    What;s in the jar?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Tap it with a spoon or run a tap of hot water and plabe it under it for a couple of minutes

If its a food jar like jam etc tap the sides sharply with a spoon then try and open with a tea towel.

Rubber glove to improve the grip? Easiest way is to take a corkscrew or knife and pierce the jar lid though :pac:

Give the centre of the lid a thump on the corner of a press or the handle of something, then try it.

    I got this.
Run your tongue around the rim, just under the jar. The heat from your tongue will pop that badboy right off.

What kind of jar, what kind of lid, why is it stuck - crossthreaded, contents leaked, vacuum, rust, what?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,431 ✭✭✭MilesMorales1

Smash it open and pick the glass out duh.

Elbow grease and a tea towel is the best advice I can give...

How come this sounds dirty? Like giving a blow job or something.

Put a rubber band around sides of lid, fiddly if a thin lid, but works.

Turn the jar upside down, and knock it [the lid] repeatedly on the floor, gently but firmly and steadily, knock-knock-knock. The vibration shakes the screw-top looser and you should be able to twist it off afterwards.

Don't knock TOO hard or you might break the jar!

Puncture the lid with the jab of a fork.

Stab the lid with a corkscrew and it'll pop

Jimmy a butter knife under the tin lid and pull the side of the lid towards you, releasing/letting in air and thus destroying the "vacuum".

I tried a few, like hot water and rubber band and it's not working.

I'll let you know tomorrow. I give up for tonight.

Tap the bottom of the jar a few times then try again
    It's magic

Hold on everyone... we might be getting ahead of ourselves here.

OP, are you turning it the right way?

Looks like we have a jar expert people. Everyone stand back. :)

Jar lids stuck on is an air lock not a function of the lid being on too tight. Lift the side of the lid and let some air in the lid will unscrew with ease. Not unlike yore ma.

    Throw it at a wall

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,880 ✭✭✭Canis Lupus

    Do you even lift OP?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,319 ✭✭✭Absoluvely

The trick here is to slip it in the microwave for a few minutes.

Been trying to lift a lid all evening. Does that count?

Go take a load of acid, but not too much that you see the contents of the jar eating you* but enough that you see yourself eating the contents of the jar.

If it doesn't work the first time just rinse and repeat, soon you won't know what you were all worked up over to begin with.

*Assuming you don't want to be eaten by the contents.

    Seconded.

Look for a space on the screw part of the jar itself and slide a strong knife in there and twist it, to break the vacuum.

Make sure it's a strong knife. You might break the tip of the knife otherwise.

Ask a neighbour to open it for you.

Depending on the size of the jar you might be able to wedge it between a door and door frame on the hinge side. It gives good grip on the jar. Once the jar is jammed in the doorway then just twist the jar itself.....

I saw somebody do this before and while they were doing it a skeleton fell out of a cupboard and now they has a poltergeist in their house

Tie it to the front of your car and warn it if it doesn't open you'll drive at high speed into said wall.

Turn it the closey way to break the vacuum, then turn it the openy way and it should open. Other than that, bashing the top with a spoon or gripping with a rubber glove usually work for me.

Surely breaking the vacuum for one jar is a bit extreme

Those things cost a bomb in Argos these days
