Juicing stories?

Started juicing last week, usually have a pint for breakfast of:

    2 apples
    Handful of berries
    Kale
    Cucumber
    Celery
    Chia seeds
    Water

Tastes horrendous, it's a sort of green group. Any ideas of how to liven it up? I was told some protein powder. Don't want to add fruit juice or more fruit because I'm trying to cut sugar out as much as possible.

Any stories of anyone who successfully managed a juice diet? Specifically just juicing fresh produce. Not herbalife or juice plus pyramid schemes please.

Long term did what benefits did you see?

    Thanks.

I found the celery to be the cause of my hatred of this. No matter how much you juice it its much better tasting without.

You do know by juicing your actually getting rid of the best part.. the fiber? It would have a lot of health benefits. I used it for breakfasts where i was going to do activities where i didn't want a full breakfast. Didn't really see many benefits from it on its own. Most people i know that do a "Juice Diet" just loose a pile of water weight and when they stop just put it all back on. So i wouldn't be relying on this solely. Also drink it through a straw if you can, gulping that acid and sugar is bad for your teeth.

Instead of just adding water add ice cubes, it will cool it and take some of the taste out.

I juice because it's a lot harder eat a full plate of veg for breakfast...with the juice I can just slam it down quickly. I wouldn't call what I'm doing a "diet"...I'm merely replacing the high calorie breakfast I used have with a pint of fresh veg. The rest of my diet is generally good, I also train 5x a week.

I'm just specifically wondering what sort of long term benefits people saw from just one shake a day. I wouldn't have the will power or desire to go all the way with a "juice diet".

Frozen kale and spinach. So handy. Usually a banana and some nuts with water too.

I love cucumber but hate it in smoothies. It overwhelms everything else. I don't like berry smoothies either.

My favourite is a small bit of avocado, handful of spinach, half a frozen banana and almond milk. I add protein to it too. Simple but nice!

I also use frozen kale and spinach from tesco, few frozen berries, cucumber, carrot, coconut oil , cinnamon, flaxseeds, fresh ginger, fresh mint and large scoop strawberry protein, I was surprised how good it tastes, sometimes add half stick of celery but wouldn't be keen on taste , celery in smooties makes them taste bitter.

I went with that this morning. The usual spinach, kale, flax seeds, avocado, banana, Apple and it wasn't awful. Definitely leaving out the cucumber is a good idea.

I'm off to get some protein tomorrow.

Are we talking about making juice or making smoothies? Everyone seems to be mixing and matching but they're very different.

Did it for a while lost some weight and felt better might try it again.

    From nutritionfacts.org http://nutritionfacts.org/
Smoothies may be an excellent way to increase one’s intake of fruits and vegetables. The blender may break down fruit and vegetable cell walls better than our teeth, and this helps release important phytonutrients. It’s critical to use whole fruits rather than extracted fruit juice as of the many health benefits of fiber and the phytonutrients may be attached to fiber. Berries are an especially good choice for a smoothie, because they may help control sugar uptake into the bloodstream and thus could potentially help prevent hypoglycemic dips. A teaspoon of amla powder added to a smoothie may significantly boost antioxidant content. To avoid feeling hungry after a smoothie, sip it slowly so that the mind and body register the intake and send appropriate fullness signals. Adding ground flax seeds to smoothies might help suppress appetite and lower cholesterol. Rinsing your mouth with water after drinking a sour smoothie may assist in reducing tooth enamel erosion. Dr. Greger recommends, among others, the Mayo Clinic’s green smoothie recipe from the Mayo Clinic
    http://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/recipes/green-smoothie/rcp-20049958

    Serves 4
    Ingredients

    1 banana
    1/2 cup strawberries
Juice of 1 lemon (about 4 tablespoons)
1/2 cup other berries such as blackberries or blueberries
2 ounces fresh raw baby spinach (about 2 cups)
1 tablespoon fresh mint or to taste
1 cup cold water or ice

I did a three day juice diet drinking vegetable juices only (one of the juices had apple in it). No solid food whatsoever!
I didn't enjoy it at all didn't feel good after it either actually my muscles started to cramp up on the last day and I was really tired with no energy! I lost a good few pounds but quickly put it back on again as soon as I started eating. Wouldn't do it again but would maybe incorporate a juice into a healthy diet now and again to get lots of fruit and veg in.
