Transferring from another provider

I've just purchased a domain from another provider, but the service has been dire. I want to make sure that the domain name doesn't roll over with the same provider next year, so I'd like to make sure I'm transferring it as soon as possible. How do I go about this? I'm using Shopify, so I don't require any hosting plans, but I may need a few additional domain names. Thanks.
