Have to fancy Blaklion to give VLR some stiff opposition.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,018 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

Clondaw Kaempfer is a chunky 33/1 with some bookies for the opener at Aintree and I am surprised. Winner of this race 2 years ago, it goes off carrying 3lbs less than on that occasion. Has the exact same good to soft conditions that it had that today, was given an albeit unsuccessful run just a few weeks ago in anticipation of today. Horse loves this track and I think it could very well do well at a nice price.

    13:40 Curious Carlos 22/1
Looks as if big field handicaps will suit this lad down to the ground, travels through his races like a good horse, absence is a concern but worth a go in an open race.

    14:15 Limini 7/4
Limini jumped and travelled beautifully at Cheltenham and getting weight I think she'll win. Looks like another superstar mare in the making.

    14:50 Blaklion 3/1
Tentative vote goes to Blaklion here, he's a classy animal but the RSA tends to leave its mark.

    15:25 Al Ferof w/o Vautour 6/4
Vautour will win but Al Ferof without at 6/4 looks a decent bet. Al Ferof has looked good this season under Skelton. Wasn't disgraced in either the King George or the Ryanair.

    4.05 Bishops Road 12/1
Probably high enough in the weights here but he can gain compensation for missing out on the National for a superb trainer in Kerry Lee.

    16:40 Tomngerry 14/1
Usually pays to go with an outsider here, this looks a very open contest so I'm going for the unbeaten Tomngerry to take the step up in class in his stride. A point winner, a dual bumper and a dual novice hurdle winner he's done everything asked of him so far. The further step up in trip should suit down to the ground and it will take a real staying performance to take this.

    5.15 Battleford 11/4
Ran an absolute blinder at big odds in the Cheltenham bumper, he's getting 4 pounds from Ballyandy today which should be enough to turn the tables on that rival. Ruby takes over and I think he'll be very hard horse to pass up the straight.

Does anyone fancy Out Sam today? He was Rossom's pick for Cheltenham but never really got involved? 10/1 today at the mo?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 159 ✭✭carman2011

cant understand the weakness behind limini, expected if to be evens by now as mullins rates it high and we saw his 2 mares did yesterday
but they cant seem to give it away, deffo a concern

also, would have major reservations about blacklion, the RSA is always a mega gruelling race, and a novice with only 3 weeks to recover, should run very flat imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 402 ✭✭BurtMacklin

I'm thinking Al Ferof, Battleford and Limini place only 2 places treble at just over 8/1.

    Limini & Vautour double.

I backed Ballyandy at Cheltenham but I'm going to switch Battleford today.

Has the Henderson horse the better form? i would say so. But ill be backing limini

Holy ****, this 9/4 on Limini could be huge. Was going backing Buveur Dair w/o earlier.

But I can't turn down that 9/4. She hasn't shown her hand yet.

Limini was very impressive at Cheltenham but she beat mares rated in 120's and 130's,falling over yourselves to back her is not the wisest move i'd suggest. Min's regarded as a better Novice hurdler than Limini and he wasn't far in front of Buveur Dair at Cheltenham and conditions here should improve BD.
Limini's having her first run against the boys in her first grade 1 hurdle, she should be no shorter than 3/1 in my opinion and that's taking into the Mullins/Ruby/Mullins with mares factor, of course she could win but i couldn't be backing her at less than 3/1.
Lot of horses in that race that could be anything, sit back and take notes for future could be the smart move.
