    was looking at it earlier.

I went to the Bonkers website and I thought that the One Switch price per unit was more expensive than if you just went through bonkers site directly

We are high users, so even the E100 cash back did not make a difference to my calculations / savings but I am sure it would suit some users, just make sure you are comparing the same unit prices ie rural v urban, etc, but was disappointed as was expecting higher unit savings, but there are definitely better plans out there, just depends on your own usage / demand

The OBS isnt always the best.

I went onto Bonkers and Flogas are offering 20% for existing customers out of contract. I confirmed that with FG.

Thanks to that one big switch email. I checked on bonkers which was cheaper and switched to energia cause energia far far cheaper than OBS. Went to energia website and saw that ya get €50 back on first bill. Switched already. Electricity only. Thanks OBS

    Just a quick question

I'm with Airtricity for almost a year. My first bill was on 18.4.15, do I need to wait until 18.4.16 to switch to avoid penalties?

Did you go with Energia.. not sure you were right to do so!

Standing Charge is 158 as opposed to 131 with BG.
unit rate is 13.98 as opposed to 13.91 or for me as an existing customer 14.23
Cashback is 50 for energia and 100 for BG.
The cashback may offset the unit difference but the Standing Charge will be higher.

    Not necessarily.
You say your first bill was on the 18.4.15, but what period did that bill cover? Chances were the billing period was a couple of weeks before 18.4.15.
Anyways just phone them up and ask them if you are out of contract, it is the only way to know for definite.

Thats what you get for living in the "Schtix " :D

Looks like for me its cheaper to stay with FLogas and BGE and get the new deals. I'll try call Bord Gais to see if I can get the 12% new customer as opposed to the 10% existing customer. ...will report back.:D

EDIT: I called BGE and they told me I could get the 12% but not the 100 euro as I got the 100 when i signed up to a no contract deal last May.

My figures work out that I paid €557 this year for electricity including the 10% discount which is ongoing. If I sign up for 12 months @ 12% with no cashback its 646 for the next year.
Energia would work out at 548 for the next year.

I need to make another phone call before I switch. I've also got in touch with OBS to verify the situation with the cashback.:)

EDIT 2: OBS have verified the cashback for existing customers.

So its go with OBSand spend approx 557 or energia and spend 548 over the next year. BG also have tesco reward points when you pay your bill so approx €57 in points over the next year.

I need to call BGE again for that 12% + cashback!

Maybe I'm reading it wrong but it looks to me for new customers that its €140 cashback and 12% discount for Electricity Only users. That's what I entered and that's what I was offered.

Just emailed them an hour ago asking.

According to bonkers I could save €194 if I switched to two different providers for gas & electricity.

Emailed Energia to ask if they'd beat it but nothing back yet - will let you know.

Its €100 for electricity only. €140 for the bundle

Board Gais just rang me. I'm a dual customer and they gave me €250 onto my a/c and a continuing 5% off each unit rate. The best part is no contract. Hopefully I will be able to take advantage of the OBS offer as well.

    No
The €140 sign-up offer will be applied to your electricity account whenever you wish to apply it within 12 months from date of sign-up. The credit must be applied within 12 months of date of the customer’s sign-up or Bord Gáis Energy may withdraw the offer.

    No

    Cool
    Keep it for Xmas period

You'll need to calculate the price against what you now pay.
    BGE also give a cashback

You can decide when to use it. You can go online to activate the cash back and it will be used against your next bill.

This finishes this Friday for anyone who still wants to get it. Its open to existing BGE customers who are out of contract.

Looking at face value against Energia it was coming in at €8 more per year for me but when the Rewards points are applied its a slight saving and in addition to the occasional Tesco Clubcards points I can avail of the Tesco Points deals to buy my National Geographic at a discount :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,971 ✭✭✭_Whimsical_

For anyone who used last May 15s OBS the cashback expires in the next few weeks. I only just remembered mine now and redeemed it so if you've forgotten yours you've only a week or two to redeem it.

Do you have to stay with them for a year , I got the 100 cash back ,am with them about 10 months, and they say they will take back the 100 if I leave them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,177 ✭✭✭DANNY2014

AFAIK it's 12 months... So I'd imagine you will...

Yes it is a 12 month contract, they will probably also hit you with a €50 early termination fee.

If the only want the 100 back they're being very fair I think.
Consider if you'll save considerably more than 100 on the next deal you want to leave for, it might be unlikely.

Its actually not a retention contract, the t&c ,s do not have a penalty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 95 ✭✭bluedoor27

Just wondering how you go about getting the €100 cash back. Would bord gais have a record of it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,971 ✭✭✭_Whimsical_

Is anyone who availed of this One Big Switch offer actually getting the right tariff on their bill.
I am not I don't think. Good idea to check your bill. My unit price is 15.81 per unit.
