.

I never knew that turning the pillow over was a thing until recently. I thought "wow, that's mad, why would anyone turn over their pillow".

Then I started to get night sweats. (I'm not sure why - bloods came back okay!). And now I'm a convert to flipping the pillow when hot. It makes such a difference.

Same, I've had one for years. Given to me by my mam when I moved out, I was so grateful for it because I couldn't have afforded one then but was accustomed to them from home.

A couple of years ago I thought I might like a change so I invested in a coolmax medic memory foam pillow (it was on sale half-price for €50!) but couldn't decide whether I preferred it or the dunlopillo so left one on either side of the bed and I can alternate between, love it!

Before anyone passes remark on having the same pillow for years: mam made an additional cover for the dunlopillo for me and the coolmax one has a removable cover so they're washed regularly at high temps and the core gets aired every few months.

Finally- cold pillow lovers should look at buying silk pillow cases. I got them in Homestore and More, they're so lovely! I never "got" the whole cold pillow thing until I bought them. I initially bought them because I was told they're good for your hair and skin and I think it's true. If I don't use them for a couple of days I definitely notice the difference in my face when I get up in the morning, it's more puffy and wrinkly looking plus my hair gets kind of matted looking whereas when using the silk pillow cases I could almost get away with not brushing it!

I have a Dunlopillo Super Comfort latex one, with the holes drilled through the foam for ventilation. I always use a good high thread count cotton pillow protector under the pillowcase. It's very expensive but they last more than ten years without ever losing their shape or support and the comfort is incredible. It's a massive difference between that and a fibre filled one. My mum's one is 15 years old and still feels perfect.

Its also much softer and comfier than memory foam ones, but still gives support without ever being hard. I use a down filled one on top for watching tv and reading but only sleep on the Dunlopillo.
